2012. The last Schiano-recruited class. Ranked #31 in the nation. The class that Flood was hired to keep together. Which he did. And not much else. Certainly not recruiting. In 2012 Flood went 9-4 with Schiano's players and schemes. And as these players left, so did Flood's chances of winning. 2013 6-7, recruited the #44 class. 2014 8-5, #58 class. 2015 4-8, #54 class. And in 2016 Flood brought in the #78 class.

I count 8 players left that Schiano recruited, not including transfers. Lambert's gone for the year. That leaves 7. To say the cupboard is bare is a massive understatement. And Flood's recruits are now playing offensive and defensive schemes they were not recruited for. After looking at this, I'm now amazed we've won two games this year. But when we were down to Howard 14-0, I guess that should've been a tip off.

So last year was the end of Schiano's offense and defense (since Flood changed almost nothing.) This year will be the end of his players. Would they be doing better this year if they were still playing the old Schiano/Flood schemes that they've played for the last 5 years? No doubt. But we would be stuck with another year of Flood's recruiting. What could we expect? A recruiting class in the 90's?

Instead we have a brutal rebuilding year, and the #22 recruiting class in the nation for 2017. And a head coach, suffering through his first year ever in the job.

Yes this sucks. Next year can't get here fast enough. But for those of you who have longed for big time football at Rutgers, this is where it starts. And there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Here's to hoping it's not an oncoming train.

Nice post OP, always have felt bad for the kids when GS left as i'm sure they'd had been coached up much better, i'll be beyond shocked & thrilled if we can bring in a top 30 class this offseason

Unfortunately, next year won't be much better. Year 3 we might see the light. Might.

It will not be any better next year. We are playing with Floods 2 stars. Brace yourself and hope we make it to year 3

Next year??? If you think this year is bad with at least some highly ranked Seniors, next year is going to be flat out abysmal! This is about 3 years of holding we have strong recruiting classes to finally complete in the B1G.

Flood didn't just lose recruits - he lost the team and guys drifted off into vice. When everyone including players say how "nice" the head coach is that's usually something to be suspicious of. Being nice morphs into spoiling easily

You do realize that year three would be 2018 and you are still hedging by using the word "MIGHT". Finally, year 4 would be 2019. I refuse to believe that Golden or Rhule wouldn't have won 4 or 5 wins this year, potential 6 or 7 next year and in 2018 threatening for a 9-3 season. As fans we have been beaten down to a point where a 6-6 season in 2018 would be considered a move in the right direction.

The lack of talent issue does not fly. Both Iowa and Illinois were very winnable. We have coaching issues. OC and special teams. Lack of coaching experience and on the job training killing us. That's not Flood's fault.

Okay. He is a first year head coach. He is learning too. Give the negativity a damn break. We have enough of it watching the games. Let's give the guy a chance to learn, recruit and maybe get some better coordinators in before just saying he is a failure. This damn board....

And before you give me the...well we should have hired a proven guy speech...no proven guy without flaws was coming here with the mess we had. So I much prefer giving a guy his shot. More motivation to win and win right.

The world of instant gratification is ridiculous. If that's what you want I got some other websites you can visit....
