Sometimes a loss is a “win”

We’re going to know in the first 10 minutes Tuesday against notre dame if this game created any positive or not
more worried because Notre Dame lost to elon and shrewsbury is a good coach. We could come out and blow the doors off of them or not. I am also worried about this team getting that big lead and then having to hold off the opponent...i though we would get that scenario today.

It’s good to be humbled and get a gut check on the road. Got punched in the mouth early and often. They didn’t fold, that’s impressive. These guys will learn. Ace had the chance, but freshman mistake. Should have got it to Dylan for game winner.

We will get it back somewhere else, you’ll see.
There is no place on this board for this type of rational thinking.

“Sometimes a loss is a win” could be, we will know this week if that’s true. We have shown some good offense, good defense, very good assist ratios, being capable of taking care of the ball, problem being we haven’t managed to put all the pieces together at one time for 40 minutes. Consistency is a big opportunity and when and if we get there we will be a good team.

Based on the empirical evidence so far (exclude the St Johns game, we played well against them in last year’s exhibition too) we will likely go 0-3 in Vegas. Anyone thinking otherwise hasn’t been paying attention. Ace and Dylan will still get their ~20 a game each night.

Hopefully that will be the effect of this debacle, but it is by far not a certainty. There is so much to fix with this team right now. RU can’t rebound even against low -major programs and can’t defend against them either. Hopefully, this helps put the end to me-ball and leads to team ball.

I love proof, i never believe a thing until i see it
A valid point, this loss is hopefully a positive and a catalyst for better things but we certainly don’t know if it is. It definitely puts a different spin on the rest of the week in Vegas. Have to likely win 2 out of 3 in Vegas, otherwise it’s a 1-3 week, figured they would at least go 2-2.

We are playing 8-9 new players and our top 3 scorers are freshmen. Today was a mess but we are not nearly the team we will be in Feb/March. Granted, it could look much worse but I suspect that we will be a very dangerous team the last couple months of the season. In the interim, we’ll be riding a roller coaster most nights

I agree. I’m not that disappointed that they lost this game. If they somehow came back and won, then their confidence would’ve been higher when in a game where you force 22 turnovers, should be a definite win, not a down to the wire loss.

It’ll leave them with a chip on their shoulder going into the Las Vegas tourney. The team needed to be humbled and it’s better for it to happen now as opposed to in Vegas.
Yes, as long as we show up and play solidly from the opening tip and sustain it to a victory.

All I know is this: if a guy goes 0 for 10 in his first ten ABs in the majors he has PROVEN he is not a major leaguer. Send that ****er straight back to AA where he belongs.
There’s nuance and context to this response.
You can go 0 for 10 and play great defense.
You can go 0 for 10 with obvious great swings.
You can go 0-10 with 4 o 5 bullets hit right at the defense.
Or you can have the bat knocked out of your hands and be over matched.

I don’t think this team will ever play Pike D or rebound against high level competition, and it won’t be from lack of effort.

I’ve Been obviously wrong many times on this board Flux….😊

This assumes the two top-5 picks stay bought in and keep grinding and working as they get closer to their massive pay day. If we are hovering around .500, and need full buy in for the last 2 months of the season, are those guys going to do that, or will they be checked out?

They got it to one of their stars who was in a position to take a tough shot but one he is able to make given his ability to shoot from deep and elevate. Instead he literally threw it away.

As for the loss being a learning experience that is to be seen. Pikiel is a good coach and he brought in the best players he could to complement Ace and Dylan. To be successful this team needs Ace and Dylan to both play beyond their years. Hopefully they can and hopefully they can bring greater intensity on defense and rebounding. Sadly so far they haven’t shown the intensity they need to be a winning team. Losing is the end result. As the saying goes, you are what your record says you are.

You very well might be right. What I want to push back on is the idea that they’ve PROVEN it. I am definitely concerned about this team (and that was true before the most recent loss which I don’t think was honestly that much of a surprise). But, for better or worse (and with one notable exception) Pike’s teams have all improved a lot from what they looked like in the early season.

You are 100% correct…you’re 1-1 I’m 0-1.
I couldn’t have used a worse choice of words.
This team hasn’t proved anything yet, with the exception Harper would be scary good on a team with all the pieces

Biggest issue with the last play is Dylan needed to have the ball in his hands coming up the court, gives you way more options, not sure why Ace brought the ball up. Also Ace has made a number of those cross court lobs that almost insure a turnover in the college game.

Season is 30+ games. Thru 1st 5 games they are playing like a team that is trending towards 14-17 or worse. Plenty of time, but looking bleak right now.
There he goes.No question we will have a good season now. Many new pieces that will
come together .Very surprised if Dylan and Ace no not come to dominate as time goes on

It is a fact that we are trending and playing like a team that goes 14-17 when you look at the metrics. That is not a prediction. I stated the season is 30+ games to show we have a lot of basketball to be played and turn 14-17 to playing like a 22-11 team.

tonight is going to tell ALOT. Its the first REAL competion and yes I dont care if I am disrespecting a Kennessaw State that was 12-16 last season. It will be the first REAL defense we will play. On the other hand, its also probably the FIRST game that Ace and Dylan will actually be dialed in with the bright lights and nba scouts watching closely.

I actually looking at a different angle....it is our 1st non circle game. 1st 5 games our opponents all had the game circled on the schedule when it came out. Teams may have wanted it more than us and it shows with loose balls and rebounds.

Notre Dame is NOT circling this game on their schedule.

This combined with Pike having their ear after the embarrassment I expect us to rebound and win our share of 50/50s.

I will not look at this game in a binary way of a win or loss. I know shooting is such a big part of these games. I will be looking at the compete level and I will be worried if we are going through the motions again tonight.

Having Breakfast here in Vegas - feeling optimistic from 2nd half the other day..
Dylan takes over. RU goes up 15+, but ND will make it closer at end.. RU by 7
Ace needs to be cutting to basket, dunk feeds from Dylan after drawing double teams from D..
Martini & Hayes hitting from outside essential
