The smoke is white. The committee has spoken.

I know there is a lot of sentiment against Penn State on this board (and I'm primarily a Northwestern fan by the way), but I think this builds momentum for an eight-team playoff. What this says is that you don't put the champion of what generally is acknowledged as the best football league this season (or at least one of the two top leagues) into the playoff. With regard to Washington, it also means that OOC schedule essentially was meaningless.

Ohio state doesn't make the playoffs if they replace Oklahoma with Youngstown state. Washington rocked every nonconference opponent they played.

Yes, but (and I mean no great offense to you guys), but what Washington rocked was one of the weakest OOC schedules in the country. They beat a team with the worst record in the B1G and two nonentities.

Again someone wrote on twitter when Washington signed the series with RU they went 9-4 in 2012. The teams were very equal. I remember in 2006 when RU smoked Illinois people from Illinois said when we signed the series RU was really bad and then Ray Rice and Leonard showed up for RU.

Agree with sentiment for 8 team playoff, but disagree about Washington and OOC being meaningless. Lee Corso make a statement yesterday about how the rules changed for tOSU-in year 1, winning conference championship was important, in year 3 it is not so important--but nobody can deny tOSU's record.
If you wanted to use the head to head argument, how does it work?
1. PSU beat tOSU, so PSU is in?
2. But wait-PSU lost to UM, so UM is in?
3. Oh, but wait, the refs and tOSU beat UM, so the refs should get in?

Did not see/hear reasoning, but UW is a 1 loss team and a conference champion. PSU is a 2 loss team and a conference champion. Yes, they lost to Pitt, who also beat Clemson, but why should UW be penalized for scheduling RU, who had a pretty strong record and is a P5 team from the strongest conference in football this year? Arguments could be made for each team. Surprised Clemson went to #2, who plays in a weak ACC conference. If anything, they could have been #3 or 4.

Penn state lost to a fringe top 25 team and lost by 39(!) to Michigan. Washington spanked Colorado, Stanford and Washington state and beat Utah. Their only loss was to a top 10 team. ESPN just needed to hype someone to build some drama.

WRONG!! What it means is if you only lose 1 game and you beat the #9 team in the country in the conference championship 41-10 you don't get screwed by the committee.

Michigan also lost to two teams beaten by Penn State, an Iowa team that Penn State routed (and that wasn't even in the top 25) and Ohio State. They had as many losses as Penn State and didn't win either their division or league championship.

A No. 9 team that was missing its most dynamic offensive player for almost the entire game. It would have been like Penn State playing Wisconsin without McSorley.

Sorry, but how did RU have a "pretty strong record?"

Yawn. The Lion guy is going to be very busy today trolling the boards of every fanbase that is elated with leaving Penn State out--that would be EVERY fanbase except for PSU. YOU ARE REVILED! Enjoy your victory this year, and stay classy.

Yes, but the playoff committee is considering records from this year, not from when the game was schedule four years ago.

Understood, but saw a tweet about Chris Petersen referring to the fact that he and his team had nothing to do with THIS years opponents. Weak argument, but it's not like he scheduled the cupcakes.

Clemson??Wow...barely beat VT yesterday??
Not sure how this relates to my post, which was about RU's record in 2012 when we scheduled UW.

They were 2-1 against top 10 teams, beat a conference champion OOC and beat OSU head-to-head. I think a good case could be made for them over Washington.
Oh please. So did OSU so you can't use that as logic to be in over OSU. In fact, OSU beat the champion of the Big XII and PSU beat the champion of the AAC. Congrats to them

I just think the ACC is getting too much juice from their sponsor in the whole Top25....if their was 8 teams...maybe??

OSU made history today (per their site) with being the first team to not have won the conference championship and still make the playoffs...maybe next time Nits.
