TAKE THE NJ.COM NO CLICK PLEDGE

Why do u say Todd is no longer cool?
What did he write?
Never have seen an anti- RU message from him
Todd is a RU fan and a source of positive recruiting info.
He tries to put things in the best possible light and there are some that don't like that.
Guess they want to see: don't expect this kid at Rutgers, instead of the kid likes Rutgers but is leaning towards Delaware St.

He basically regurgitated all of the b.s. the ledger and nj.com has been spewing all week. Very serious for KF blah blah blah. No facts just same old shit. No mention of leak being a disgruntled employee who was passed over for a job in the athletic dept.

Stopped for a long time then they sucked me back in with the fluff pieces. Was also very leery of them and was waiting for their slam piece. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Will not click again as I was played for a fool thinking they had changed their ways.

Politi's column today was right on the money.

I wonder how Todderick even got mixed up with all those other guys at NJ.com.

He is just so clearly heads and shoulders above them with his coverage and relationships with the players.

And for the past 2 years or so I have checked NJ.com Rutgers Football every single morning and every night and today was MY FIRST DAY not doing this. I must say it felt good to explore the other sites and find new sources for my RU Football information.

Stopped going there a year ago ... and I don't miss it at all. You guys are gonna be so much happier.

I read every bit of Rutgers coverage I can during my down time at work, and I will continue to do so. As I am 2,500 miles away, I need as much as I can get. There are individual reporters I will not click on, including a couple from nj.com and one Rutgers alum, who no longer is employed in the business. But it's the Daily T^&*$m site I absolutely, positively refuse to click on, ever. Ever. Just can't do it.

The Daily Targum is the 2nd oldest student paper in the nation and the first to post daily issues online. The sports writing is great.

NJ.com has the most comprehensive free Rutgers Football coverage of any site on the web. I'm not about to give that up because someone is thin-skinned enough to be outraged by the tone and tenor of Advance Media's coverage of Rutgers issues.

Stop reading Rutgers news because I don't like the way this group of nitwits us covering us? If you think you need to be a part of a populist movement to "harm" NJ.com because you think they're on a mission to slag Rutgers, you give that news site and its readers far too much credit for their influence, and you're elevating "better press coverage" from 149th to 1st on the list of things Rutgers people should be worried about fixing at Rutgers.

Just one man's viewpoint, but this association of like-minded people doesn't come off sounding like the McLaughlin Group when it starts espousing commitments not to read conflicting viewpoints or be well informed about the tone being set by the press in the marketplace of ideas.

Rutgers is still last on the list of Big Ten endowments. Last on the list of donors as a percentage of living alumni. Worst on-field win percentage of any athletic department in the Big Ten in 2014/5. I totally get the need to take out that frustration on the organs that are seemingly piling on our inability to control our own destiny, but I think our energy and interest is better focused on the things that we can do to build our brand than it is identifying and labeling our enemies.

The people who lead those movements are not the builders of great things.

I respectfully disagree with "most comprehensive." Looks like the "most" because it is mostly recycled stuff over and over.

Check out yesterday's coverage on Scarlet Scuttlebutt, which has all of he coverage from the Asbury Park Press and Home News and Tribune:
http://blogs.mycentraljersey.com/rutgers/

The Targum has better investigative writing analysis and writing than Sargent and Duggan hands down:

I cannot address every point in your long soliloquy, but the point of this thread is not about avoiding reading something with a conflicting viewpoint. It is about taking a stand, refusing to support intentionally negative press, and to not feed the trolls with a clear agenda at NJ.com and NJ Advance Media.

Agreed, it's not supporting those who take a bias slant and whose stated goal is to hurt the Athletic department and Rutgers. Also with all due respect the most in depth coverage of Rutgers football is by the staff on this site and the Daily Targum.

I take the pledge!
Actually, I stopped reading NJ.com a few days ago when this thread started up. I have to say, I don't miss that rag. I found that 3/4 of the articles were content free anyway. Many of the articles are just clickbait, and when you get to the article, it just summarizes/references older articles without adding any new info. Stopped reading, and I feel clean!

Go read today's editorial, and let me know if you feel the same way. It is posted on one of the threads.

For the rest of the football season, I pledge to not click on any NJ.com articles that refer to Rutgers University athletics.

I reject the muckraking style of their employees and I will not add to their revenues by viewing or speaking about any of NJ.com 's content.

Here are alternate sources of Rutgers Football content:
http://www.dailytargum.com/section/football
https://rutgers.rivals.com
http://blogs.mycentraljersey.com/rutgers
http://www.app.com/sports/college
http://snyrutgers.com

Sound off and join me!
I like muckraking. I don't like fake muckraking yellow journalism. So, yes, I'll take the pledge.

That editorial was the last straw for me. Yes, yellow journalism at it's best. I'll take the pledge. Please don't link them on this site...

SanFran - your viewpoint here sucks
Sorry
I'm not here to win hearts and minds, just to express my own opinion. I respect your right to disagree.

To be clear, I thought the Ledger's editorial was unabashed bullshit, but I didn't consider it the basis for an editorial blackout. If I'm not able to confront editorial idiocy with rigorous counterargument, then what does it say about my ability to mount an effective critical response to mindless board room bloviation? -- essentially, the basis for my entire education at Rutgers.

Boycotts are boring.

I join the pledge crusade, it would help if no one linked anything also

San Fran - sounds good in theory, but your logic doesn't apply with those clowns. They don't want to have an honest discussion and let you use your Rutgers education.

They just want to partake in sensationalism and get people fired up and making clicks.
It would be like an editor at their site saying black people are dumb, and letting people spout off with a bunch of nonsense. They are throwing a grenade in a room and walking away and hoping to create chaos. It is irresponsible "journalism."

The are not TMZ (or at least they shouldn't be), because they sure act like it.

Likewise, you are completely entitled to your opinion. To me, rigorous counterargument of a stated position that you do not agree with is one thing. However, the not only biased but many times also patently false, reporting that the S/L and nj.com have done make reading their articles and arguing about them not even worth my time. I simply have no desire for them to even receive the additional advertising business that my clicking on their articles could potentially give them.

This request has been made to the board before, but I'll repeat it. It's suggested that you find other sources of news/info for Rutgers football (there are plenty), but if you insist on continuing to return to said source, make sure to be clear when linking or discussing them here. Many of us have no desire to knowingly or unknowingly click on or read their content.

San Fran,

Is there anything they could do to stop you from supporting them? I, for one, don't understand this mentality.

I deleted the app, plenty of info on APP, this site and others.
