Update: Gill and Mulcahy take down Ranney!

Ismael Massoud fell 20 spots in the new rankings. Wonder what's up with that. He's played well AFAIK.
Just speaking for myself, I think Massoud has played okay. I also think we had him too high at No. 102. Since our previous update several kids who were ranked below him at 102 have been terrific. One kid in Utah, that was unranked, debuted at No. 105 (I think, I'm already working on class of 2021). I watched him for two games last weekend and he earned that debut. Some other kids just moved up like the Braun kid in Kansas who went from No. 112 to No. 94. When things like that happens other kids slide down.

I respect your opinions, but the idea that Whitney from Roselle Catholic, and the two Rainney kids are 5 stars and all top-13 in the country, while Mulcahy is a 3 star and below Battle from Trenton as well... it's just not holding up to how recent performances and games have gone. You know more than I do, but you see what you see...

Some of it is surely about projection. If you ran all those guys through a series of drills I'm guessing Mulcahy would grade out as the least athletic. Lewis and Antoine at least have hopes of being one-and-dones. I can't imagine any scenario in which Mulcahy is. So there's that.

Production at high school is not a 1-to-1 translation to production at college. Look at the backup PG on Michigan State, Foster Loyer. He was Michigan's Mr. Basketball and is up there on the state all-time points list. Now for the Spartans he's just a guy.

Ultimately none of it truly matters. Hell, Rutgers is better off getting Mulcahy for four years than Lewis or Antoine for one.

Same page. Next year is the year.
Already planning on betting the over next year on wins

If Thiam is really unwell then he should sit and rest until he is better bc playing less than 100% is not working out. It was originally reported he had the flu but that was a month ago or so now so it has to be something else... If not he flu excuse is BS. Hope he gets well. Even at full strength he's not a very dynamic player though. He's a catch and shoot 3 point shooter only on offense and we are adding player after player to the roster who can do more with the ball in their hand

I agree that Mulcahy will enjoy a great 4 year career here, and I'd rather that than a 1 and done. That said, Lewis didn't look that much more athletic yesterday. Not to play into the stereotype bullshit, but it does happen. Kevin Huerter wasn't considered an NBA prospect until he went to the combine and tested out as more athletic than everyone. No one expects that from a ginger.

Kevin Huerter wasn't considered an NBA prospect until he went to the combine and was able to show the scouts all of the things he could do that Mark Turgeon's offense didn't allow him to do. No one expects that from a ginger.
One of Turgeon's recurring post game press conference quotes about Huerter was "I have to figure out a way to get Kevin the ball more often." That was said after almost every Maryland loss and infuriated the fan base because they wondered why he didn't get more touches. Huerter was always very athletic. He was also Ranked No. 59 in the final class of 2016 Rivals 150 so it is not too surprising he is in the NBA.

Lol... good quote insertion.

You're a F'ing moron. This team has been hurt by transfers and lack of continuity for years, and stopping that trend will help the team. And you're not a dick for your truth telling, you're a dick and P.O.S. for being a dick and peice of shit.
I'm the moron? You're the one who thinks losing thiam would hurt our team in any way, shape or form. And it would not. At all. Not one bit. Keeping thiam when there are upgrades available hurts us because he offers little in the way of offense and adds a bit of defense..easily replaceable. Again, if he won't shoot and won't take open shots, explain to me how he isn't a liability and what he adds for us? He wasn't hurt all year. He was just as poor early in the year vs the nobody teams.

I'm glad you can have a conversation based on facts instead of resorting to schoolyard name calling though. Really makes you look bright and gets your point across. It was hard to respond given how little substance your post had.

Sorry, but you come across as a real jerk in how you talk about our guys.

Low class fan.
You should root for an SEC school.

And the way you went from all in (and I mean ALL IN) on Ash to trashing him - just weird.

How did you come up with your username?

Antoine cant hold mulcahy’s jock. Whitney didnt impress me that much either. Scottie lewis is legit. Mulcahy is grossly overrated. But i kinda like it because its clear it puts a chip on his shoulder

Two things.

1) every team is america has at least 1-2 kids transfer every year, this isnt unique to Rutgers

2) I dont like the way @AshCatchEm chooses his words but truth is issa doesnt have a role on this team next year. With that said, Issa is one of the kindest nicest kids youll ever meet and I feel terrible for him because the kids loves basketball but hes just not cut out for it at this level

I dont think that Issa’s role on the team next year is the issue. He needs to grow greatly to be significant. But you can not equate that basketball reality with ashcatcher’s posts. They sicken me and, imho, he should be kicked off the board.

I also mainly dont like the way he chooses his words. Also, given how much Issa loves Rutgers, the kid might be one of the best 10th through 13th men as a senior that anyone has ever had on their team. No one has a 13 man rotation, we still have an open scholly for next year, and running anyone off given our talent level and open spots seems stupid.

