As for people saying game has passed her by, RU WBB has been improving ( not counting last season disaster) under Stringer's coaching, so I don't hold with the theory the game has passed her by, but will admit her type of game-day strategy is a hard one to be a championship contender because it takes certain types of players to make it thrive and Vivian gets enough of them to make a winning program, even now, but doesn't get enough on the roster to be considered a championship type of program that is a threat to take it all
I have always rejected the idea that the game has passed her by, because her chosen style is timeless - plenty of teams use it. The heavy emphasis on defense positions a team to be in games, but you need a certain amount of offense to win. At Rutgers' best, the defense was among the best in the country and the offense was sufficient.

As the style of offenses and emphasis on 3-point shooting has happened, the defense first strategy can still work, but it is more and more difficult. As you correctly note, it takes certain players to make it successful.

Sorry but age can have a LOT to do with it…sorry if that’s not touchy-feely or PC enough. In her case I just think the game has moved beyond her very successful but dated scheme. That’s not a knock, it’s just how things go. In the future, dawn staley herself, will have to deal with this. It isn’t an indictment on the individual. It’s reality.
Sorry. You're both missing my point. I'm talking purely the number itself. Not a person's diminished ability. I totally get that at some point you can no longer handle things the same. But that is different for each person.

Sorry I’ll disagree since though I’m 72 and in better shape than most and LOOK 8-10 years younger ( full head of hair and almost no grey) and still can walk and chew gum at the same time the proof lies in the facts. This thing that age shouldn’t be a factor is well over abused . Just look at our leaders in DC from both parties who continuously are an embarrassment to the country. If you want to continue to hold that job as you age then you should be tested and it should be a test of physical dexterity and mental acuteness. I know of several that are well past the time of barely functioning. Fortunately I prefer retirement and able to live a simple and comfortable existence. It is time for Stringer to pack it in and move aside. Plenty of good up and coming coaches out there.

PS. I'm 63 and have a full head and almost no grey too. Folks keep asking if I dye my hair and it pisses me off and makes me feel good at the same time. :)

oh, and regarding the old fools in DC....let me add Term Limits... (but that's a CE topic)

CVS has always emphasized defense at the expense of offense. As you said, in our heyday that philosophy worked. As WBB became more popular and the women's game became more athletic and offense minded, CVS did not adapt.

Age is a factor in this suspected health issue. Age brings many unwanted problems.

Every day this goes on just shows everyone the selfishness of this woman and the worse off this program is going to be
Selfish or a never give up attitude.
Let's wait till June and see what develops.
CVS might feel she has years left as a top coach and it seems Hobbs agrees because of the contract extension and the extensions he gave Stringer when she asked to extend her LOA.

It might not be a selfish move for someone to want to continue their career and without knowing all the facts involving this situation, Vivian might feel she can still be a good HC and want to come back to prove it with Hobbs agreeing she's a good fit for the program if she can return fully healthy.
Looking at her l;ast two years, they were winning ones that just about every AD wouldn't terminate the HC that was in charge.

But if in June Vivian isn't ready to come back, I might change my mind about her being selfish by not retiring while out because she's not healthy enough to coach yet.
I'm hoping for the secercy to end about her being on LOA and extensions given before accusing CVS of being a selfish person.
As long as Hobbs doesn't say anything, I don't know what to think and won't accuse anyone without knowing the facts surrounding this situation.

As for me , I am concerned Stringer won't last her full term in goods health and might need time off during a season to rest up before coaching again , so I feel it's best for her to retire and let another take control of the program.
But that's just my speculating the worst and it might not happen and Vivian will prove she has it in her to stay the full term at 100%

But I can understand the criticism of Stringer because this matter isn't settled and needed to be way before now.
