Setting up for the Virginia Tech (VT) game

I wanted to bring this thread back to the top for further discussion in light of VT's loss to Vandy.

Conversely, VT opens with 3 straight games, 1 against Vanderbilt, a weak team that is still a part of a P5 conference, and 2 against G5 teams, Marshall and Old Dominion. And they lost to Marshall last year 24-17. In addition, both those G5 teams were 6-6 during the regular season, so they aren't bottom of the barrel teams. They'll have to play to win without holding back, at least in the first half of all of those games. So they'll come in with the strain of playing 3 straight games, and we will have tape from all 3 of those games to help us scheme against them.

I watched a bit of the game, pressure on Drones is going to be huge. And they do NOT have gimmes coming against Old Dominion and Marshall, they absolutely have to play hard and crush these 2 teams.

I watched a decent part of the game. I’m not sure what type of injury Drones has, I thought it was leg cramps, he was in and out of the game late. The Vandy dual threat QB gave VT a lot of problems. He ran the ball well and kind of hammed & egged it. RU will need to be balanced offensively. I don’t put that much emphasis on the 1st game of the college season, it is often misleading.

7/13 for 54 yds and 6 rushes for 14 yards in the first half. OMG, we are doomed.

And he took some hard hits and appears to be injured. It’s not their offense I’m worried about.

Have you watched any of the game? Their D is legit and the score itself doesn’t do justice to how solid they’ve looked. OSU has had to fight for every yard. Holding them to the FG after throwing the pick was impressive as was forcing OSU to turn it over on downs and punt twice. Definitely not a pushover D.

Taylor hammed and egged?

OSU seems to start slow the last few years. I would not draw any conclusions from the first half on their D.

Akron’s D was supposed to be good coming into the season. OSU may have started slow, and eventually broke Akron down because their offense couldn’t stay on the field but their tackling and coverage looks very solid.

That's a thread violation for posting that without the proper graphic:

This should present opportunities for Athan on read option plays and if he needs to scramble. There may be some designed runs called for him as well based on how Vandy's QB caused them so much trouble today.

Has anyone who is going to the VT game looked into parking for the game? I looked around & did not find much available.

I noticed VT plays Miami 6 days (Friday) after the Rutgers game. That is a huge game for VT obviously.

Gee, I hope they don't look past lowly old Rutgers as they eagerly await the chance to upset Miami a mere 6 days later. That would be a real shame.

Completely different type of runner. Vandy qb elusive and shifty. AK isn’t.

You're jumping to conclusions, I said "SHOULD PRESENT OPPORTUNITIES" not "RUSH 26 TIMES LIKE THE VANDY QB"...lol.

Athan will have around 5-8 rush plays each game whether they are designed runs, off the read option or QB scrambles.

VT's run defense needs some serious fixing over the next two weeks before RU visits. If it's similar to Vandy, all the RBs and Athan will feast on them.

They are not crushing ODU.
Might be closer than many think.
