Looking back on Ray....we failed our son, Ray. If Coach Schiano were still here, things would have been very different! He would have reminded us of who we really are!

Ray is a loyal son and we should have stood by him! WE should have taken our lumps. I will always cheer for Ray Rice, not for the elevator, but for who he truly is...a loyal son. Thanks Ray.

Going forward, without Coach Flood and without Hermann. We should remember who is family. When your relative screws up, he is still your loved one. I love Coach Flood, he is us. Its time for him to move on, because the world won't let him succeed at home any more. But, he will always be ours. Always.

That's what it is to be a loyal son.

What we think doesn't matter. It's the outside world. Whoever sent that video to the media destroyed Ray. They don't give a shat. Greg Hardy did worse and he's playing today. If decency and honesty mattered, Mitt Romney would be president today. What's destroying this county today is the attitude of the people living here.

This thread has to be a setup. You try to get a bunch of Rutgers fans defending someone who knocked out a woman in an elevator and the fan base looks bad and out of touch. Why else would you start such a thread.

I saw Ray last Saturday at a New Rochelle playoff game. He was #1 cheerleader on sideline with his daughter and the team. He was his old self - enjoying the game and the crowd. You would never think anything had gone wrong. I am 100% certain Ray knows he can only blame himself, and his not consumed with resentment. New Rochelle also once took down all his memorabilia and banned him. Things are better now. What I am sure bothers Rice is the oft repeated notion he was "washed-up" and no good as a RB anymore. He was healed, 12 lbs lighter and averaging 10+ yards a carry in preseason before the "enhanced" video broke. Rice was his old self ready to pop.

Ray had an awful moment, plain awful, and I don't condone it, nor feel bad for him, in ANY way, shape, or form. That being said, laying ANY of this, for ANY reason, on Rutgers, as an institution, or anybody in its family, is both ignorant and absurd.

Wow. Put the bottle down buddy. It's okay----even though what you wrote is incoherent gibberish.

That's true - but RU did still have a hysterical reaction to Rice events and couldn't purge him from the record fast enough (didn't return any of the money he helped them make though). Of course New Rochelle had the same kind of reaction (and the NFL went hysterical too despite already ruling). Now none of those things are really that big a deal specifically but they highlight a pattern of authorities who overreact to the slightest mistake. You see the same thing in Missouri this week. There's been no proof of any "poop Swastika" and the school president who alerted school to "confirmed" KKK sightings on the campus has apologized because there were no KKK events on campus. Yet top school officials have resigned in terror over mere rumors. Rice event is over but we keep seeing the same jellyfish responding in terror to similar events. We cant have people going hysterical every time someone is in media. So many leaders are timid that they are breeding violence. You watch.

Are you going to tie everything that happens in the next year to Mizzou no matter whether it makes sense or not?

In a league full of guys exhibiting Neanderthal behavior, Ray deserves another chance. I don't buy the washed up argument. No one can say that for certain. As a Ravens fan, I still wish we had him.

He is the only player in the history of the league that I can think of who was blackballed for one strike.

I'm saying that we failed in not supporting Ray. We are a family. That's why we are different. And I truly believe that we are different. If you've been around for a while, you know what it is to be a loyal son. Coach Flood will always be a loyal son, always. Coach Graber is a loyal son! Coach Schiano is a loyal son. You know.

Sure, Ray did fail Ray! Absolutely!

But, as an institution we dropped him like a hot rock. We were way wrong.

People come with warts. If Rutgers takes a player, a student, a Coach or a fan, we should take them completely, through thick and thin.

That is a Rutgers man!

I'm still confused here. Completely confused - I thought this happened almost 2 year ago, so not even sure why it's relevant. Most of us are arguing for or against another year for Flood - but I think most of us agree that Ray had a really bad night that was completely out of character, but has no one to blame but himself - and true to the aforementioned character, he's handled his mistake with class. It was a small elevator, I'm not sure how you squeeze a university in there - or even the football team?

Also completely confused how a millionaire hitting his wife in an elevator or another millionaire throwing his girlfriend onto a futon with guns (or a billionaire still employing him) has anything to do with how the election turned out.

I hope we fail Coach Flood in a couple of weeks

Oh yes the Mittster....such a genuine guy.

Where do you get that we've failed Ray Rice?

Rutgers has worked with him for a while since his transgressions and he's been at multiple Rutgers games/events since.

Nobody has ever condoned what Ray did. He brought the stupidity on himself. But don't blame Rutgers or the fact that Schiano isn't here for that.
