At the beginning of the year I posted that it was apparent that RU is on the correct track. From an outsiders perspective I feel more certain of that than ever. You have a very good coach with a very profession staff. The conversation amongst recruits has changed and you are mentioned significantly more often than before.
SP made a great choice to start by adding legnth right from the get go. My guess is his next focus is to add some muscle. I actually think that it is harder fo you to recruit locally than other teams because of the conferece affiliation. The big10 doesn't have the same pull as the be and acc in this region.
The freshman came a long way this year and there is talent that wasnt there at a deeper level.
My guess is that they grow up a lot over the summer ...the real impact is the 2020 recruiting year I believe will be exceptional and that the full proram will kick in by then. Somewhere along the way in the next 18 months RU is going to land two program changing recruits.
Good luck enjoy the ride next season when I think you will be much improved in conference.
By the way - Look for both a grad student of excellent talent and a major transfer this summer

I agree, any coach trying to build a program is made or broken by the recruits who replace his early recruits. I feel like (you're SHU right?) you saw this with Willard.
Exceptional? From your lips to God's ears!

You heard we are in play for a major transfer? Or are you saying we should look for one lol

I hope you are right about the transfer, but we don't need muscle. We need an elite dribbler/passer and shooters.

Could be referring to the Massoud situation which I'm certainly hoping for? Ran into a guy at the soup stand from Seton Hall who overheard me talking about Rutgers. Said he's SHU guy but follows Rutgers and was very complimentary of what we have going on right now. I told him if not for Powell, we win that game earlier this year and he said everyone says that after they play us. I then asked if he sees Powell declaring for the Draft this year and he said absolutely not. He's too small for the NBA. I sort of disagree but have not watched enough SHU games to really assess?

Gym Rat, do you agree with this guy that Powell isn't an NBA player?

We were going up the ladder slowly this year but slipped down the next rung in March.

I think he is has NBA shooting skills But the NBA is brutal. No one like to talk about it but in great part it is a league defined by genetics. You have to be big enough and strong enough to play defense and if you don't think it begins and ends with defense you are completely kidding yourself.

Myles is a brilliant talent - for the college game. Myles will have a fine career and make some decent money playing somewhere but for it to be the NBA he would need to land with the exact right team that can use him in spite of his size. I certainly hope he gets that opportunity. He is a really great kid. The problem is that the back court for the Nets is 6-6 and 6-7 guys.

And here is the absolute truth - EVERYBODY IN THE NBA IS A GREAT SHOOTER OR THEY WOULD NOT BE IN THE NBA - ESPECIALLY THE GUARDS.

I played with a lot of NBA players and at 6 - 1 until you see a 6 -7 Kelly Tripuka coming at you - or for this board - until you run into James Bailey at 6 -10 in his physical prime and you hit him and he simply doesn't move - you have no idea how tough it is to stop one or to score over one.

I think you contradict yourself—“it begins and ends with defense” v “EVERYBODY . . . . IS A GREAT SHOOTER OR THEY WOULDN’T BE IN THE LEAGUE.”

Ok. So then you agree. I was kind of hoping he would declare after this season so we didn’t have to see him next year at the RAC.

That's why it is a ladder and not a bridge - the corner has been turned -stay with the program. Ignore the people who criticize Pike they don't know what they are talking about. Look at the week we had and there are multiple threads from the week before explaining why we need to fire KW. I don't think there has been a week since he got here where there haven't been multiple threads explaining why he has to go.

Next year will be half again better for RU and then when both our teams are back to being really good we will again play the types of games that made RU -SHU game the epics that they used to be.

Not in the least. They are all great shooters. They thing is that it is much easier to be a great offensive player than to stop one defensively,
You have to be a great offensive player to be in the league - but you must be able to stop the great offensive players if you want to stay in the league. The number of players that have the defensive mind set and physical skills to stop other NBA players is much smaller a population than those who can score.
Short makes it difficult in the extreme to evercome.

If you want to play in that league - you have to be able to do both.

Check out the article just for the fun of looking at from a statistical point of view.

I have no complaints as to where we are right now. Nobody knew exactly what to expect from such a young team. We had a few games slip away but that comes with inexperience. The RAC is back and the new practice facility plus the success of Pike is going to lure the next level of recruits. This was the first real season of the Pikiell era. Nobody will want to play Rutgers next year.

Fine. Then it CANNot “begin and end with defense.” you can call it essential but not sufficient but that is different.

bump for those like myself who missed this thread the first time

@GymRat is my new favorite poster with that OP!!!
