UConn

Has a real coach who isn’t fleecing his university and fooling his fan base.

Yet come Monday we will be back to thumbing our noses at that program. And I can’t wait to hear the rebuild excuses here during their bowl game.
I mentioned this in the games thread. They’re not guaranteed a bowl yet. Good job by Mora though in year 1. Didn’t think they would beat Liberty today. Good season and I leave it at that.

Lol he's going to a real coaching job after the season. Colorado was asking to interview him BEFORE getting Connie to bowl eligibility. Who's to say other B1G or ACC jobs like Georgia Tech or Nebraska or Louisville don't do the same?

He has certainly turned around a really, really bad program to respectability. How high he can take them is another question. But Massey Composite and other rankings might soon put them higher than us so our Schiano fans might want to consider what that means.

They both beat AP ranked teams today.

UConn beat #19 Liberty
BC beat #17 (CFP 16) NC St on the road
So Boston College beat a far better team than we've beaten in 3 years of Schiano v2.0, and even really bad teams can sometimes beat ranked teams. Yet Schiano can never upset anyone in such a big manner.

Greg Schiano 2.0 has been underwhelming to say the least, but I wouldn't wish Jim Mora on my worst enemy. He hasn't beaten anybody and lost to Ball State and Utah State.
Those teams would give us a real test. Not so sure we would beat them with our offense

We would be favored by two touchdowns in a game against UConn, not that that means anything. Another stupid post by you.

North Carolina St is good but starting a frosh who had 3 turnovers in 2nd half.
I didn’t see the game but figured it might be something like that if they lost. Last 1.5 game he’s done well…3TDs in both games, one a comeback on VT. Thought he might show some freshman mistakes sooner or later.

It is an AAC program. We were decent in the Big East. The Big Ten is a different beast.

Congrats they have 1 not horrible year beating little sisters of the poor and their giant upset, Liberty, after being the dead last joke of College football the last 2 years. Yea I want to switch spots with them. Morons
2006 Rutgers finished ranked 12th. Georgia was #23. Do you think they wanted to switch spots with us.
Rutgers football will have more success the next 10 years than UConn fans could ever dream of

Depends on how you define "success"

Dave…when Schiano was hired, did you also say we’d have more success in three years ? And did you also say more success this year ?

When will you move the window to 20 years ?

Sounds like Yukon has some new fans in this thread.

I know it's difficult to find, so here's the link to their football board:

RU has beaten a few teams before they became Top 25 … Indy and Syracuse both ranked this year … part of it is timing.

This why I said in the "5000 days" thread that Top-25 wins us a crap stat.

It should be measured by end of year ranking.

Of course some argued back (mostly to defend beating "#2" USF in 2007).

As you say, we could beat an unranked team in week 1. They go undefeated rest of way and win championship. It wouldn't count as a Top 25 win.

I know we're not good and all pissed we blew another winnable game, but this is quite the dramatic post. Don't be like @Shelby65 nobody should try to emulate him, you're better than that and your past posting proves it.

Flavor of the day info.
But I must say UConn is doing better that it has been for a couple of years.
Beating Liberty should be considered an accomplishment and Mora deserves all the credit in the world for improving UConn.
Jealousy isn't my forte like some other programs fans are about B1G Rutgers.
Even when the Scarlet Knights aren't setting the world on fire, many fans of old BE opponents are jealous of them

Nick….has a preseason unranked team ever won the NC ? Your scenario isn’t remotely likely re: Rutgers or anyone else. I agree ranked wins isn’t perfect but is still a good measure of significant wins.

So when is the last time we beat a team that finished the season ranked ?

So when is the last time we beat a team that finished the season ranked ?

I have no idea.
It has nothing to do with pro/con Rutgers/Schiano.

I just always thought it was dumb.
In all sports.
Giants beat Titans early.
Everyone was shitting on Tennessee preseason and pumping up the Colts at the time.
Well a win over Tennessee seems a lot more impressive now than a win over the Colts.

Only using end of season rankings isn't perfect (injuries could derail a season after you play).

Everyone agrees early and mid season rankings are questionable at best.
There's people saying Liberty was a "fake ranked team" to denigrate the UConn win.

Nick … timing of losses affect end of season ranking too. Early losses matter less. In fact, no matter when the ranking, it’s still just a snapshot.

But nevermind our opponents for a moment. Was our peak 2006 ranking legit ? Or was that phony too ?

Rankings do mean something, no matter when. It’s just one measure.