At some point the admins have to say no, these is not virtual basketball players in a video game; they’re student-athletes at Rutgers University, and if you don’t have enough maturity and decency to understand that, you are out.

Pike would never run Issa off the team. As mentioned already, he is a great kid, a hard worker and was one of the first guys to buy in. He is the type of kid we should all be happy plays at RU. Whether he earns a lot of minutes or not is not relevant, but he has the ability to be a really solid contributor as a defender with his length.

SIAP, but even if it was, this article is good enough to post twice, lol. Nice job by Gill, Mulcahy and the writer. Nice to see our guy holding his own against and maybe even outplaying a 5-star recruit. Excited to have him, Geo and Young all playing next year. Not enough minutes for everyone, but that's what happens when talent is upgraded.

At some point in time, you have to realize we are allowed to be critical of our own players. Ban me for what? Saying that thiam is gonna ride the bench if he stays here (which, barring a miracle, is exactly what will happen) and I would rather use the scholarship elsewhere? Get over yourself. I'm not the one who was going on an explitive filled tirade in this thread.

Let me say it once more for the hard of hearing. Thiam is a weakness on our roster, and my hope is he gets replaced this off-season. If you can't handle that, you probably shouldn't be on a fan message board.

Critical - okay.

But you act like a child (or an ignorant inbred from SEC country) and are way over the top and insulting in many of your posts.

And when you do that do one of our players who by all accounts is a great kid and all in on helping the team (and especially when he hasn’t been healthy per multiple accounts), it is way over the line.

Find one person who agrees with your “style.”

Take a hike.

You're a weakness in the gene pool.

Here let's attempt talking some actually basketball. How about you lay out the qualities that make thiam an asset to next year's team which is supposed to be a NIT/bubble hopeful.

Let me begin. He brings above average defense to the table. Senior leadership and knowing what pikiell expects. Now your turn..what else?

Look just above at my sentence beginning with "At some point." That's the reason I think you you should be banned, Snowflake.

We get it, and I agree with you. It's not the message, it's the messenger.

I can’t believe there is another pissing contest over Issa thiam

Real nice kid...root for him like everyone else on the team

It’s clear that he has been passed on the depth chart and pecking order by younger players who are earning there playing time

This is not gojng to be the first guy that this happens to

I have full confidence that pike will make him earn any and all playing time ...that’s what it is about

And if thiam does...he will have a role on the court

It’s that simple

Of course it’s not about Issa. he will or won’t play as he deserves. It’s about how we talk about any Rutgers player.

I never overly criticize guys doing their and working hard for the team.

I don't support what Ash says or how he says it..... but, I remember how this board (and many posters in this thread) ripped Souf.Mensah to shreds.last year.

You guys can't have it both ways.

We can get back to Mulcahy.....we should slow down and see how it goes. He is a very good player and I looking forward to seeing him next year.........but High School is very different. He is mostly playing his games against teams with zero P5 players on the opposing teams....Next year he will be going against all P5 players in the Big 10 that play great Team Defense and it will be a lot tougher than going against Raney....even with Lewis and Antoine on the team.

Mulcahy will be between Baker and Mathis production levels for their respective frosh seasons and Harper Jr so far this year.

Lewis drew the assignment on him. Lewis is a projected 1st round pick in the 2020 draft. Paul isnt gonna face many guys that good in his career

Mulchahy had what...13 and 8, which is very good for a.PG. It's not like he dropped 25 on Lewis and dominated him or.scored at will. He had 4 FGs. Scott Lewis had 18.

The best thing is his team won and he made the clutch FTs to seal the victory and he found his teammates for points. Being directly involved in half the team points is great to see.

Individual matchups are great, but, I am talking about better team defense in college. In high school, if a 6'5 guard beats his man off the dribble he is probably going to the rim against guys the same size....in college, when you go to the rim it's against guys 6'9 or taller with long wingspans, maybe a 7 footer........totally different than HS.

Bro - this kid is already in your head. That awkward area. How bout this. 2 future lottery picks asked off of him.
Your jealousy is real. Don’t let the blue-Eyes fool you. Kid was bred differently. Bye.

WTF....lol. Now you are just being stupid. Actually, idiotic and immature. Obviously, you can't have a serious discussion.

I'm a Rutgers fan, I hope he is All Big 10 and Rutgers gets to the dance with him and the rest of the team.

I’m sure I criticized Souf. How harshly, don’t know. He was not a B1G player. And Issa’s play has definitely not been deserving of minutes. Now, you’ve read Ash’s posts and you either are or are not fine with them. I’ve called no one else out for their criticism of play.
