Assuming the sky doesn't totally fall on this program by then, we are truly in a defining moment for this season. PSU is not a good team and will most likely lose a lot of games this season. But, the same can probably be said for Rutgers. My original optimism is pretty drained right now and we will be facing a team that will be trying to emulate what WSU did to our D.
Although many say that PSU's offensive line is bad, our defensive line looked terrible last Saturday and I don't know if we can get after Hackenburg like Temple did. Meanwhile, they do not have to worry about Caroo who was pretty much in double coverage by WSU.

We really need a win and I'm not even sure how the team is dealing with all the crap swirling around it. I wonder if there is a serious rift going on about the QB or something else. Do they even believe in their coaches?
There is absolutely no way they are going to kick the ball anywhere near Grant. Without his ability to do what he does, our ability to score is really compromised.

And...this is only Tuesday!!!

Not happening.....as a Rutgers & PSU alumni; I just do not see any Rutgers team walking into 100+ thousand 8pm game on the road and pulling out a win. I will predict a 42-14 lose for Rutgers. Arguably 3 out of our top 5 guys out.....

we're not scoring 42 points on anybody. we're not Wazzou

This sounds like my buddy CELL BLOCK R. The entire program rests on this one game!!!!!

Hahahahah.

If I read my Rutgers history correctly, (and I do) we are going to get our asses kicked at TTFP. It's just the way Rutgers Football is.

The minute Temple manhandled them I felt this way. Sent a text to my group that simply said "Well there's the "kiss of death."" Now, yeah, this really has that "oh boy" feeling all over it for me as a long-time fan.

This will be the game where everything clicks for Penn State and they drop 50 on us and don't allow a sack.

At that point I will beg the mods to ban me so that I won't catch wind of the sh!tstorm that will hit this site.

Or Rutgers somehow pulls it together long enough to win and stabilized the program for at least a week.

we shall see...

I don't really even care about the game right now. I've looked forward to this game for a year but right now I don't care about football. This is more than football.

If Penn State score 42 points I'll shit in my wallet and walk back to Harrisburg...happily, of course

I think your wallet is safe.

if we beat them handily, it won't be a high scoring affair. it'll be like 27-10

Hack won't be slinging it around like Wazzou.

That's just crazy talk...42 points for PSU...pssssh

Our two best players are out.

Basically 5 or 6 projected preseason starters, not in the lineup due to injury, suspension or dismissal.

Can't see this game being close, and it's a darn shame.

What???? This is PSU we're talking about. You know, the team that lost to Temple and was up 13-7 against Buffalo in the 4th Q? What the hell are you talking about?

We'll see on Saturday night who's right in their assumptions.

I hope I'm wrong of course, but
I'm sure I'll be right...and if we lose, we lose a close one. I will certainly eat crow if we lose big but, like I said, that ain't happening. Come on man, be a fan - I just don't understand stating that "this won't be close"...PSU isn't good and maybe we aren't that great either, but we played a Leach offense and we did just about everything we could to give them the game (penalties, Rossi's stupidity, Laviano's turnovers, etc)....we are a good team even without Carroo and Hamilton.

Even with Carroo out, I'd have a much better feeling if Rettig was the starter last game and if the defense should some manhood in that last WSU drive and won the game.

Hack is going to pick us apart unfortunately and they do have a good stable of WRs with speed.

I also don't trust Laviano against their tough defense and fierce DL.

Agree with you on Rettig, but I blame Rossi most of all for the Defense's shortcomings. We were at a schematic disadvantage with Rossi not making any adjustments.
Hack MIGHT pick us apart IF Rossi proves to have the intellect of a monkey and sticks with 3 or 4 man rushes. Hack is a terrible QB with any bit of pressure and really has not shown himself to be a very accurate passer regardless...don't buy the hype. I trust Laviano or Rettig to score against PSU.
We will win...

The season rides on this game. Win and we still have a chance at a bowl. Lose and we are looking at 3-4 wins.

lose and the bowl dream is gone barring a stunning upset somewhere

win and Flood has a chance to keep his head above water and the fanbase feeling better

All aspects on and off the field favor Penn State for this game:

1.100,000 fans rooting for PSU
2.Rutgers injuries and discipline issues.
3.Loss of Carroo and Hamilton
4.PSU has the better quarterback and Rutgers has no pass rush
5.PSU defensive line stopped Rutgers offense last season
6.PSU wants to roll up the score to maintain recruiting advantage in NJ

whoever wins this game is going to be able to say "man, we suck and we still beat you" to the other team.

I wouldny say that, but its more important than others.

1. Its winnable - MSU, OSU, probably Wisconsin, maybe even Nebraska nad Michigan by the time we get to them arent.
1a. Given the number of games that likely to be out of reach, we probably need to win every winnable game to get to a bowl.
2. PSU is a regional rival.
2a. Who we recruit against
2b. And they too are going to need every win they can get.

So basically win and we give PSU a good shove towards missing a bowl and give ourselves a push towards making one. And I think making one is going to be the difference between Flood being here and not - which is about a defining for the program as you can get.

I believe a lot depends on how the team responds to the WSU game and its aftermath. If the team assumes an us against the world mentality and we give them a heavy dose of James, Hicks and Martin and somehow figure out how to pressure their QB, we stand a good chance.

If Rossi has had an epiphany and figured out how to do that pressuring,to which you referred, then, yes,we have a good chance to win.It is really on our D.We will see.on Saturdee.
