It’s because of the new arm locking rule. A player gets an offensive rebound and is fouled making the put back. The officials go to the video and see that the defensive player had locked his arm as he was going for the rebound. He gets the foul shot for the three point play and two foul shots for the arm lock. His team gets the ball under the new rule and makes a three point shot. It’s going to happen sometime.

is that what the flagrant foul was all about?
It was, but I did not realize until I watched the Michigan State v. FGCU game later on that I found out that a foul call could be made on the put back AND the officials could go to the video and impose the penalty for the arm locking as well, even though it happened before the put back. In theat game, #44 was fouled on a put back and awarded the and one. After video review, he was also awarded two shots for the flagrant one for the arm luck, with his team being awarded the ball.

I don't know if I'd call that an 8 point play. Currently, you wouldn't call it a 9 point play if someone hits a 3, gets fouled (+1), and the defense is also hit with a T for something like swinging elbows or foul language (2 more), and then the scoring team gets the ball back and hits another 3.
