He didn’t do anything that a lot of players do and don’t get T’d up. Bullshit call. That official absolutely stinks. Why was that a technical on Simpson he didn’t taunt anyone other than the fans?
Normally, I would agree with you, but Simpson made several gestures and then cursed at the fans where the official was standing there. I was pissed, but pissed at Simpson. You have to keep your head there. Because of what he did, he allowed a 6-point swing in 26 seconds. Regardless of how you feel about it being a shitty call or not, as a player, you can't let officials grab the game from you.Why was that a technical on Simpson he didn’t taunt anyone other than the fans?

It wasn't the hand gestures, but he did yell F...you twice and might have added a bit more. So is that worth a tech?
Every time a block is made at the rim players say audibly “get that shit out of here” to the opponent. Its never a THe very clearly said “shut the f up” to the crowd twice. I have no idea how often THAT happens across the country, but let’s just be thankful he can learn from this in a win, not a loss.

Again, it was more than what he said.Every time a block is made at the rim players say audibly “get that shit out of here” to the opponent. Its never a T

Yeah it’s not Simpson’s fault there were like 10 people there.Refs think people come to watch them. If marylands arena wasnt a morgue it wouldnt have been a T
That actually is a fair point. Refs likely hearing more than they typically do in a full venue. The T definitely did not need to be called, but you can also see why it was given how pronounced Derek was with what he said, with his gestures, etc. Like I said, glad he learned in a W as opposed to a L.Yeah it’s not Simpson’s fault there were like 10 people there.
That’s the issue! Don’t call that with three minutes left. Come on. Ref inserting self in game. RidiculousSimpson got a bit carried away but that’s not a technical 9/10 times…especially with 3 minutes left in the game.
More like 99 out of 100. First time I have ever seen a t for taunting the crowd lol. Rutgers gets a lot of first time ever bad calls.Simpson got a bit carried away but that’s not a technical 9/10 times…especially with 3 minutes left in the game.
To be honest I think that ball hit Mag's leg but agree with the rest.Garbage call at that point in the game. Good ref gives a warning. No taunting of opposition. Four point play puts Maryland back in the game. Ref inserted himself in game. Blew out of bounds call. Bad officiating all game.
10/10Simpson got a bit carried away but that’s not a technical 9/10 times…especially with 3 minutes left in the game.
Yeah...no.To be fair it was a technical and good call by the refs. He cursed twice to the crowd. If he just did the shhhh and held his finger up it wouldn't have been called. Clearly he was mad at them yelling airball all game
Just need to be more mature in those situations
I didn’t see that on replay. To be honest I think that ball hit Mag's leg but agree with the rest.
I agree. Hell, I have been even cussed at by a player with the ref, standing right there, preparing for an inbound. That ref smiled and laughed.Yeah...no.
Like many of you on here I watch hundreds of college basketball games every year. I'm not sure I've ever seen that called on a player. Ever.
Neither did I — did the broadcasting crew think they saw it out off of Mag? I watched it, but I had no sound.I didn’t see that on replay.

That's all fine but there needs to be some consistency with this kind of shit. There's all kind of sportsmanship BS that gets called like 5% of the time. It needs to be 0% or 100%.None of us were on the court to see what was going on during the game or specifically that incident and who Derek gestured to. The announcers said that was the right call there. I get why people are upset as we see plenty of this taunting going on and its not called. For me they should call it on everyone, I dont like it anytime when Harper carries balls to the ground or the Nebby guy gives the shh. To me shouldnt be part of the game. Hopefully a learning lesson for Derek. Let the play you just made which was awesome speak for itself
Preach! If you have more taunts in a 3 seconds period than baskets made, you need to dial back the "me" and focus on the team
5% is extremely extremely generous. More like < 0.000001 %That's all fine but there needs to be some consistency with this kind of shit. There's all kind of sportsmanship BS that gets called like 5% of the time. It needs to be 0% or 100%.
Ref can warn him. Ref should never insert himself into outcome which he did. Have seen other players and teams and never a call.None of us were on the court to see what was going on during the game or specifically that incident and who Derek gestured to.
