Saquon Barkley and Flood's last-ditch recruiting efforts

I don't know maybe say "listen, I understand the pressure to play for your home state team, BUT..." then list the reasons he originally chose RU, and SELL HIM ON MY VISION, AND SELL HIM on why he originally chose RU.

Sorry, but those words, IMHO, were a flat-out pathetic attempt to get him back. "I LOVE YOU..."?? Really? How about "WE LOVE YOU at RUTGERS...." and go from there?

Come on Nuts......we have no idea what Flood said to Barkley on that last ditch effort. He could have said a whole lot more, maybe all the things you wrote above.....but the article only focused on that....or that is all Barkely shard with this writer.

I want Flood gone, but I will not rip him over this article one bit...and as someone else said, Flood was able to shut down Franklin's efforts to flip a few kids last year....so he must not be too bad in keeping recruits from PSU.

Fludd could've done alot of things to give Barkley a tangible reason to believe that both he and Rutgers would be successful, instead all he could come up with is, 'I skipped practice to come tell you that I love you'.

Sell the offense, sell the team, sell the education, sell the location, sell past RB success...at crunch time if all you can come up with is 'I love you' then you got nothing. Many guys have uttered those words while watching her runoff with the other guy, lol.
This is one of the more idiotic posts I've read on here.

You really don't know everything that was said and everything was done. You're grasping and piling on.

If Flood was recruiting well and winning the article would've meant very little and probably would've never been written. The person that wrote that article is piling on, not the fans. The fans are simply frustrated. As they say, it is what it is.

This is a three-part series and is meant to inform and entertain the PSU faithful by telling Barkley's story. It's not about RU.

One thing is clear: between secret meetings with an academic advisor to keep one kid from failing a class he had to show up for to pass and skipping a practice to drive out to Allentown to recruit this kid, Flood goes to great lengths to build his team. No matter what happens to him and the way he has gone about recruitment and retention, give him an A for effort.

I wouldn't read too much in the "I love you" comment. Maybe it was about his playing ability and that he has been under recruited at the time. Maybe he was showing him some recruiting "love". And take a look at the headline. "Lure" Barkley? Poor choice of words by this paper. So take some of this story with the ol' grain o'salt.

And then there's this: "Penn State was especially intriguing to Barkley because of new coach James Franklin's energy and the school's proximity to Allentown." Proximity? Rutgers is about 70 miles from Allentown. Penn State is twice as far at 160 miles away.

I agree, the article wasn't written for us and the writer clearly used the opportunity to 'pile on' Flood. I'm not into calling names but if anybody came to the conclusion that when Fludd found out that Barkley was thinking about decommiting he jumped in the car, drove to PA, and said, 'come to Rutgers because I love you', is well, not very smart. I'm sure he did everything he could to keep the kid on board, the fact that he couldn't is what people are bemoaning. Just like he can't keep Jersey players home. Over the years Fludd has proven to be a less than average recruiter. This article wasn't ground breaking news, it took a jab at what we already knew.

Unfortunately, it can and probably will. We're seeing some of the worst aspects of human nature in action right here in our forum lately.
There is alot more going on in the world right now besides bitching about a soon to be fired coach on a message board, just saying.

The Mods should consider a moratorium on posting....let everybody think about the type of board they really want.....lol

Bullshit. Being frustrated doesn't justify the kind of self-absorbed, mean-spirited, nonstop hate that's being piled on Flood.

I've been frustrated since the guy was hired. Never wanted him as head coach, didn't even want him as an assistant coach of Schiano's. Nobody here has any special claim to frustration over any other person. Yet somehow, many of us are actually able to restrain ourselves from ceaselessly bashing the guy.

Adults have a choice in how they want to conduct themselves, what they say, and how they say it. Allowing one's frustrations to dictate one's behavior is the sort of thing we expect from 3 year-olds; not adults. There's no justification for repeatedly putting the guy down at this point except plain old meanness.

But hey, it's a free country. People should do what they want. Just don't expect reasonable-minded adults to buy into any lame rationalizations for why some people are behaving like spoiled children that are incapable of containing their frustrations and acting with restraint and class.

There are lots of atrocities being committed in North Africa tonight. So we should ignore the lynch-mob mentality pervading our forum? Is that your rationalization?

Thankfully you have been appointed as the one guy to tell everyone else how to vent their frustration. Clearly, how you express frustration is the only way to express frustration. You said yourself that no one here has any special claim to frustration, yet you are openly complaining that people are expressing their frustration in their own way.

I can't wait until we get rid of Fludd and start talking about real sh!t like winning games, positive recruiting, and maybe, just maybe beating Penn State.

I love you son

Bet the "I love you, Saquan" or was it, "Saquan, I love you" ...is part of his pitch around f.a.m.i.l.y. To a man, the kids love playing for Flood. AD had some incredibly positive things to say about the vibe around the program. So, that's what he sells and apparently, gets right to the point.

He just can't compete at this level. I hope he gets a good gig in a lower conference where he can. And he learns that when he has a young, developing team to be sure and get the back up QB in there instead of sticking his giant middle finger up at the 50,000 people spending three hours in a car and a chunk of change, coming to see the team play. And getting them all so angry they type vitriolic, hateful things about you on the team's message board until you go away. What a dope.

