We failed our son, Ray

I get you OP and for years I have always wondered why Natalie Wood got on that damn boat.

Am I alone in thinking that since Ray was allegedly taking substances to enhance his body, that perhaps they affected his mind and attitude as well? He reportedly was NOT the same guy with his team mates SO?

Not sure Jack Daniels or Grey Goose are performance enhancing.

I've thought the same thing. After years of weightlifting in advanced high school, college and professional programs a small RB managed to put on 10 pounds of muscle in a few weeks (Harbaugh said Rice's body fat % had not changed - he was muscle bulked and not "fat"). Rice was trying to overcome injury and many NFL players have been known to try substances to heal, perform etc. On the field Rice was noticeably edgy and had been in several scuffles and spitting incidents with opponents. I also know from friends who were in the same casino the night of the elevator incident that Rice had hit a casino security guard earlier in the night. My friends saw incident and left because of it (fearing they would get tangled up in police affairs etc)

In a league full of guys exhibiting Neanderthal behavior, Ray deserves another chance. I don't buy the washed up argument. No one can say that for certain. As a Ravens fan, I still wish we had him.

He is the only player in the history of the league that I can think of who was blackballed for one strike.
I've said this before here, and the Ravens line and run game that year were downright terrible, but but I don't have any doubt if he ran for 1600 yards in 2013 instead of 600, or averaged 6 yards/carry instead of 3, that he would be on a team somewhere.

Greg Hardy, Michael Vick...Donte Stallworth killed a guy and the Ravens signed him when the suspension was up. The NFL is an ugly, cutthroat business and if a team felt that his contributions on the field could help them win and outweighed the bad PR bringing him on would cause, someone would sign him. Zero doubt in my mind.

well, this thread has taken a turn towards the absolutely idiotic. I'm not sure if you're trolling here or not... but it was widely reported that he was actually losing weight in the time leading up to the incident:

so Im assuming most of the nonsense in your post is just stuff you made up.

Sure, Ray did fail Ray! Absolutely!

But, as an institution we dropped him like a hot rock. We were way wrong.

People come with warts. If Rutgers takes a player, a student, a Coach or a fan, we should take them completely, through thick and thin.

That is a Rutgers man!

Interesting. How you feeling about Andre Boggs at this point ? Is he a Rutgersman too ! Do we stick by him thru thick and thin ?

I say no.

Maybe Ray failed RU and his family.
RU fans should hope that Rice learns from his mistake, but not excuse it or make like it didn't happen.

The psychosis is yours. Ray was being called a fatty all season - right up to the end....

Trainer says Ravens running back Ray Rice has lost 15 pounds, down to 210 pounds
He weighed roughly 225 pounds at end of last season, his worst as a starter in NFL career

"After a disappointing season in which he dealt with a strained hip flexor and quadriceps injury and struggled to break tackles or elude defenders, Ravens running back Ray Rice vowed that he would rededicate himself to regain his Pro Bowl form.

By the end of the season, Rice was heavier than he'd been at any point in his NFL career, weighing roughly 225 pounds.

Rice has since lost 15 pounds, getting down to a leaner 210 and now working toward a goal of reporting at 205 for next season, according to his Timonium-based trainer, Kyle Jakobe of Sweat Performance."

Looking back on Ray....we failed our son, Ray. If Coach Schiano were still here, things would have been very different! He would have reminded us of who we really are!

Ray is a loyal son and we should have stood by him! WE should have taken our lumps. I will always cheer for Ray Rice, not for the elevator, but for who he truly is...a loyal son. Thanks Ray.

Going forward, without Coach Flood and without Hermann. We should remember who is family. When your relative screws up, he is still your loved one. I love Coach Flood, he is us. Its time for him to move on, because the world won't let him succeed at home any more. But, he will always be ours. Always.

That's what it is to be a loyal son.

I like apples. They are good.

USC cleared out all trophies and references to OJ and Reggie Bush from its Heritage Hall athletic museum. Did RU expunge all evidence of Ray from its displays? I don't know the answer, but if Ray still has a place in RU heritage, then I'm saying the university did not let him down.
