We learned two things today:

They would come, because you offer them and their assitants the proper salary to convince them to come to Rutgers.

The rumor is that UVA offered Richt $5mm and he turned it down. When Miami fired Golden the word was that they had up to $4mm to spend on a head coach. Assuming this is true and assistant pay was comparable, Richt was willing to forego $1mm to be at Miami over UVA. I have a tough time believing that, but perhaps its what happened. Say UVA says okay, we will pay you $6mm. You don't think thats a new conversation?

Say Rutgers offers silly money... like $7.5mm to Richt. Do you think he is not our head coach right now? If we are willing to pay that much is the Rutgers job still overrated? Or is it now a desirable job?

I cannot imagine that there are built in disadvantages that cannot be overcome with more money. It is one thing to say we are willing to spend for the right candidate. But the right candidate is not going to come to Rutgers unless you are willing to pay a premium. You can't call Chip Kelly and offer to pay him what the Eagles are paying him. Any idiot knows that. If our guys didn't know that going in, they were stupid, and should have never leaked any of that nonsense about going after the top names.

Rutgers: Last in athletic donations, first in complaining we don't spend enough money.

The issue is that if we were willing to pay more, we would be able to attract other coaches who aren't currently interested.

Rhule is one example. He probably isn't interested in coming unless we bump him to $2m+

We're bumping him up to $2M+, so why would he leave for the same money?

We are so called one of the bottom only because of the money. If we were paying top $$$ we would be considered pretty damn disirable