The lack of class in this thread is appalling. Getting a pound of flesh is not enough for some people. We have some of the same folks wetting their pants over Herman at Houston who kisses his offensive linemen because he loves them. How many posts have we seen in that thread mocking this "sad" behavior. Not a single one. Who coined the "LOVE" thing at Rutgers---the hero and savior of many-Greg Schiano. What a bunch of hypocrites.

Overlooked in the article:
"Coach Flood was great, and I really enjoyed that recruiting process with him," Gilbert said.

I haven't told anybody how to vent their frustration. I just pointed out that not being able to handle frustration without striking out in anger is something we commonly associate with little children. Nice try at deflection, though.

Unfortunately for you, deflection and rationalization won't change that (a) lynch mobs are one of the uglier aspects of human nature, (b) being part of a lynch mob is never a good thing and (c) being frustrated about a football coach's performance is never going to be a valid reason to form a lynch mob.

Flood's Big Ten in-conference record is all that anybody needs to highlight in order to make the point that he isn't getting the job done. Nothing more needs to be said. Everything else is just piling on. Bringing up things like how he shakes hands w/the opposing coach after a loss or attacking the few remaining forum members who still like the coach just because we don't share their opinion, this is lynch-mob behavior.

What strikes me most about that article is that you have a mefia outlet purposefully writing something to disparage the rival and make the hometown team look good. I have no idea what that feels like.
EXACTLY! THAT's the story here.

He probably said "I (would) Love You (to come to Rutgers)...but their Anti Politi version of a writer took out those words to embarrass Rutgers. (hey, one could hope right?) [eyeroll]

Or attacking those that don't join the lynch mob or those that point out a positive one in a while. There are very few vocal remaining supporters of Coach Flood. But in the bloodlust of the lynch mob, they can't differentiate those that want things to quietly play out and Flood supporters. Really sad human behavior. Some of you should hope that your fellow humans do not kick you when you are down. I'm sure this post will be roundly mocked. Have at it.

I wouldn't use AD as your example. He lacks toughness and the elevator doesn't go all the way to the top with him.

How about the four years of abuse received by everyone who said anything remotely negative about Flood? FOUR YEARS!!!

Let's see, who deserves abuse - people who offered an opinion and were proven RIGHT .... OR ..... the man who caused harm and embarrassment to our beloved school?

Five years from now, these same people bashing Flood will still be LOYAL SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF RUTGERS. Flood on the other would have transferred his loyalty to whoever is giving him his paycheck. Yet, people choose to give their allegiance with Flood. I always wondered with Flood defenders, are you loyal to Rutgers or to Flood? Unreal.

The lies, the deceit, the propaganda, the excuses, the unethical behaviors ........ I personally, hate everything this incompetent man stands for.As far as I'm concerned, Flood, for what he did to Rutgers, deserves all the abuse he is getting ... and more.

Spot on.

Bottom line: If Saban or Meyer does that to Barkley, they would sway him in 2 seconds. Flood can't do that, and then gets run over by him in his first game against us. How embarassing and frustrating to see TTFP do what they loved doing back in the 80s and 90s, find guys that we like and then swoop in and take them for themselves.

Rutgers is once again a safety school.

You hate everything he stands for? ROFL No worries, you're not the only drama queen here.

I really like the "but they started it" argument for why a lynch-mob is a good thing. That's not acting like a three year old at all, noooooo. LOL

And thanks for so clearly illustrating my point about lynch mobs. Apparently, caught up in the depths of your deep emotional hatred for Flood and everything he stands for, you are incapable of distinguishing between people that want Flood as the coach and people who think we shouldn't behave like a lynch mob. Nothing like letting your hatred for a football coach incapacitate you.

Let's simplify ..........

When people were "lynched" for saying anything negative about Flood, did you come to their rescue and denounced the "mob lynching" then?

By the way, despite what you hear, there is no guarantee that Flood is out the door. The forces that put out the four years of Kyle propaganda are working feverishly to keep him here still. So, this isn't a case of "don't kick a guy in the arse on his way out" and feel sorry for him kinda deals. It won't shock me one bit if Flood is retained and his supporters, feeling vindicated reverses the bashing the other way. When that happens, I wonder, will you be here to denounce the "meanness" then as acting like 3 year olds?

You've got issues. F.A.M.I.L.Y.

Sadly, SB made the right choice for him. He is now the featured back at his own state's university.

At Rutgers, he would either be part of the "rotation" or moved to CB given our depth problems there. We still have PJ, Goodwin, and a full pipeline of young talented Running Backs.

At state penn, he is the star. Not sure he would be at Rutgers. At least not until someone on the staff realizes that this kid is really good. And then it would be a struggle to keep all of the young backs that we already have in the program.

Do you really think all he said was "I love you" and then left? Do you think the high school coach is maybe just paraphrasing and a lot more was said? I mean come on guys, get real. He didn't just drive out there, say "I love you" and then left. We all want Flood gone, but sometimes you guys gotta check your hatred at the door. Flood lost the recruiting battle. But to make it seem like all he did was say "I love you...." come on guys let's be a bit more realistic here.

The more you read about Flood, the more pathetic he becomes.
Have to disagree on this point. I'm in no way a Flood supporter but give him his props for discovering a prospect before anyone else did, not stooping to negative recruiting and hanging in to the very end. Recruiting is sales, no one lands 100% of the prospects you target. Saban and Meyer don't land everyone they go after and I'm sure HS coaches can give us inside stories where they might come across as "pathetic." You can hammer him on other areas and maybe not having what it takes to close blue chip recruits but have to give him credit for stepping up to the plate and taking his cuts.
