Spencer never hit the weights ever

Yet he is best in college basketball. What a bunch of nonsense we heard all year how Gavin had to bulk up lol. Does Ace have to pack on the pounds as well?
I mean, he definitely hit some kind of weights...

Kind of always thought the Griffiths bulk up thing was BS. There are certain positions/sports where bulking up will actually hurt you because your flexibility/elasticity is so important. Golf, Pitchers and shooters in basketball all come to mind. Not saying specific weight training shouldn't be involved, but flexibility/elasticity so much more important.

Uconned guards absolutely took over the game last night. Castle and Newton are elite, Cammie and Diarra are better than anyone else's #3 guards, by a sizeable margin.
Uconn just a better team period - they were just on a different level vs. Purdue. Purdue had Edey and not much else.

True, Karaban didn't light-up the scoreboard, but he outplayed every forward Perdue threw out there on the boards, assists and tough D. Conn's guards ran circles around the whole Boilmaker team though.

Congrats to UConn on the back to back titles. It is a great feat pulling that off in this era of college hoops. Cam Spencer was a big part of this victory and most here would have loved him to stay. Hurley has proved he can coach like his father and deserves the accolades.

Griffiths was skinny as a rail. That's not a knock on him because he was only what, 18 or 19? But he definitely looked like a boy amongst men out there. Spencer is not skinny as a rail. He's not as tall as Griffiths. There's no comparison, completely different builds.

This.

Real dumb thread lol.

Who made out better in this … Cam Spencer or Rutgers ? Maybe next season.

got to have great guard play to go deep in the tournament and win the tournament,, Uconn does and the boilers don’t. Smith did nothing the last two games,
Smith was defended continuously at mid court in both games. That really slowed down movements on offense and limited ball direction.

Its not by accident that UConn has won two straight national championships with different players starting each season. Its accomplished with recruiting, teaching fundamentals better than other schools and having players more interested in winning at a very high level versus concern over individual stats.Coach Hurley makes it happen and other schools should watch the video tape of UConn games and learn the concepts of winning basketball under the NIL and the transfer portal.

That is old school thinking. Strength training does not cause lack of flexibility and elasticity.

Hogwash. Strength training is a team requirement. You can’t have every player killing it in the weight room and one guy on the side enjoying a banana daiquiri.

Is your inference that GG was enjoying a banana daiquiri and not strength training?

If that is true, then it's a really bad look that HC Pike not only allowed it but actively wanted GG to return next season.
I would have assumed HC Pike wouldn't want that type of player and push/force them out of the program.

I'm curious why the OP feels that "hitting the weights" only means "bulking up". Just a guess that college basketball training is not akin to muscle beach workouts. Getting stronger through a training program means different things likely including agility drills & equipment, bikes and aerobic drills/equipment, stretching, jumping equipment etc.

Cam Spencer is 24 and talks that much shit to 18-21 year olds he’s playing against? I knew he was cool, but that cool? Probably why Raff talks about him like a proud father.

Wait a minute this kid was an integral part of a National Championship team. Now , we realize how he left is unsettling to most RU fans but that is a whole separate story. If you don’t like the player great but he already has something he can cherish for life.

Correct. That is why it is called "strength & conditioning" and not "bulk & posturing". On the college track team, we had three preseason weight-lifting regimens according to event. The distance runners would aim for 12-15 reps at corresponding weight loads. Sprinters, hurdlers & jumpers would aim for 8-10 reps. The weight guys would do 5-8 reps with their heavier loads. I remember the stretching routine to be about 45 mins and having been able to break a sweat during it. The difference between a 18–19-year-old frosh and a 23–24-year-old grad is a considerable amount of training and physical maturity.

Relax, Nick. It was a joke.
