The full 42 game bowl schedule

Was the mission for the OP to pick out the worst game of the entire bowl schedule?

Wtf cares about Uconn v Marshall?
How about Rice and Georgia Southern being in bowls?

Rice, think about that. And wasn’t Georgia Southern FCS?

How ridiculous is it that small school Tulane whose program has been garbage for 40 years save for a fluke 12-0 season in 98 which only got them to the Liberty Bowl, is in the Cotton Bowl vs USC

I think their record earned them the ranking.

How different is the situation now vs 2006.

In 2006, Rutgers ended the regular season with an AP ranking #7 and won their First Bowl (Texas Bowl) in school history by beating Kansas State 37-10 ending the season with a 11-2 record and AP ranking of #12. Rutgers performance and record earned the ranking that year.

How funny would that be if Tulane beats USC.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

That surprised me

I thought that the Military Bowl or the Armed Forces bowl would go to Army if qualified. I thought I saw that in a pre season article.
I guess not.
Getting shut out of a bowl at 5-6 is the tradeoff that Army and Navy accept, in exchange for getting exclusivity in the second week of December, after the bowl invitations are announced.

Well the Green Wave logo painted on their field is really cool.

Actually, I think teams need to stop scheduling weak non competitive OOC teams to beat so they can get to 6-6 to get into a Bowl.

Did Greg say he was trying to soften the schedule of future Rutgers OOC football games.

At least the Bowl games will feature competitive teams playing which will be much more interesting than many of the OOC games played during the year.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

Well, spend a couple of years in the B1G East and see if you still think that. ; )

In the 12 team playoff they would move up from the 16th ranking to be in the CFP as the 12 seed.

Tulane competing for the national championship.
Get used to it.
Wait until Temple wins the watered down AAC (no Cincy, Tulane or UCF) and make the CFP.

First, congratulations and good luck to Cole Snyder in the Camelia Bowl against Georgia Southern. Leave RU and bowl dreams come true.

Second, best of luck to our former OC, Jerry Kill, taking New Mexico State bowling in the Quick Lane Bowl against Bowling Green. New Mexico State took a Big Ten bowl spot because there were not enough six win teams to fill their bowl allotment.

Georgia Southern joined the Sun Belt (FBS) in 2014. This is their 5th bowl appearance. They are 3-1 in the previous four.

Well, spend a couple of years in the B1G East and see if you still think that. ; )

Well, when the BIG gets rid of divisions Rutgers schedule will reflect the change.
Greg as he did as a member of the original BIG EAST always wanted to soften the OOC schedule.
Its his preference so I don't have an issue with it.

Some schools schedule more competitive OOC games.

In any event college football is a changing with NIL and Transfer Portal.

I believe Pitt QB Slovis may enter the Portal so we may lose him I guess and QB Jerkovic (ND,BC-Cignetti) is transferring to Pitt.

I guess Pitt backup QB Patti may be the QB against UCLA if Slovis goes (Transfer Potal open until Jan 18, 2023).
Just have to go with the flow.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

A reason why I can't wait for the 12-team playoff. In a better world, USC would be playing Alabama, and KSU would play Tulane. But we're all stuck with the Bowl tie-ins.

Not a Rutgers guy, but since Coach Schiano plays in a division that is so strong that this year it supplied 2 of the 4 playoff teams, it is not unwise to go with a softer OOC schedule in my opinion. If he was in a weaker league, sure, got to build up some credibility...

I get it, every school wants to get to a Bowl so they need at least 6 wins.

Pitt plays a reasonable OOC schedule with some competitive teams that I actually want to see. This year it was WVU and Tennessee and next year it will be Notre Dame, WVU and Cincinnati.

Pitt v. WVU - that should be fun.

That's not how the 12-team playoff will work.

Bye (Top 4 Conference Champs)
1. Georgia (13-0)
2. Michigan (13-0)
3. Clemson (11-2)
4. Utah (10-3)

5. TCU (12-1) v. 12. Tulane (11-2)
6. Ohio State v. 11. Penn State (10-2)
7. Alabama v. 10. USC (11-2)
8. Tennessee (10-2) v. 9. Kansas State (10-3)

Assuming no upsets:

1. Georgia v. 8. Tennessee
2. Michigan v. 7. Alabama
3. Clemson v. 6. Ohio State
4. Utah v. 5 TCU

Semi-Finals (forget seeding - actual higher ranked teams win)

1. Georgia v. 5. TCU
2. Michigan v. 6 Ohio State

Georgia Southern became FBS in 2014
Clay Helton is their HC now and they were 6-6 this season, 3-5 Sun Belt
Might find going bowling a little easier in the Sun then the PAC

Rice was 5-7 ( 3-5 conference USA) , but made it to lending tree bowl,
Mike Bloomgren is the Owls HC slowly improving them since he was hired

there needs to be less bowls
I'm fine with all the bowls. But ESPN and these minor bowls have to make it so that the participants don't lose money by participating. At worst case, it should be break even for the schools. But yeah, it has gone from not being able to get into one with a 7-3 or 7-4 record in the 90s, to now you can get into one at 5-7.

It means less having more bowls but the big ones still are important and who doesn't like some bonus college football?

How ridiculous is it that small school Tulane whose program has been garbage for 40 years save for a fluke 12-0 season in 98 which only got them to the Liberty Bowl, is in the Cotton Bowl vs USC
Yeah … and even sadder is Tulane would kick our a## right now.
