The Secret Of Watching Us On TV

I understand this--sometimes I'll take a walk around the block--it's espesciilly hard when they're winning and you want the game over

DVR it and start watching it about 15 mins after tip off. Use fast forward / rewind when needed for commericals etc or when you get pissed etc instead of changing the channel. Take a break at halftime and repeat the process.
This is my strategy (especially now with a toddler, a lot more stopping and starting). "Ah shit, down 3, fast forward, oh nice now we're up 1, I'll go back and see how that happened" or "Ah shit, down 3, fast forward, now down 7, well that sucks, fast forward..."

Once I've watched a game this way I'll typically go back and watch again a few hours later or the next day, and by then I'm either loving the replay of the win or have processed the loss and can now watch the bad parts I skipped earlier without much emotion.

I don't get loud but I will throw a few "what the f***s" out there either to our guys or to the refs.

In person I'm almost always okay but when we threw away the inbound pass against Penn State last year my calf started twitching in a way it's never done before or since.

Can someone explain to me the formula and mindset that allows you to watch an entire RU basketball game on TV?😊
Zero problem watching us live.
I simply go insane and begin checking the score on line when I can’t take it anymore.
What’s worse, is when I turn the channel we invariably make a run.
Im so looking forward to tomorrow night, it’s a big time event and I cannot tell you how much of it I’ll see.
Don’t mistake this post for my being laissez-faire, I’m the exact opposite, I’m crazy.
Love it......

I do the same thing for all away games on tv...watch scores and check in every once in awhile. Watch last couple minutes if interesting.

I get frustrated when my daughter watches on tv.

Usually the games I watch on TV are road games as I am a season ticket holder. Turn the volume off. Hearing the visiting crowd's roar during our lapses in performance is what makes me insane. Play some music and watch the action.
Good idea...plus some announcers like Miami and Temple name it difficult to listen.

Does anyone rewatch losses? That’s where I draw the line. I record every game but can’t rewatch a loss. I still have the ND game on my DVR. Has not and will not be watched ever again
I generally do as I mentioned above but the exception is the Houston game. That one was spoiled by a text from my father in law to my wife and I turned it off with like two minutes left. At some point I saw the Houston rebound and the and-1 and the Geo turnover. I know Myles missed a dunk before all that but I have not actually watched that play.

I'm way more nervous watching our basketball games on tv than any other sport. Feels like each missed basket is going to lead to 10 points the other way. I get the feeling the other team won't miss a shot and we have no room for error.

That’s another one I will never rewatch. I came home and went right to bed. Didn’t even say anything to my kids. It will like 8:00 local. I could hear my wife saying “Rutgers lost and I don’t think dad will be coming out of the room tonight.”

Home game = I watch the full game
Away game = I watch the full game but I also have a TV show playing on my IPad next to me. If I dont do this, I learned that I can be a really really MAD PERSON during Rutgers away games and nothing is safe around me. Having to split my mind between away game and good TV show, levels my madness and can deal with STUPID PLAYS much better...

Same. I’ll look at this board begging for someone to tell me the damn score because I can’t take it. There’s also the phenomenon of turning it off because you think watching will ruin the team's good fortune. Mike Lupica called this process, “THE POWER”, in his book wait till next year, one chapter of which, was devoted to our own Bob Wenzel
Done that too.

Tivo it and start watching 30-45 minutes after it starts. Then FF thru tense spots and half time to finish around real time.

It’s been well documented that kids your and my age have shorter attention spans. 😀

I also find it hard not to get distracted when watching a game live. There are to many commercial breaks and I start doing something else. Like others have suggested I set the DVR, turn it on about 20 minutes after the start and get get caught up in time to watch it live during the stretch.

Zap, I was literally having chest pains watching the basketball team play in March. Then 6 months later I had a stent put in. Turns out I had a 99% blockage in one of my arteries. Now I watch games pain free.
I think you have to wait until March to really make sure the problem is fixed

While not exactly what Zappa is talking about, the secret for me is NEVER watch games live. I live 3000 miles from the RAC so for me its either live on TV or tape delay. I DVR everything and watch it later in the day or night time. This allows me to fast forward when things go sideways and I get frustrated. I didn't even see the last 5 min of the first half of Temple game a couple weeks ago. It also explains why my crazy rants after ugly losses are always a few hours after the game has ended. Yes,it makes me look completely unbalanced to "go off"hours after the fact but it allows me to avoid serious pain and mental suffering. Also, and maybe most importantly, I can fast forward through commercials and halftime. During big games i get so nervous my feet start sweating. No joke. Lol

This early in the season take the long view that we don’t have to win every game.

I missed it. Why were you attacked?

I'm exactly the same way and I don't know why. Can handle it at the RAC, can't handle it on TV for some reason. Maybe because I feel like we can all have an impact at the RAC? I have no idea.
Makes no sense of course because I’m not actually playing but I feel the exact same way. Feel powerless watching a road game on tv.

I think part of the explanation is that when watching the game in person, you feel you have a bit of an effect on the outcome.

Also, at JMA, there is a very high probability that we will win. We’ve won all but one or two games over the last 2+ seasons. But when on the road and watching on tv, even if we are playing well, there is an expectation that we will ultimately lose (at least historically) which causes anxiety during the game.

I think when we are at the game we are each a small part of the atmosphere (some more loudly than others). It's stupid, I know, but when youre watching on TV you feel like you have no way to contribute

Speak for yourself. I feel like I can help even when I'm watching on tape delay. The universe karma transcends space time

No substitute for being there in the area, no doubt. I also tape every game in case this old body nods off, lol. Even with that I'll switch to other programing and check in and out of games televised.
