Upon Further Review...

Flood made a huge mistake with Barnwell. Sometimes it gets you fired; sometimes you get another chance. My guess is that this saga is far from over. I would prefer that IF Flood is to be fired that it happen today. The local media will feed the national media and they will treat it like a full fledged holocaust. We will suffer and maybe it will die down and coach will survive. I do think he is a decent person. Maybe the recent events will shape him into a better coach and mentor. Maybe they will destroy him.

But to those loyal sons who criticized the president and AD for not sticking up for Flood during the investigation, this is why they were silent.

How is it on the university? They can train him all they want...he can choose to ignore it (which he did).

He chose not to attend, which is a lot different than attending and not listening to or reading the materials. Maybe these were not mandatory sessions at all. But if they were, why would they allow him to blow off mandatory training sessions or not penalize him for it or compel his attendance? The way things appear in this report, it may be on Flood because there may be no system in place at Rutgers to compel coaches to attend these trainings or monitor their attendance. But If I am their Interim VP of Risk and Compliance, I going to want mandatory training that monitors their attendance and penalizes employees for not attending mandatory training if they are not doing it now, especially in light of this incident. Still, not being up on all the critical rules and regulations that affect your job is an error in misjudgement and incompetence on Flood's part.

I'm sorry, but I don't get where all the charity work comes into the decision making at all.

We all agree HCKF is probably a great guy. I'm sure we'd all love him as a neighbor.

But the series of events laid out in the report shouldn't be mitigated with how much charity work he does.

Besides desperation and lack of clear thinking, he was clearly trying to cover his tracks--and not very well. I mean, this is like a plot out of a bad spy novel.

And if our self esteem can't get any lower, our own head coach knows he won't be recognized 5 miles from campus.

Oh bullshit. Kyle Flood is absolutely a high character guy, despite this screw up.

You're crazy if you don't recognize that.

Grow up.

That last line...I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

FHJ was told not to go to a baseball game by pernetti. He did and was eventually fired for it. KF in the same boat but this is a bit more severe.

Wasn't FHJ in disguise or otherwise trying not to make himself look recognizable or went by a different name when he was at that baseball game?

Don't agree that he's gone after the suspension. He's still allowed to coach practice and if they were gonna sever ties after the three games, wouldn't they suspend him completely from the program for those three weeks?

IMO your AD is smoked first and KF hangs around til new AD is in place and he gets his walking papers from new AD. It's all a big business. Takes the fun out of it sometimes.

Flood lied about knowing the rule and tried to circumvent the rule by sending secret emails and having a clandestine meeting at another university. I'm searching for the high character part...

I'm not saying that what he did isn't a screw up....but in three years, the guy has been squeaky clean....and people like you all of a sudden want to turn this, which isn't even an NCAA infraction, just a school policy issue, into him being horrible.

He didn't ask for a better grade, just a chance for the kid to possibly improve his great through additional work.

I have no doubt that all you Flood haters wouldn't care one bit if we were ranked in the top 25 coming off a major bowl win.

There would not be ONE single person here crucifying him if that was the case.
You just want him out....and you want to use this as a means to justify it.

Flood's actions smell of desperation rather than ignorance. The suspension is likely a front to buy time while exploring other coaching options. Much as I hate to say it, GS might be a very good option to hold both the program and recruiting together. However he will be expensive just don't think he will be a winning solution long term unless he gives up some control on offense.
.

Maybe Greg comes in on a retainer thru season's end . Long term negotiations begin after that possibly. Win Win.
Greg gets back into Coaching....national visibility .... Savior of a program upside. RU gets stability (short term) and a leader that cleans up the mess....respectability.

What about his attempts to circumvent OPRA laws?

I have supported Flood since his hiring. The one thing I have learned from watching him as a coach and reading this report is that he is a very stubborn man who doesn't learn from his mistakes. He is not a big time coach and I believe that what we've already seen from him is the best we can hope for in the Big Ten. And no, I'm not jumping on the Schiano bandwagon, but Flood should not be coaching a team in a P5 conference.

