Rutgers does not get a full membership payment for being in the B1G until 2021 if I read the articles on this issue correctly. Does anyone else have concerns by the time we get to that point that the landscape for college football changes and RU never receives this significant payoff. Having RU compete with a lack of financial resources only seems to insure that we will continue to lose recruiting battles based on a lack of comparable facilities and resources and results in losing games unless we hit gold with a coach who out performs his job in a big way. I don't see how it's beneficial for RU to continue to get its head beat in by the big boys as we will all lose interest except for the most committed Rutgers fans. TV numbers will suffer as well. I understand RU was in a very poor negotiating position at the time but it appears this deal may only benefit the other teams in the B1G that get bigger pay checks because of expanded TV markets and a fairly easy win. Tell me there really is a pot of gold (not just money but a competitive team) at the end of the this B1G rainbow.

It is what it is. You make valid points. We're playing with the big boys who have many built in longstanding advantages. We do have a fertile recruiting ground and an unbelievable population density. Success would be truly amazing. Also, it is a zero sum game ... if we're not here.. where are we? How would we even compete in a conference or has beens. Look at what happened to basketball in the a 10. We were losing regularly to Duquesne and bonaventure. I'll take the seat at the big boy table
RU has all the right pieces in place to make a move in the BIG. As most here know, it will take at least 3 good recruiting years before we can see a solid product on the field. It could happen before then, if Ash can find some available JUCO players to fill key positions until he can close on 3 good recruiting classes. The decisions made to hire Ash and Hobbs are the right ones in my opinion to be competitive in the BIG. It will take some time, but I feel really good about the future for the first time in a long time. We will again take our lumps this week! This is a process that will take time to wash away the old regime. I'm sad we have to go through it like many, but to those who do understand what's really happening here, will endure the patience needed to be rewarded in the coming seasons.
Blitz takes a very optimistic approach. We are competing against the blue bloods of college football. Kids grow up dreaming of playing for these schools. To ignore this is folly. Financially we have one hand tied behind our backs compared to every one of them. Even Maryland has under armour money. We can do it but I don't think it is as simplistic as we have a good coach ( who had never been a head coach previously) It's gonna be hard.

PSU & Ne joined w the same agreement. It's a means to compensate the other schools for their investment to success. The success that the new schools want to become members of. Remember, it's a business and this is part of buying into a successful business.
So is the OP's point that we can't compete, that we can't compete until we get a full share and he's worried the rules will somehow change before then, or that we shouldn't have joined the conference unless we got a full share from the beginning?
Well, teams that have been in the Big Ten forever have trouble competing with the top tier, so I don't worry about the first one. If anything, the evidence suggests more money, not less, if the rules change as live sports is just about the only way advertisers can make sure viewers watch commercials these days, helping boost rights fees. And as for the third one, that's just fairness. They have built this brand for a long time, and we need to pay our dues before being full members.

Look, we have beaten BIG teams before we were even in the Conference. 3 wins against Michigan State and 2 and 0 against Northwestern. So to say we can't do it again is just crazy and a very negative way to think. We need to rebuild and the pieces are in place to do that. It's gonna happen again!

One way to overcome some of our programs shortcomings is to hire a seasoned, and incredibly dynamic coach. In my mind the jury is still out on Chris Ash. I haven't seen the coaching, or relationship builder I think Rutgers needs to help us recruit solid players, and maintain and expand a fan base as we try to hold on until our B1G pay day in 2021, although several people here feel differently.
In the meantime I love the optimistic approach some are taking. We have the opportunity to watch some of these famous programs up close. Tomorrow night is one of those opportunities as we watch watch Michigan. They made up their collective mind to bring their team back by hiring one of the most dynamic coaches in all of sports. Love him or hate him, Harbaugh will be fun to watch tomorrow.

Going from the possibility of abandoning football to receiving a full Big Ten payout in 15(?) years is a nice turn around IMO.
We may not be getting a full share till 2021 but our share will be increasing each year, correct? So that will represent several million more $$$ per year than we had been getting in the BE and our income side has been up in other areas including donations since joining the B1G.
I believe that next year will be the first year that Nebraska will receive a full share.

We knew what the plan was when we joined and how long it was going to take to get our share. Any substantial funds sounded great at the time and still far better than elsewhere. So why keep bringing up all the negativity about waiting until 2021 ! Maybe it's a diversion from the on field activities.
At least the R BUILD is moving along and we're upgrading facilities to help recruiting. Our teams eventually have to produce for any kind of success or it won't matter. What happens if we're not much further along with our teams, but we're receiving a lot more money. Will it make a difference to the fans and ticket revenues ?
Right now it's bad and progress appears to be slow so hang in there. I was watching some of the old highlights on UTube and suddenly felt more RUish. The bad part was seeing the great receivers we had and the plays we were able to make. And Nova looks great on the film too.
The price we have to pay is being 3rd tier and trying to move up one notch. The next move is to be competitive with almost any team and to beat some. Moving slowly toward that goal.

The Big is our home now! Get used to it until the day you die. There are no other leaps to make to other Conferences. Where else would you want to go? The SEC? The PAC. This is it guys. We are not gonna down grade to another Conference like the AAC or ACC after coming this far. We are in it for the long haul and the University is committed to making us relevant again. I appreciate the "get off your meds" quotes. But I truly believe that RU has been set up as a sacrificial lamb for the B1G ( the B1G gets improved tv contracts) and RU gets more than they were getting but nothing near what the other schools are getting. I understand all the financials involved in not being in the conference but I do not enjoy watching these type of games and no truly good NJ recruit is going to come to RU seeing this nonsense. Good luck waiting until 2021 , this was a bad deal, there should have been some type of escalator to RU and Md. for increased viewership brought by those schools instead the gap was made larger. This was a bad deal and you are seeing it on the field tonight and this season.
