Was I the only Met fan happy Murphy didn't win the game last night?

Even though I feel the Mets showed little love for Murphy after he almost single handily led them to the World Series, they did offer him 15.9 Mil, for one year. Neither he or the Mets thought he had this type of season in him, or else he wouldn't have signed a 3 year deal worth about 12.6 mil a year. Watching him tear the Mets apart so many games this season, and naturally enjoying it, I just couldn't root for him, and think what might have been with him. Although, he did miss close to 20 games this season, if he was with the Mets, it might have been 80,lol.

I think this is unfair point of view. Mets didn't offer Murphy jack crap. He was tendered so they could get a draft pick and anyone advising him not to sign the best long term deal offered would have been doing him a disservice. No one should take a $20 MM injury risk when there is a $36MM contract on the table. Even Cespedes had a $75 MM guarantee in case he got injured or had a sub par year this year. Now he'll opt out.

I also think Murphy watched the Stephen Drew contract situation play out over the past few years and got the money whilst it was on the table. Can't blame him for that.

I don't get all the anti Murphy
Going back to the baby thing...agree with time off or not
but I respect his position...thought that reflected worse on Boomer than Murphy
by far...and I like Boomer

Always viewed him as a little odd but he gave Mets his all...maybe in private..like Duda...he could be a pain but the lack of signing interest...the net negative crap....was always too much for me and the Mets never treated him well even though his defense made position choice a challenge at times

I rooted for LA....don't like Nats at all...but not because of DM

Hard to see LA pushing Chi but will root for them again

I always liked Murphy, and still do. It was not about watching him lose--it was watching snark-face Bryce Harper lose, which brings me lots of joy.

I am also happy for Justin Turner. He reminded me of a modern Rusty Staub. He quietly had a very solid three seasons for the Dodgers:
296 batting average with 50 home runs. He hit 27 home runs this year. Mets need infielders with that kind of production. In hindsight, we should have kept him over Duda.
But the 4 years Turner played for the Mets, he had a 265 batting average and 8 home runs.

Hindsight being 20/20 would say the Mets should have signed Murphy for what he wanted. I think Mets and Murphy both did the right thing. There was nothing in Murphy's career that would have predicted his 2016 season except for a couple week period during the 2015 post season. Given his liabilities in other aspects of his game, I would have done the same thing the Mets did, tender him a good one year contract. Given he had other, better offers, Murphy made the right choice to move on.

And yes, I enjoyed Murphy not winning game for Nats.

My rooting against him winning the game was based on not wanting to see the Nats advance, not about Murphy being the hero.

So this makes Murphy a bad guy that he wanted some guaranteed years in his contract and not taking that BS, draft pick producing offer sheet? Guarantee you not many here would have turned that down? So what it was $15 million. He earned a chance at getting a good contract with his consistent hitting in NY and his insane 2015 post season.

Mets wouldve been hailed a smart front office if they offered what Washington did but of course they had other agendas/ideas. I liked it when their excuse was Dilson Herrera but they traded him for Jay Bruce (even though) they couldve had Jonathan Lucroy (better player and need for NY) for Herrera but used they same the excuse there.

Should be interesting what they do with second base this offseason. Dont know if I would offer Neil Walker a $17 M offer sheet because he may take it. I had no problem with Walker this year as he did a good job teplacing Murphy. But with his back issues being handled by the Mets medical staff, it may be a good thing if Walker go as far away from NY as possible. Plus, IMO, I would look at TJ Rivera at second base in the spring. But of course hes not a big enough star or whatever, which is a shame because he earned a shot to start but will never get .

Loved seeing the Nats choke again. I really liked Murph as a Met and wish him no ill will.

Kind of like Chapman and Miller are fortunate to now be on a contender?

Yep....and I'm rooting for both of them. It would be awesome to see them duel in a game 7 of the World Series for all the marbles.
Those prospects we got for the two of them are gonna have to be damn good to make me stop regreting those moves by the Yankees. I still probably would not have let Miller leave town with years left on his contract. And hopefully we re-sign Chapman in the off-season.

Trading Chapman was a no brainer; Miller was a tougher choice. I don't follow Yanks closely but have read there some concerns regarding his elbow. If true, then probably a good move as well. Won't know if these were good trades or not until a few years pass and we see what the prospects do.

I liked Murphy as a Met, but if they had signed him I don't think he would have had the same year that he had with the Nats. With most athletes its the mental part of the game that can make or break your performance. When he felt "dissed" by the Mets it gave him the mental, emotional incentive to concentrate and stick it to them. That focus wouldn't have been there had he stayed. I think there is less incentive to prove a team made the right decision than there is to prove they made a mistake. Just my opinion.

Hey, I got no issues with Murphy, NONE. But if he signed with the Mets, NO CESPEDES, even at the current contract. He may not have had in NY the year he had in DC. But he has become a better player this year. Ni one cant deny that. Mets, Alderson dropped the ball there.

The Mets continue to act like a small market team. They also got caught up in saber metrics that put Murphy past his prime. I thought it was clear he was a vastly improved hitter last year with a swing and stance adjustment that increased his bat speed. Not at all surprised by this year. The most frustrating thing about being a Met fan is not that they haven't won since '86 but that they spend like they are based in Milwaukee.

You might not have been surprised by Murphy's year, but the Mets were and believe me, so were the Nationals, and Murphy as well.. Murphy wasn't even their first choice at 2nd base.No way he accepts a deal worth 12 mil a year for 3 years, when he could have taken 15.9 mil, for one year, go free agent and make a lot more in another 3 year deal.Bottom line is,not many players have in the middle of their careers ever improved as much as he did. It's extremely rare, and not done every often.
