Newly released data from Rutgers University illustrates how much the largest university in the state pays its employees.
The data takes into account employees from all three of the university's main campuses — New Brunswick, Newark and Camden — but the highest paid employees are from either New Brunswick, Newark or working off campus.
Of the employees, 17 have earned more than $1 million in compensation; none of those have a base pay of more than $1 million, however. For many of the highest-paid, compensation resulted from pass-throughs for practicing medicine, such as insurance money for doctors or surgeons, which does not come from taxpayers.
