it was on full display tonight that we dont have anybody other than Corey who can really handle the ball against p5 defenders. Geo is okay but even he hangs it out a little too much. Corey is the x-factor to us being a bubble team or a sub .500 team next year imo

Disagree on the condition that we replace his scholarship with another ball-handler. For all his athleticism he is not an efficient scorer and I'm willing to trade off some pure athleticism for more efficiency (aka someone who can make a jump shot).

Isn’t Geo 17? And his first big time game, national TV, against a big-time a pony? Just stop. Even the announcers, who were anti-Scarlet Knights an anti-big 10 the entire game, couldn’t stop talking about Geo’s potential from here on out.

Silly.

KYK, actually, he has shown himself to be a more adept passer than Corey in the Cakewalk Games. He played quite a bit at the point, allowing Corey to set up for shots. Geo, at this point, is a combo guard. Next year, he may be PG, and if Corey can resist the lure of playing in Bolivia, Corey may be SG for good.

Im talking strictly about ball handling. Geo is going to be our only ball handler on the team next year. He cant play 35 minutes a game from november to march

Corey will be back next year, as he still has a lot of work to do on his game.

I tend to agree, IF this was the standard matchup of the B1G.....I started a separate thread of the horses in the ACC....

The roster is built to account for 20 B1G games plus a potential 2 to 3 B1G conference tournament games as well....in the B1G, you need size, strength and shooting that is designed for the leagues opponents.....

The ACC is now ahead 6-1 in the matchups against the B1G.....the point spreads were perhaps a little wrong, but the matchups are just not ideal.

When the pace of the game is slowed down, the players are going to be asked to make the extra pass, find shooters, rebound.....seeing a CJ Walker is not the norm.....Corey and Eugene are better suited for and up and down contest.....that however may not translate to the bulk of the B1G matchups of Wisconsin, Michigan, etc....in those games, it may show up where Corey struggles against a zone and Baker thrives in a more controlled pace....Eugene may also struggle against teams that clog the paint and don't allow driving lanes...perhaps those teams sag off Eugene and make him make jumpers.....

The ACC is the Athletic Coast Conference.........matchups matter in basketball....just keep that in mind as the go through the league.

I am with Shack, we need Corey because he is a playmaker that will be a senior and of course we need that. I do think though there are some ways that this team could improve and survive and even thrive without him.

FSU is an athletic team that should never play zone despite their length. The fact that they played so many possessions in zone tells you a ton.

Can you win in college basketball with a point guard that can't shoot?

The answer may be no.

We need the team to take on the identity of Duocore who is visibly upset he is the only player hustling in transition. We need the team to take on the identity of Eugene is willing to take a charge.

Corey has been our best defender and I think he actually should have had the ball in his hands more tonight.

My hope is next year we have guys that need minutes.

Baker has to get a better handle. I still envision him as a 3rd guard and hope we can recruit a point guard and an explosive 2 that can score all ways.

Agree with this thread one hundred percent. We will have no true PG or trusted ball handler against pressure.... sure we will be fine in the non conference but we will struggle mightily against any fast athletic long armed team we play.... and that doesn’t even take into account play making and passing

we have the worst offense of any P5 school over the past 2 1/2 years. Convince me why we can't live without him

Uhhhhh I don't think you've been watching as much basketball around the country that you normally do

In the end, Corey scored 20 and was a big contributor..but I also saw plenty of his laziness in this game, especially towards the end. I wouldn't call this a good game for him.

Williams is also hurting us. Can't have a two guard that can't knock down threes. I am hoping Mathis is an upgrade to Williams and he should be. If Corey comes back and Geo continues to improve and Mathis is an upgrade then out back court is set as long as we add a fourth guard.

I have little issues with the way Corey played. He is at his best when playing 32 minutes. I actually thought we needed more of his dribble penetration.

Corey will be back i believe. He did show flashes of driving with his left today because they were showing 0 respect. Couldnt see the finish hand but its coming. Its just so noticable his left hand is like a foreign language. Progress, but not enough.

He also seems very hesitant to rip his shot and their center #14? or 12 i forget was sending his layups left and right.

EDIT: Corey D is also impressive and a lot of his offensive woes i think are due to dead legs bc Souf hasnt proven he can come in and give him a breather. FSU showed he isnt ready, im not givign up on him yet.

He also had an uncalled goaltend against him in the first half that's in the books as a blocked shot.

Our roster lacks capable point guards. The Souf miss is huge and could become bigger. We lose a combo guard in Mike Williams next year and possibly Corey we really needed to ball handlers to come in. We are a little Big heavy, KYK is correct IMO

We were getting closer when Douby skipped his senior year. Hope it's not a repeat. This kid is a gamer. $$$$

Tonight was just another example of how wrong the OP is with life after Sanders. I say addition by subtraction.

Not true. Mathis and Kiss are going to be difference makers. Kiss is going to open up a lot of the inside game because of his 3 pt shooting, Corey continues to be erratic and plays out of control as he did tonight. If he was smart he would pump fake and get the foul.

Baker needs to improve his ball handling a lot to be a point guard.

Having said that our best lineup right now on offense could be and maybe overall

Baker Williams Issa Freeman doucore

I'd put in Eugene over Freeman against legit b1g teams. How many times does Freeman get blocked?

Who would take the minutes of Sanders and williams? We are short at the guard position this year. The guards have to play too many minutes. Mathis and Kiss to replace those 2 means we are short next year as well. Can we find another guard for next year?
