If we win today folks no question we are in the Top 25 come Monday. This has NEVER HAPPENED since I started following Rutgers hoops in Wenzel’s first year.

Was born in 73 but did not become an RU fan until later.
Ok I’ll play: born in ‘67 but became a fan in ‘84 my senior year in High School. Enrolled in ‘85. Suffered through ListlessLittlepage until the Bobsicles showed up. At least I got to end my stay On The Banks with that! Oh, and at least I also got to go to NCAA tourneys with Coach Gretzky and Wicks and Sticks!

Realistically I know we probably won't end the season ranked but I'd just love to see that number by our name once. Godspeed gentlemen.

I think today is also the day to see if it truly is a new Rutgers. Historically, we lay an egg today. Let’s see what the boys got.

I think this is version 5.0....

Wisconsin was "is RU for real 1.0

Seton Hall was "is RU for real 2.0

road game without Geo was "is RU for real version 3.0

beating a ranked opponent (2.0) "is RU for real version 4.0 (Advanced stage of playing a bad 1st half and trailing, only to win by double digits)

beating a quality opponent on the road (2.0) "is RU for real version 5.0

Are we moving the goalposts so fast that I should leave it on the flatbed, until we are certain we should stop moving things??

Jumping from not even in the "also receiving votes" to the top 25 is a hell of a leap. Don't know if the pollsters are ready to do that. After all, we are Rutgers :YesNo

Nailed it. Time to continue to skip steps in the build ...with a win today

Disagree with your assessment. I think Nebraska was 1.0 and Penn State was 2.0. But this is the third big step.

Feinstein has always been a quality sports writer.

Solid writer but always has an RU axe to grind. He’s gone after Greg and RU (see Navy game and BS story about running through team salute or something or other), Pernetti at CBS Sports, Coach Rice/ Ray Rice, RU not worthy of B10/ moving down levels. All these RU/NJ bitchfests I associate with Feinstein.

Good article though. At least he admits eating some crow.

GO RU

hope we don't but if we do lose today there will be unfair band wagon jumping when in fact the real important ranking will be where we stand at end of year--we have many games to get there or to wipe out taste of a bad lost which the Ill game will not be

I would be careful with projecting us as locks for top 25, have to see what other schools are doing....we could replace Penn State but remember we havent received any votes previously.

Hard to believe - prior to the formation of the Big East - RU was the preeminent program in the North East. Games on PBS locally - remember this was well prior to ESPN and big time sports media.

a win today puts us totally in the a different space....its not moving the goalposts per se its just skipping steps. A loss today isnt a big deal although losing by 20 would be disappointing but winning today has enormous benefits. Its certainly not a miss win game at all though
If we to continue on current trajectory - it is

If we win this game, we'll be all alone in second place in the B1G, toughest basketball conference in the land this year. Can't see us not being ranked under those circumstances.

It would be a complete joke if we aren't ranked if we win this game

I don't believe there's a chance to leap 15 schools into the Top 25, you have to remove teams from the 25 to get there.

I will be happy with a win and not in the Top 25....these things solve themselves over an extended period of time. I would rather finish in the Top half of the B1G vs worrying about the Top 25.

The goal isn't to be ranked this week, it's to be better in February vs January.

Just doing a check... PSU lost to us. Arizona lost to top 10 Oregon. Who else? If SHU wins today they would be ranked in both polls. Memphis is going to drop out. Does Virginia drop out or does their name keep them barely in the top 25? Tex Tech lost to #4 Baylor and plays at #17 WVU...might stay in if they win, fall out if they lose. There should be a couple spots open this week. Can we get the 80 or so votes to get in.

The thing with the top 25 poll is once you get in you tend to hang around either inside or just outside the rest of year. Its breaking through and getting recognition that is the hard thing. Thats why you see bloated teams like Virginia ranked even though they suck. Even Iowa was 26 in the AP last week. The loss to Nebby will keep them out even though they beat Maryland.

should RU get ranked, its going to put an extra dollop of pressure this week with two home games. I would actually rather have them just outside the radar. The key thing going forward not talked about here is how this team deals with being in the spotlight and being the hunted. RU does very well as the hunter but guess what no matter what happens today. RU is the hunted for the games vs Indiana and Minnesota.

I thought this was another AC thread but this is something I can get behind.
