I don't think we have enough information to form a valid theory on why the pass play selection has been what is has been. I mean, we can form lots of theories, but only from very limited data. So, IMO, our theories aren't worth much.
We may, however, have enough information to theorize why play calling, in general, has been conservative. Part of that is having a defensive-minded coach, which I'm okay with. Part of that is having an OL who haven't played games with each other before this season. And part of it is having a D that has demonstrated it can hold the other teams to a very low score. Under those conditions, why risk putting the ball in the air a ton when we can win without that risk?
We'll know more after Saturday. And even more after OSU, whom we will almost certainly fall behind on in the score and need to air things out to try to keep up, assuming we can actually execute any plays at all against OSU.
Let's see what happens. Or, you know, we could just beat up on the coach endlessly for some reason. 😃
