Good article, interviewing his OC in high school, who is now director of high school relations at Central Michigan--he indicates that Gio was close to getting a Michigan offer and Eastern Michigan and other MAC schools were showing interest. Gio has relatives in the NJ area, and once he got the offer, he was set on coming to Rutgers.

Anyway, article is a good read, even if you hate NJ.com.

Good article, thanks for sharing. I'm sure his parents are proud of him!

Nice article. Since he has experience at receiver, I can see Mehringer drawing up a play to take advantage of that.

Allen and Laviano have "played" WR too. Line all three up in the backfield. One throws a screen pass to another, and then throw downfield. Likely will wind up being called for ineligible receiver downfield, but hey, it's worth a shot.

That would be an inventive and unexpected play that could catch a defense off guard. We must not do that. Only call for runs straight up the middle.

You've heard of the Statue of Liberty trick play. You can all thank me when they call in the Knight Shift trick play.
Putting my bid in to be OC next year. . . . .

Gonna be some sweet sounds comin' down from the stands if that one works.

We should try to sign the young man in the shirt and tie. Anyone know anything about him?

Didn't Gio end up being 2nd team all-state QB in Michigan that year, ahead of the guy who de-committed from RU and went to Iowa? What ever happened to that guy, anyway? I don't recall hearing his name during the week in the run up to the RU-Iowa game.

This is one of the more interesting storylines to develop at Rutgers this year. Everyone is waiting to hand the keys to Jonathan Lewis next year, and Oden looks like he could also develop into something, but Gio has a chance now to make the decision a little harder for the coaches next year. I hope he does; I can always get behind an unheralded kid who comes in and makes things happen, defying expectations.

Given the offense Rutgers is trying to run, he seems like he is clearly the best option you have, at least until Oden matures a bit. The pressure is off - the team is clearly headed nowhere this year (I don't think this is speaking out of school, is it?) - so the kid has kind of a gift-wrapped opportunity to put himself in the conversation for the future.

Why are we not trying Oden at WR for a few plays? Jet sweep with Oden has a run pass option....why not?

Another day, another thread from the OP attention whore. It wouldn't bother me as much but he kills rutgersal for his rare, wacky posts. And he can't go a day without starting a new thread.

Said something similar earlier. Try to get the talent you have on the field. Oden has talent, he can make plays, even if it is not from the QB position.

No, it will be an illegal shift.

......or a false start and we don't even get the play off.

He was standing on the sidelines with a clipboard. He's the backup.
