No question he was out of bounds before the pass, arguably Mulcahy forced him out, right call was problem a foul on Mulcahy

Agreed

Two blown bad calls in a row …and official was right there

Either call that a block on Caleb (which I don’t think it was ) to force him out or call him out

No call there on the foot being out of founds was awful too…right smack in front of the ref

Watched the game while playing poker with friends, all of whom are also RU fans and we were livid; just got home and started reading through the board posts and on line comments/tweets. Really, really bad refereeing missing the guy going out of bounds and coming back in to make the three. More understandable they might have missed the passer being OOB, but it appears that the passer being out of bounds is not reviewable, since there was no out of bounds call, as per below.

They need to change that aspect of the rule if the refs think someone might've been OOB, but weren't sure - although I'm guessing that would be a major expansion of the rules, since there was no whistle stopping play and would require the refs to review something after some subsequent play had occurred and not sure what the mechanism would be to initiate that. In soccer, VAR is used after additional play for some issues/infractions, whereas in football, those things usually involve coaches challenges or booth reviews at the end of the game. But refs missing two clear infractions in one sequence at the end of a game that decided the game incorrectly is simply unacceptable.

C. Instant Replay / Out of Bounds, Goaltending and Basket Interference - Per Rule 11-2.1.e.1 and .3, Instant Replay is permitted to review out of bounds plays and basket interference plays under certain situations: 1. Out of bounds a. Only permitted in the last two minutes of the second period or in the last two minutes of any overtime period; b. Review is only permitted when an out of bounds call has been made; c. Officials may determine if the ball went out of bounds and who caused the ball to be out of bounds.

Having said all that, if we foul the shooter with 3-4 seconds left instead of 5.8, we likely win, although one can't be sure they wouldn't have missed the 2nd FT on purpose instead of fouling (more time left made fouling attractive). I also think we should've had guys up on the FT line on Caleb's FTs and pressured the ball after the missed FT. Too bad what should've been a great road win will be remembered as a reffing debacle. Let's hope the team redoubles its focus and wins more than enough games that this doesn't affect our tourney chances. Lots of good things tonight...

Jokes on you ... I'm still focused on our our dumb foul followed by our missed foul shot.*

*And if we're really being honest, I'm laser-focused on the moronic decision to have Cliff out at the top of the key at portions of the first half.

Aside from Caleb please hit your free throws/ dribbler and shooter both out of bounds in front of a ref - We have to stop putting Mag out there for defense. He left his man (the shooter) to impede/trap who knows. Umass buzzer beater is another example comes to mind. Put jalen or Simpson or hell even leave cam out there and everyone stay with your man it’s a scramble drill.

In Mag's defense he left his man when he was standing out of bounds by more than a foot so there was no reason to guard him except for the refs

Great point hahha. U know what drives me even more mad (cherry on top of an amazing sports night for me as a Raiders fan as well) - the kid on OSU saying he felt he was in and hope they don’t change it. Hahahahahh. Like come on man, just say oh sh*t I was out we shouldn’t have gotten that I’ll take it, something to that effect.

I think that is harsh on Mag. If Thornton stays in bounds (which Mag has to assume since no whistle), and gets past Caleb (which he did), Mag has to make a decision. Thorton is running full speed to the 3 point line with 2 sec on the clock after getting past Caleb if Mag does not step up there.
I would say the odds of the pass/catch/turn and chuck 3 pointer from Holden is much lower chance then letting Thorton run up to the line and shoot a clean 3.

At least now the trifecta of royal ref screw jobs is complete:

1. RU Women at Tennessee. Clock not started, game extended.
2. RU vs St. Johns in Big East Tournament. Refs run off the court before the buzzer.
3. Last night - two missed violations leading to a prayer being answered.

If we all stay with our man, he’s chucking up an even longer near half court three. I’ll take my chances. U may be right though, But either way, video technology and a clear rule violation and somehow in 2022 we cant correct that, is the bigger story. No matter second guessing or fouling up 3 - we are up 2 and they passed to a guy out of bounds. .9 left. Rutgers hall. It’s not hard big ten. What are we doing and I say this as someone who works in sports with the conferences on the data and insights. It’s a joke.

You want to sit Mag bc of his defense 🤣

This board is hilarious sometimes

Mag is our 2nd best defender with little debate. He left a guy standing 2 feet out of bounds. The only way that pass is able to be completed is because the player was out of bounds.

After the second bounce off the rim, almost a full second elapses between the time Sensabaugh rebounds and and Passes it to Thorton.

There was 5.0 seconds on the clock when Caleb shot his foul shot and there was still somehow 5.0 seconds when the second Bucknut had the ball in their possession. I know we don't see the hundreths place on the clock. But REALLY TWO PLAYERS WERE ABLE TO TOUCH THE BALL without any time coming off the clock?

Watch Cliff in the replay. He’s pointing when Thornton steps out of bounds, and after the play he runs up to the ref, pointing at the spot where Thornton stepped out. If it was obvious to him in real time without a video review, shame on the refs for not seeing it.

The first dribbler travelled - two, maybe three steps. The whistle should have blown before the shot. Gutless refs.
