Washington game EDITED. not yet “sold out”

No one cares. It’s the internet.

It's just embarrassing in past games when 8,000 of the 10,000 upper deck seats are empty during a 'sell out' because thousands of freebies were given out.

1) There’s not 10,000 seats in the upper deck

2) Tons of people get tickets for the upper deck but sit in the lower bowl/student section. Which is funny because upper deck seats have the best view in the stadium.

My guess is the student section will be at like 110% capacity tomorrow.

Not sure what you think the number is but each upper deck side has 4,826 seats. 10k as an estimate is close enough for the purposes of the discussion.

Anyway, back to the point most were making. It just seems silly for the program when a game is called a sell out and the stadium looks like this instead of actually being full like in the Northwestern and Vtech games last year:

In house will likely be low 50's
Crowd won't fill in til the end of Q1

It's a soft sell out
Tickets unloaded via the secondary market

E.g. tickets usually going for $50, RU sells them to SeatGeek in bulk (~5/6k seats) for $20, SeatGeek sells them for ~30, nets X amount
It's partly the reason why their the official ticket partner of RU

Couple that in with the Wawa deal and that's what most schools are doing
Some even sell them at Walmart (South Carolina and Louisville)
Michigan had a deal a few years ago w/free tickets for every Happy Meal purchased at McDonalds

We all know it won't be a butts-in-the-seats sell out, but it will still be a good crowd. It's a sell out from the ticket office's perspective. Why do people care so much about the announced sell out thing?
Probably gave away 10,000 seats to local schools/athletic teams. Ticket office will never admit that though.

Always love when I am in my $100 seat and someone who paid $15 is sitting next to me. Even worse when that person paid nothing.

Just got two tickets from costco $69.99 no fees lower deck. Waiting on delivery to my email now. Takes ~ 3 hours.

FYI they do say up to 72 hours on a weekend for email delivery.

Just an fyi - I saw someone post that the Washington game shows as sold out through the Costco deal once you get the opportunity to pick a game.

During my catchup with my RU student mentee for this semester we talked about the game on Friday for a bit and it got into what the students do for the game.

This was a junior living off campus on college Ave. really into football.

He basically said that most, nearly all, the students living around college Ave , don’t even entertain the idea of “trekking over” to the stadium. Basically said it takes way tooo long and is an absolute mood killer going from a fun pregame party to then having to walk to the bus stop , wait , sit on a charter style bus, and then it takes 20-40 min to get to the drop off.

I think the solution has and will continue to be … gotta entice the pregame parties back onto Busch . Whether it’s the frat tailgates or the Alley.

Maybe Ryan Parassi has more stomach to re-attempt some version of The Alley

This needs to get fixed ASAP

We are losing generations of future fans, season-ticket holders, and donors as these kids are not coming to games, and not living the true college experience as a result

This is exactly how it was when I was a student 2013-2016. We were not allowed to tailgate anywhere. Any crowd over 15 students would get shut down and ticketed immediately. This killed the mood and made students not want to attend games. We were offered no alternative until the Alley (I was gone for that), but before that the tailgate options for students were brutal.

So we would tailgate on campus, and then realize that it would take an hour to get to the stadium. That is hard to get people to buy into. The only solution proposed by the fraternity and sorority Dean was to check IDs and have everyone bring their own 6 pack. But that still didnt alleviate the issue of not letting the students gather in certain areas. Absolutely awful approach. Also, not many girls/guys wanted to have to carry their own 6 pack from CA to the lots and then wander around.

can’t speak for others, but I get jealous when I see 90k stadiums packed while we have trouble packing our 52k stadium.. then when the school announces a sellout, and I get excited only to see half the 2nd tier isn’t even filled..kinda makes me mad.
I don't see it that way. Everything is relative. If we had a reason to build a 90K stadium back in the 50s or whenever, then maybe the familial commitments and traditions to attend every game and get tot he seats early would be well-sestablished. That's not us.. that's not Rutgers.. that's not Jersey or NYC metro stuff. Its not even Jets and Giants or Eagles stuff despite season ticket wait lists of a decade or more.

Attendance here depends on whether teh game is an "event" or not? Will it make your neighbors jealous that you were there? Even then.. most people would just like to show up, walk right in, and then "beat the traffic" and get out and back to their NY-NJ-PA metro lifestyles.

That's just how it is.

Will it change? Maybe. Anything is possible.

I know @SF88 is passionate about this as well .

And I’m sure @riotsquad has had discussions with the athletic dept about it years past ago

It’s not so much our attendance I have an issue with..again, it’s the pr team making a big deal of a sellout when they know it wasn’t…which btw didn’t happen this week.

Maybe people have seats in the top level and decide to sit near the Student section since the students are packed together in 134-141 and they went down to sit in sections 132,133, 142,143
So I always do this and sit in the empty bleachers near the student section...for the first time in over a decade... I had to move multiple times because of the student section was overflowing and they were standing and couldn't see anything....
