So how do we BEAT PSU??

Your team has been blown out by UM, OSU and MSU by a combined score of over 180 - 0.

I doubt this squad has the pieces in place to defeat PSU, even at home with a amped-up night game crowd.

Unfortunately for RU, the window for beating Penn State passed in 2014 when you actually had a decent shot.

However, given the current injury bug which has decimated PSU's O-line I don't think it will be a blow out unless Ash has completely lost the team.

Good luck.

Passive aggressive won't hurt anyone hear BTW.

I'll bet you would take a close game Saturday instead of losing to Pitt

I think we need to do three things:

1 - Run the ball

This will be much easier if Gio's hamstring is closer to 100% than it has been. If we can't run the ball and control the clock, we're toast because our defense has been on the field too long this season, and is susceptible to breaking down

2 - Blitz, Blitz, Blitz!!

What do we have to lose? throw everything and the kitchen sink. Hopefully environment will be loud and raucous, and aid our defense. Environment was fantastic two years ago, and i hope it is replicated. Yes we are taking the risk of PSUs wide receivers going off, and if blacknall beats us, so be it. But thats better than sitting back and watching Barkley run over our defense, like last year.

3 - Connect on a few shots downfield.

Gio's got the arm to do this, and connected on a 37 yard TD pass in the Minnesota game. OL has been playing better as of late, and last game allowed zero sacks. If we can get the passing game going, it'll spur the running game.

4 - Avoid Turnovers

We're not good enough to win if we lose the turnover battle.

There hasn't been one complete 60 minute good game all season long. I think we're due.
Uplifting post. Are you going to be hosting Cruising Route 66 at your tailgate? If so, I might drop by to extend my "respects".

Stack the box to stop Barkley. The QB for Penn State has done well when he's had a solid running game. Do like Indiana and take away the run game with a lot of run blitzes. Force this kid to win it by throwing which isn't his strength. Create turnovers like in the IU game and score off of it. Reduce the 3 and out series.
You know more about football than I do (me being a soccer guy). So to me this all sounds good. I'm unconvinced, however, that our players can execute it. You can educate me some here I think.

My biggest concern is that our LBs seem very, very inexperienced. That's kind of a macro-observation because I don't know the terminology to explain my perception very well. But it just seems like our LBs are still at the phase where they are slow to recognize and respond to the cues given by the offense just after the snap. It's one of the reasons I feel like our run defense has suffered so much this season.

And I worry that, with such inexperience among our LBs, that run and/or pass blitzing too much leaves us too exposed to big plays if we miss. Seems like our secondary has their hands full just covering receivers. So with the LBs still trying to learn the game and the DBs often being required to play right on the edge of their ability, it's hard to blitz with any frequency.

Again, I'm not being argumentative here - I can't really argue because, like I said, I'm only an avid college football fan and don't know the detail-level terminology, or have any detailed knowledge of schemes and tactics and so forth. I'm just sort of putting out my lay-person's view and hoping to learn something.

Pray. Not a religious person here, but devine intervention is the only way that we win this one.

An RU win is just about guaranteed.
The " Key" to that win is make sure Al don't drive to the game
and a RU friendly valet made sure he couldn't.

No chance in football this season.

But, woman's soccer beat Pen St a few weeks ago.

That's true, but we have six players who haven't even been at Penn State this semester. They are with the U-20 national team, preparing for the U-20 World Cup. I'd say we did well just to get to the NCAA tournament this year.
