Tyson Acuff - incoming transfer

Is the assumption that freshman are fully baked and don't ever work in the offseason to get better at anything?

Obviously not.
The assumption is that ONLY our players work in thr off season to get better at anything and everyone else stagnated.

Well, except players who transfer out like GG.

Of course JMike could improve.
But to go into the season expecting it or relying on it (similar to expecting GG would have been better and should have been promised an increased role) isn't a great strategy.

JMike had as good a shooting percentage as Hyatt, and a better shooting percentage than Simpson, Noah, and Gavin.

He shot poorly from the foul line and from the arc (22%) but he only took one 3-pointer per game, so his long-range shots didn’t hurt us much at all.

Contrast that with Hyatt who took 5 3-pointers per game and only made 31%, Gavin who took 3 shots from deep per game and made only 27%, and Mawot who took 3 per game and only made 24%.

And other than Mag nobody played tougher on ball defense than JMike, who was also a very good rebounder.

I believe JMike can improve to a serviceable 30% from 3-point range and 65% from the charity stripe. If that’s the case, then along with his stellar D and rebounding, he will have a very productive sophomore season for us.

JMike showed a lot of improvement and had many efficient shooting games down the stretch. I'm sure he will be working on his 3 ball this off season. If he can at least get up in the 30's, he will play since he does play great D and hustles. We don't need him to score. Need players like that. There is only 1 ball out there on the court. He just can't be a liability on offense which I don't see him as being

JMike can control his own destiny by earning a lot of PT by being better on offense. If he isn't his PT could be based on how good the others are on offense which could allow a guard slot that is bad offensively.

Let's not sugarcoat what JaMike was on offense his freshman year. He was really bad in almost all facets of offense. However he was very valuable on the other side of the court.

A little sugarcoating seems warranted, especially since, as a true freshman, JMike outplayed two 5-year players on both ends of the court.

JMike was a pleasant surprise (one of only two, along with Jeremiah) but this says more about how absolutely terrible our two 5-year players were than anything else.
