Ed Manetta,once St. John's AD and now a consultant spoke with me in June about getting that game done at the new UBS Arena in December,2023. I met with Steve and he was enthusiastic. I met with Danny and Tom Moore last week and they told me that UConn has one Power 5 opening and is also interested. Manetta feels that the game would draw upwards of 12000. He is speaking with Moore this week and we might get it. I want it and both fanbases should as well.Many great ties between the teams and coaching staffs.

The game sounds great. Says it's located in some place called Long Island. Is that in South Jersey?

I don’t get the benefit as a fan and monetarily to play neutral games.

It's only easier and cheaper if you reside in State College.
Take a train to NY Penn Station then hop on the LIRR to Elmont Station/UBS Arena. It's not that hard.

Does the recruitment of Connecticut native Gavin Griffith by Rutgers figure into both teams all of a sudden thinking this game is a good idea?
From grand central station. 1 is half a mile away and a special events platform is at Belmont, for which there is one train in and one out.
So not ideal for us in NJ.
Doesn't LIRR go out of Penn?
As a one-off this is fine I guess. Both fan based would travel pretty decently I think depending on date/time

Let's schedule a game at the most inconvenient place to get to in the tri-state area for both fan bases. Great idea. MSG is one thing. Shlepping out to Queens or Long Island or whatever they consider to play in the Islanders hockey arena.
I was going to ask if anyone had been there yet from Jersey. How was the arena itself?

Our fans love to complain about everything.
Last couple of years it has been OOC stinks, we need better games, road or neutral games etc.
Now we potentially are trying to schedule one that ticks all the boxes plus is a neutral court that is conceivable for many of our fans to get to for a game and we complain.

I really don't either. I normally eat or tailgate before and maybe get a beer or water while inside. But sometimes it's good to ask if something stands out like good or bad sight lines, acoustics, etc. That location is definitely a deterrent to me. I'd be more likely to go to Brooklyn, but MSG would be best.
Home and home with Uconn - one at UBS and one at MSG. Sounds like the answer to me.

If UBS is/was the Nassau Coliseum, that would be a nightmare commute for both fan bases. I worked at Hofstra for 25 years. It's just a bit down the Hempstead Turnpike from the campus but I never once attended an event there.

MSG makes much more sense - both fan bases have long histories of attending games there. Long Island is a sports media vacuum and is not a college sports region.

Cry me a River. I live on LI - about 25 minutes past UBS, have football season tickets (since 99!) and make it to plenty of games.
RU has 570,000 alumni including a ton in Brkln/Queens/LI/Manhattan.
The Football program has tapped into LI scene with Holy Trinity and RU hoops would do well to play in LI Lutheran’s backyard (#12 team in country).
I don’t want to anything to do with the Hurleys. Play Princeton at Jadwin instead. To hell with it.
Guys - for those that live in NJ this is an easy commute albeit it may take awhile due to traffic. . Belt parkway to cross island parkway or GWB to Whitestone or throgs neck bridge to cross island parkway. I also have been to UBS for a hockey game and it’s a beautiful arena. I’d love for game to be at msg but if it’s at UBS, I ll be there.
If one uses google maps it shows 2.5 hours from Metuchen to UBS Arena (with over an hour of that from Penn Station to UBS Arena), so either google is wrong or the UBS website is blowing smoke. I know it takes an hour from my house (10 minutes of walking + ~50 minutes on the NEC train), so at least 2 hours seems right, overall. On a good day, driving would take an hour, but I know that drive and it can easily take 2 hours with traffic. MSG would be way better for most in NJ - and I'd rather just do a home and home, so we get a game at the RAC, but I do like the idea of playing UConn.
Steve is never going to Gampel and Danny never to the RAC. Zero chance.The Garden is very expensive. Manetta is hooked in with UBS. If it happens,it will be a one off at UBS. On another note,the Michigan State contract was finally signed yesterday and Garden tickets will be on sale soon.
Why is that, though? We do home and home with B1G teams, obviously, and selected other P6 teams (SHU) and we participate in league "challenges" which alternate home/away games.
And why is MSG being so expensive an issue for RU/UConn, but not RU/MSU - is it a function of some other factor (like contractual elements for being part of the B1G)? It's not that I don't believe you - just trying to understand the rationale. And assuming MSG is out and home/home is out, UBS is still a good neutral court site and UConn a good opponent, so why not - I'd likely go. Great to hear about the MSU game at MSG.
The big ten pays for MSG for Super Saturday. RU never would have agreed to it if they had to pay for MSG every other year
Once B1G goes to 22 conference games, or more when they add more teams, it doesn't make sense to play Uconn. But it would be fun for a year, especially after hearing about the scrimmage last year.

I'm in Nassau County although I have an apartment in nyc I'm usually on the island and like you I make all the ru games-- football and basketball. In addition my grand children play hs sports in Bergen County. I've got to say lately the ride back and forth has gotten much worse -- on a Friday it could literally take over 3 hours. As for UBS the belt and cross island really suck traffic wise. Hell it's becoming a pain to just get off the grand central parkway to the ubs cross island exit even if there's not an event at ubs. The typical complaining RU fans will go ballistic traveling to UbS. Even by he.licopter

It's one of my life rules to avoid Long Island at all costs, but I might make an exception for this.
