Until someone else better is presented, I FULLY endorse Herb Sendek as the next RU hoops coach

I want Herb first but I am okay with Danny as well. Either or..very solid choices who each bring their own strength. I dont see how anyone can argue with either of them
Not really thrilled about Danny being hired, but he does have some qualifications that make it look like he can be successful at Rutgers.
Every candidate has faults and it might be I am looking too hard at what I see as Danny's faults compared to someone like Sendek's .
Herb has some of his own , but I see him as the shortest route to respectability, but not good enough to make RU one of the top B1G programs.

Herb was something like 8 - 38 against Duke and UNC when he was at NC State. And as I recall, he wasn't exactly a dynamic personality, which did not serve him well in recruiting or in dealing with the press. The NY/NJ media would chew him up, not to mention UNC homer, Politi.

Won? At NC State? Ok. But not enough as I recall. He'll do if our aspirations are to be a mid-level program, sure. But if we're hitting the reset button, let's be a bit more ambitious.

Who could we get with our facilities and current financials?

He led to them to the NCAA's five straight years, we have not gone since 1993.

You can't let Steve Politi or any media member be a consideration in hiring the right coach.

It's not meant to be an identical analogy by any means, but a Sendek-type hire could be similar to when the Mets brought in Terry Collins. There were bigger names they could have pursued, but he was an older, seasoned guy who was willing to take on the job and bring the team back to a reasonable level of respectability. I guess if you want to take it really further, Danny Hurley is equal to the Wally Backman that some fans long for.

Wonder how much $ that immediate buzz that Danny coming in equals to us? Other than that can't figure out a reason how you can go after Sendek 1st, 2nd and 3rd considering their resumes and more importantly where our program is at. We need the proven thing at this point - enough said.

I think NJ connections are overated. Kids want to play for a winner. They want someonr to help them make it to the show. If you really need NJ connections, hire assistants for that.

Granted, Hurley is special in that his father has pull...Danny's been successful in NJ...but we need a coach. I'm not sure DH is good enough. Sendek is proven that he is.

My issue with Sendek is he did not recent well here at ASU at all.

Harden was a package deal w his high school coach so take that for what it's worth. Rumor was he didn't play well w the Pump brothers which in the Western part of this country is a death sentence.

He had a window when Arizona went thru the mess w Olsen leaving and Russ Pennell taking over but he didn't take advantage. Once Sean Miller got there it was over.

It's been a long time since he was back East but maybe he can get plugged back into the recruiting world.

I doubt this could happen, but I'd see if Mick Cronin would listen.

he may be ready to jump from the AAC to the B1G if he gets the facility improvements in 1-2 years and enough money for asst. Coach salaries. This would be a homerun hire.

But, he was born in Cincy and graduated from Cincy.
