Bloustein's "Bigger" Time approach was a complete failure. We played any game with a national/regional pulse in Giants Stadium and our facilities lagged so far behind our peers with 23k seat old Rutgers stadium and limited on campus facilities until the Hale Center opened.
If we had truly invested in the program in the 70s when this decision was made perhaps Frank Burns would have had continued success into the 80s. From 1973-1980 he was 65-23-1 (0.739 winning percentage). He dominated the traditional rivals till the dropped off the schedule and competed with the big boys as best as he could. We were in much better shape than Syracuse and Temple and on even ground with B.College. We did lag behind PSU, Pitt and WVU ... if that support had happened we may have been invited into the Big Ten.
