Okie dokieMark Byington left the Dukes for the Commodores
The Dukes finished 32-4 this season and upset Wisconsin in the first round of the NCAAs
But couldn't get past Duke in the 2nd round game
Mark Byington was 86-36 in his 4 years at James Madison
Vanderbilt excels at baseball ,not basketball In the SEC.Think he could have held out for better job.
Vanderbilt has enormous resources and Nashville is a great place to live. If you can build a competitive program that gets to the Tournament 50% of the time, why would you ever want to leave?Vanderbilt hasn't been a powerhouse in the past but did fairly well for itself
Kevin Stallings it's HC from 1999 to 2016 went 332-220 in his 17 years with 7 tourney bids
But the next two Commodore HCs had losing records
Bryce Drew was 40-59 in his three years, in his first season Vanderbilt made the tourney
Jerry Stackhouse never made the tourney from when he was hired in 2019 till let go this year
He was 70-92 in his 5 years there
If Byington can make Vanderbilt a winner, he'll be gobbled up by a name brand.
If not back to the minors with the program that hires him hoping his James Madison touch becomes theirs.

agree, the higher the academic standard for athletes to be admitted, the more good HCs will stay away because they won't get the best talent.Because you want to coach stupid players. :):)
