A good lesson or series of lessons will get your moving parts to the right spots. It will take some time to get the feel of your new swing adjustments, but in the long run, they should help.
I hit a natural fade can turn into a downright slice. I tried a lot of different things to correct it, but it wasn't until a couple of lessons (with video!) showed me that my right elbow was getting away from my body causing me to come down at the ball from the outside in, causing the fade/slice.
My "self taught" correction was to try to flatten out my swing, but in reality, it wasn't helping and only making it MUCH worse.
The lessons showed me how to take my elbow in before starting my downswing, so now I'm making more contact with the inner back quadrant of the ball and less of the outside.