Jeff Towers, is that you??

Can we please stop with this nonsense about Kyle Flood being "a great guy"? Whether because of stupidity or dishonesty, Flood has destroyed all the goodwill about the program that it took Greg Schiano ten years to build.

Kyle Flood has betrayed the program and all of its fans.

He is quite "a great guy."

Are you kidding me? Because it wasn't an NCAA regulation, it's no big deal? Is that the standard now? Just follow the base minimum that is set nationally?

I'm curious about his admission to not attending mandatory compliance meetings. My company has sign in sheets & makes us verify that we received the information presented. If his signature appears that he attended these compliance meetings, tack on the fact that he lied to this investigation.

Your sarcasm meter broken? Or you just have a general inability to read between the lines?

I can say it...and in fact, I just did.

Just because you guys don't like him because he doesn't win enough games, doesn't make it right.

He is a very high quality guy, that maybe cares a little too much for his players, and he f'ed up.

If you work for a company that has rules of conduct in place -- regardless of whether or not you believe in those rules or your intentions are good -- sorry, but you did more than F up. He dug his own grave.

Gotta say, I thought the email investigation was pretty bogus, something the university might do just on the off chance there was something they could use if they wanted to terminate his contract after the season. After reading this report, I'm flat out shocked. How could any head coach be so stupid?

Flood must have known our secondary was desperate to do this...

Well, I guess he wouldn't be so stupid if his team was in the SEC.

Even if he didn't attend - I'm sure someone on the staff attended and was aware of the rules. Hard for me to believe that in all the years he has been at RU, the subject of coaches contacting professors regarding grades never came up.

...this report reads pretty ugly.

My gut tells me that there's good possibility that this 3 week suspension is an opportunity for Rutgers to finish up their HR paperwork. I think he could be done.
How can Flood lead young men and tell them to follow the rules when he blatantly ignored this one? Flood needs to go (and HR needs to start!).

Can't grasp how Flood can be this stupid. If you're going to try and circumvent the rules at least be good at it. This was a pathetic attempt.

Hopefully Greg Brown is in Schiano's ear and is ready to open up the wallet.

I think the have more on flood than they did on Fred hill if looking to force a change and negotiate a settlement

Kind so scary, after reading all the specifics, that this idiot is making decisions on the field during games. Explains a lot. Maybe even explains why he can't snag any of NJ's top players.

The thing about flood was that his major selling points are "man of integrity" and "players' coach". Those two perceptions have taken a major hit.

What's left is that, i believe, he overperforms relative to his salary. That's not nothing, but is it enough?

But I'll say it again because I fully believe it. Kyle Flood is a high character guy that made s mistake.

If Flood had won more games in his first three seasons, you jokers calling for his head wouldn't be saying shit right now and you all know it.
But, he didn't! Look, one thing is to send an email, or talk to a Prof. about any additional work a student can do to improve his grade. But, to arrange a meeting outside of the facilities, correct the paper in question and ignore warnings from Academic Advisors to stay away, that is NOT "a high character guy"! The one thing Flood had going for him was his character, or so we thought.
You might like this guy, and even have him bless your newborn, but please don't ask us to ignore the obvious, or call us "stupid," if anything we(at least most of us) were against the Administration in what we perceived to be a witch hunt and completely unfair. But, now......................

I have a friend who lives in Middlesex. While he's settled down now that he is in his 40s his life is a long list of bad decisions. Most of the bad decisions involve alcohol. My favorite story was when he was in Belmar and decided he just had to pee right then and there on the street. He picked a car to hide behind and peed on the tire. Shortly after he was finished, the two police officers in the police car he peed on stepped out of the car and arrested him. Anyway, he's friendly with Flood. Flood will sometimes drink a few beers at my friends house. I'm 100% convinced that this idiotic plan was hatched by these two while they were drinking poor quality beers. No other explanation will ever make sense to me.
