The new practice facility combined with the now outstanding living environment on Livingston puts us back in the game. Getting that facility built is priority #1,#2, and #3. The hardest part is done in that we have the right direction.

If Nova can do it, we can too!

Way over the top as usual Al. Lets try for making the Dance as an every year occurrence before thinking a run to the NC game is even possible.

Nova has been relevant in hoops since the 60s with the Jim Washington and Wallyi (sp?) Jones teams, among others. Three final fours (one vacated per the Howard Porter scandal), two championships, many, many great players. I'd be happy if we ever got to St. Joe's level.

Not scientific....every decade 2-3 teams emerge from nowhere and become a legitimate basketball program. If we have the right coach it isn't inconceivable. There were legitimtely 40 teams this year in the tournament that probably had a chance. This includes Seton hall.

We now have a chance. We are back in the game. We have had no chance the past three years

The only thing that Nova has that we don't are alumni who donate enough to ensure basketball success. If we had competitive facilities, we'd have had our share of success too. The best basketball talent is in our backyard and it's our own fault for failing to mine it.

Let's donate to make it happen rather than waiting for someone else and hoping for the best. Can I count on you?

How does our practice facility, which will not be completed for 3 years at the earliest, compare to our peers?
How does the "living environment" on Livingston compare to our peers?

Do your answers to those questions support the conclusion that we will be in a position to compete in the Big Ten conference, let alone win an NCAA tournament?

Bonus Question: Considering the fact that funding has not even been committed to the new practice facility, and there is no timeline for a construction begin date explain your conclusion that the "hardest part is done."

The sad reality is that even with a new coaching staff and the new proposed facility, we will be far behind any school who is a national contender, so much so that it is impossible to put any kind of timeline on the turnaround of RU hoops. Our proposed improvements do not even move the needle on a national recruiting scale.

Given our current position, if anything, we are "striving for competence," as opposed to striving for excellence.

Pikiell announced a couple of weeks ago that they would break ground on the facility this summer. You thinks its going to take 3 years to build? Its a parking deck with a facility on top. Cant take more than a year or 18 months to build.

They had said it was a 2 year build. So we wil not use the facility in this coming basketball season, or the next one. I guess technically you got me, although I also will believe it when I see it as far as beginning construction. This summer would be great.

IMO, the practice facility will be competitive with what Villanova, Syracuse, and UConn have, and thats good enough to compete on the highest level. pictures of their facilities are freely available on the internet, and i would describe them as competent. The living facilities on Livingston are superior to what Villanova, Syracuse, and UConn have, as i've been to the living facilities in all three places.

as for your bonus question, we've already secured $25 million in state credits. I've donated what I can, and I know a lot of others who have done the same. Where are we at? I have no idea, but from what i've heard, it seems that progress is being made, so i'm hopeful. I sense the enthusiasm is greater than its ever been. The plan is in place, the direction is in place. Now its time to execute and get the thing built. Once the improvements are in place, they WILL move the needle.

I would just like to have some kids who can shoot the ball.

playing in the F4 is possible, winning is usually reserved for a select few.

1967-2016 (49 years)

20 different teams have won a title.

21 in 50 years if you go back one year farther to the Texas Western championship.

I get what you are saying but in Rutgers case putting the ball in the basket is required. There have more than enough bricks shot .
First of all, basketball is the one sport where we can get better over night, no question and even more so in our case. You can either win by getting kids who don't mind winning 50-45 and buy in accordingly, but not popular anymore. Or upgrade the talent level to a point where you still have a chance every time you walk onto the court. I'd be happy to see us execute the way the mid-majors play and they don't have trouble recruiting kids that can THINK and SHOOT ! Hopefully with the new coaching staff we'll put a good product on display and play with a little confidence. We don't need McDonald' s All-Americans to be able to compete, there are enough Jersey kids available to make us better. We do have one advantage I can see right away. Whoever we get probably will be here for 4 years and THEN maybe NBA or elsewhere. If we could make any kind of post season tournament until the program stabilizes, that would be great. Likes take it one day at a time !!!

A good short term goal would be to finish in the top half of the Big 10. If RU could do that then chances are they would be in line for a NCAA bid with at least being on the bubble. That is a realistic goal that could be achieved in as little as two to three years. (two would be very optimistic)

Definitely attainable with the right players and better coaching. Maybe some of the guys who were hurt can be better than we give them credit for at this stage. Once the "ships" equalize the program will move forward. Maybe the new staff can move the timetable up a bit. Some patience required !!!

Orange fan, did you think your women would make Final Four even 4 years ago?
