I was saying this about 6 months ago. How is RU going to keep throwing $ at a FB program that doesn’t have a chance.
Well , there are still posters here who are good with it , while thinking our pockets are as deep as some of those others buying titles . And most are aware buying players has always occurred.

Have a hard time understanding why some people get so upset about player movement and NIL funding. Many of the same people who are vehemently against government regulations which stifle opportunity, money, greed, capitalism......want to regulate and stifle opportunity, money, greed, capitalism for college athletes simply because it might interfere with their entertainment expectations. Sounds like hypocisy to me.

Also get a kick out of the people constantly threatening to "quit" following these sports. As if they would be able to suddenly turn off emotions and rooting interests should RU make a run to the Final 4. LoL.
It's simple. We watch sports for entertainment, not to make money, not to make a living. It's really just that simple. You're overthinking it and trying to create false equivalences and straw man arguments.

Your mom's. Actually, I don't have a specific proposal. But not having put much thought into it, I think a player's union where the individual player's NIL money, and also some league/TV money make sense to me.
What are you 12?
My Mom's ?😂😂😂
You're the guy the ignore button is for

I dont think its madness. College's are making a killing from these players. They are well deserved...
its like any job you have. how much value do you bring to the company?
If no colleges are making money off them, then give them scholarships and no more NIL but that's not the case...
But even if you are ok with the crazy money there are no rules like there are in the pros locking athletes into their commitments, no caps to ensure fair competition in big and small leagues and markets. So every year it is a free-for-all of free agency. these are things that would destroy even a league like the NBA. I'm all for players getting a piece of the pie, but the current NCAA inaction and chaos is not good for the game.

I am reasonably sure that the point he was trying to make was that a booster of program A won't want his money being spread to be used to buy players for other teams, and it seems like a legitimate gripe on the booster's part...
I hear what you are saying. I think however that if it's done by a player's union, and it's the player's money, and it's some, not all, of the money being spread around, the boosters won't have much to say about it. In most pro leagues it's the players that are insisting that money get kicked in for the lowest paid players. So I'm talking about measures to close the gap, not eliminate the gap. I wonder why there are no "boosters" in the NFL or NBA willing to pay players on the side over the salary cap? Is it just the dollars are so high that that the booster money doesn't matter? Or is it that the other teams wouldn't stand for it and would sue or prosecute?

Huh? Perhaps you did not understand the post. YOU....watch sports for entertainment...like the rest of us. In a capitalist and free society, why would someone who lives along those lines be against the players who entertain them to have any restrictions in earning what they can get on the open market in NIL? Sounds like you may want capitalism for yourself and socialism for the college athletes who entertain you.

NBA is already a non starter for me.
$0 is spent by me on that hot garbage.

NCAA is headed down that road with NIL insanity.

A word of advice to all involved. If you're interested in honey, don't go killing the bees. Folks like me vote with their wallets. Play stupid games and you win stupid prizes.

Haha nah, youre trying too hard here.

Would pro sports be more entertaining if every player was on a 1 year deal there was no salary cap?

You're really not the brightest bulb are you? Pro Sports have unions and collectively bargained agreements between players and management that govern things like the caps and salary length. Are you advocating for a union for college athletes? I guess you are a socialist after all.

I'm also not really sure why some think the NCAA would have problems with this rule? It's a limit on eligibility, not compensation. If they can't have a rule like this then can they even limit people to 4 years?
This is something that I have also been thinking about. Any day now, I fully expect a player's advocate to argue that any student of a school is legally entitled to play for that school's teams indefinitely. And given the current climate, where player's advocates are winning the day, I feel like that notion would not be easily dismissed.

Now that college players can be paid, and some don't have the ability to move to higher levels, there would be motivation on their part to play permanently for the highest bidding college.

It would further cement the destiny of NCAA sports as a professional minor league...

Haha youre trying way too hard here again.

Maybe these kids shouldnt get free tuition, room, board, medical, training, coaching? Im not trying to play stupid games though. Youre trying too hard.

Why not?
It's been long established "they are already getting paid with a scholarship."

Well now the debate is about compensation level. Just because they didn't receive a raise for decades doesn't mean they shouldn't have been getting additional compensation along the way.

Followed me here from the football board. Stalker or just triggered?
Stay Mad GIF

i mean, we kinda are seeing what these players "deserve" on the market though right. at least how much big money boosters think they deserve for the value they give to the teams they're bankrolling.
Very good point. And as time goes on, the market will adjust one way or another based upon results--just like any other market investment

I think that’s true when it comes to incoming frosh. They are unknown commodities whose worth is entirely predicated on hype. At some point, even those with money to burn are going to become more resistant to shell out the money because more often than not frosh just aren’t impact players worthy of 7 figures.

Transfers are different and really so to are retention NIL deals. Not hearing about what boosters are paying to keep kids out of the portal. At some point nobody will go to the NBA until after college. Why leave if you can make millions in school? So at some point something has to give.
