Texas

No, I'm not calling you shallow. I'm making the point if someone makes a decision based only on money, it makes that person shallow. If money solved problems, then we wouldn't have other issues. And what's the saying, "Mo money, mo problems." Money doesn't buy you happiness.
All good. We can agree to disagree. Bringing it back, I sure as hell hope RU pays Pike enough to keep him. Teams will come calling, and he will listen. Hobbs appears to value basketball and football’s tv money allows us to afford to pay Pike the market rate. I agree that UConn is the top threat.

I think Hurley is comfortable at UConn as it is the right fit for him. He's a Big East guy who likes that environment. At Texas, he would be a fish out of the water, just like Shaka Smart was at Texas.
Hurley and Pike have great situations where they can beat most teams on any given day. Why would you want to leave that to go to a school that would dump you in 3 years if you don’t win a title? Who needs that stress

If Rutgers can pay one OC for football $1 million and fire him, then replace him with another at $1.4 million, they can fine money to pay Pike to keep him.

I won't be surprised to see Texas or other big programs reaching out to Pike after this season. I would be surprised if he was interested in Texas, for reasons stated above. UConn would be different because your alma matter is unique.

I have no issue with this thread showing up on a game day. Somehow I doubt it will cause any distraction to the team or staff today, especially with the early tip time.

Schools will come after Pike. The question will be whether he wants a statue out in front of the RAC of him and an enduring legacy. Assuming we pay him a fair increase, I don’t think he’ll go

Yep. UT is the most fickle AD department in college sports. No one is even close

I don’t think pike will leave but we also have to look at asst coaches remember we have the same staff for 7 years which is uncommon these days and is the strength of this team and the success. Pike is the man but can only do so much pay bump for everyone in my eyes

I LOVE Pike
Texas has better options available to them right now.
Pike has done great things building our foundation & I expect even greater down the road.
But, I don't see Texas going hard after a coach that has Never gone to the Elite 8 or Final 4, let alone the sweet 16.

If I was Texas, why wouldn't I reach out to Pike to see if there was interest?
Of course and he'd be at the top of the list.

What happens if Pike doesn't really like recruiting, especially in NIL world AND he knows at Texas he might not really need to recruit because of NIL.

That being said I'd be surprised (not shocked) if he left.

who?

Shallow? Name a coach who has not left a program if another school offers to double his salary.
This is a business. It's not about sentiment.

Lol the texas fanbase will castrate their AD if they go after pike. Could you imagine texas hiring a coach who has never made a sweet 16? They’d shit a brick.

Name an elite program willing to double the salary of a current P5 coach who has never made a sweet 16.

I am confident that Rutgers would do everything they could financially to keep Pike if it came down to money.

Forgive me for not believing that an Alabama fan who seems interested in RU sports is talking to "heads" at Texas about their basketball coaching search
Let me correct myself because people will take your words and create a whole narrative in today’s world. I have not spoken to any official from the university of Texas. Wtf am I lmfao. I was referring to speaking with UT fans.

He's not leaving. End of story.$$$ irrelevant and Texas will hire Kelvin or Oats.
How can you end the story? I know if I were the AD of Texas Steve Pikiell would be near or at the top of my list. Why would I want Kelvin Sampson over Pike?

It might take less than two years of modest success for Texans to tell Coach Pikiell that he is all hat, no cattle.

I'll be shocked if pike leaves. But remember if the money is stupid that gets offered to him you never know and Texas has no taxes.

Maybe Pikes agent didn't like Capt Kirk's new contract and floated out this rumour?

Pikes' buyout is 15 million unless Hobbs leaves, FYI. I don't think he's going anywhere.

Money is definitely a consideration but it is not everything. At some point there are people who decide they have enough.

The only argument I can make is that NIL $ beats the entire last sentence.

NIL can only “defeat us” in football and not for the coaches. We can afford to pay Pike (or a football coach) boat loads of money to keep him. We’ll be able to pay what it takes to retain star BB players in our program who want to return for another season. Eventually, you’d think there will also be deals for jersey sales and RU fans will buy them for their kids. That will help and we’ll find lucative contracts for our best players anyway. We’ll never be the kind of program that will pay for potential but only a handful of teams will and entitlement issues will likely cause that strategy to backfire often in basketball.

Football is a different animal. Too many critical positions in the game where gaps can hold you back. In BB a few studs combined with 3 star guys can produces a very good team.

I wouldn't doubt it that Pike is on the list but Texas can get pretty much whoever they want. Chris Beard was one of the top coaches in the country and a couple of years removed from losing the national championship in overtime.

A local radio station in Texas mentioned people knew Beard was getting fired, and a list of potential replacements was floated around by decision-makers at UT:

Jerome Tang KSt

Brad Underwood Illinois

Musselman Arkansas

Bruce Pearl Auburn

Nate Oats Alabama

Chris Holtmann Ohio St

Ed Cooley Providence
Can’t speak to everyone on that list, but ZERO chance Underwood or Holtmann leave for what is close to a lateral move…

Texas Tech was in a much better spot than Ohio State and Illinois are now when Beard left for Texas. He was also getting paid more than both are getting paid now.

Duke UNC Texas Kentucky Gonzaga Michigan State Villanova

Maybe but we’re going to offer plenty of money. A move wouldn’t be about that and you tend to like to blame NIL for everything but that alone is not going to do cause him to leave unless we start striking out with recruits. He’s happy in NJ and we’re going to pay him plenty. Why would he uproot his family to Texas?

Wasn't Beard a Texas grad? I thought that was the primary lure in that situation. He got more money but not an obscene amount more.

Only if money was stupid for both him and recruits could I see him leave. I don’t think many coaches like to recruit.
