What Are RU TV Fans Viewing Habits?

I know a lot of people like to get together to watch our games in bars and with friends in their homes and this probably makes me seem antisocial but I prefer to watch RU games alone. I find when I watch with other people I miss a lot with all the talking, yelling etc.

Was curious about other posters viewing habits and if anyone else likes to watch alone. My plan is to get up, take a nice long walk grab a coffee in town, head over to this great Italian deli downtown, stock up and settle in for a great day of football that has been too long coming.

Other folks plans/thoughts?

Usually alone or with my wife, standing and pacing and reacting loudly to the tv while she sits. Have definitely startled the cat and my kids at times in the past, and when I used to live in a townhouse the neighbors said they always knew when I was watching a game.

This time, I'll be in Seattle, though.

I also do not like to watch RU games in bars or big crowds. I usually watch at home with a couple close friends who are also alums. If its a difficult game, I hate watching with non-alumni who aren't invested in Rutgers.

Agree. Whenever I have a big group of friends watching a game, I feel like I hardly see the game. Fine for something like a Super Bowl between two teams I don't care about, not fine for an RU game.

Since I'm a couple hours behind (not the WA game, of course, but the usual RU game), I often wake up to the game on Saturday morning on my bedroom TV, make coffee on a commercial, then move to the bigger TV downstairs after the first quarter or half. An RU win starts off the day right - a big loss and maybe it's back to bed .

The first Saturday is tough, because it's Labor Day and lots of good sales to check out around town, but after that, I do much like you - settle into my recliner for the entire day, straight through until about 11 p.m., then often fall asleep watching one of the games I missed on demand. I might move to get a beer or meet the pizza guy at the door but that's about it :sunglasses:

I watch mostly alone and mostly in slow motion after the ball is snapped.

No I'm not kidding.

I like to watch alone or with other hardcore RU fans.

I watch with a group here in New Hampshire, actually at our house. Only three RU alum, my wife, me and a neighbor who ‘s a professor at the local university. But others have a connection to RU, just not as alums. One, a Dartmouth grad whose father got his PhD at RU and was a colleague of Selman Waksman, two guys from Jersey City, one who had two children, three of his children’s spouses, and three grandchildren all graduate from RU. Then there’s my son , grandson, and two or three others. Most of the group joined me at various times to drive to the home games when I had season tickets. It’s a pretty intense group of people with plenty of pacing and arm-chair quarterbacking. It’s a blast, and it’s done in an alcohol and tobacco free environment.

I prefer to watch at home alone. The only person I could tolerate watching a game with is my brother, but he's a big a fan as I am, and neither of us are going to talk during a game.My brother may come down for the Washington game, but personally I hope he doesn't, because he'll bring the family and I know the wife & kids will ruin the game for me. Had to watch at a bar once, it was horrible. I met friends there, the wife is a blabber mouth, ruined the experience for me.

I usually start watching the away games at my store. Shortly after the game starts, the lady who works for me, tells me to go home. Something about scaring the costumers with my yelling and screaming. Saturday, I think I'll go home before kickoff, so I can watch the whole game. I have Comcast, so I'm good to go!

I like to watch at home with the family, and I am up and down off the couch quite a bit, kind of like I am in the stadium. Don't like watching in a bar where I can't hear the announcers or there are a lot of distractions.

That said, I may head over to Val's for a short while to meet some Scarlet Nation folks.

If I'm not at the game, I want to watch either alone or with othes who care just as much as I do about the game. Casual fans or people who arent fans at all often bring out the asshole in me because I'm either a) anti-social or b) shushing everyone all game.

I prefer to watch alone for all the reasons stated, but also because I'm constantly rewinding and viewing plays in slow motion to see where the busted coverage was, etc.

Home games, I'm always in my seat in 224 row 1 with our tailgate crew of 15 with me or nearby (all within a few rows of me), so distractions are minimal, as everyone is focused on the game.

Away games, if it's supposed to be competitive, I like watching at the Olive Branch, with a packed house of rabid RU fans, with loud game sound on every TV, so you can actually hear the commentary most of the time. If it's a game I think we're going to get hammered, I'll often watch home, alone, as the bar probably won't be crowded, anyway, and I don't like being around others when we're getting blown out. I always tape the games, but I almost never rewatch losses (unless there was a controversial play), only wins.

That's me too. I get a whole lot more antsy watching on TV. When I'm there in person I'm a heck of a lot more casual.

It's funny because if I do sit I can't lean back,.. always on the edge of the couch ready to jump up and shout for a big play.

I like watching the game alone too. I went to a bar with friends and friends of friends a couple of times to watch on the jumbo screen. Not only did I have to keep in all my game moment emotions, I had to socialize with people about something totally non-football related and I missed a lot of game moments. I am to polite to say "Shut up I am watching the game".

The viewing parties - especially in tight/late games - are fantastic for watching the different emotions of a bar packed with fans of a college team. Not for everyone, no doubt, but I get a kick out of being around people who are, as a group, completely bi-polar on game day!

I prefer to watch games with my buddies who are also Rutgers alumni/fans. Being surrounded by like-minded company makes me feel less like an insane person when I yell at the TV. I'd rather watch alone than with people who aren't fans though.

I prefer to watch alone or with high football IQ people. The biggest problem I find watching with other people is the stupid comments. I played in college and coached so I tend to think I have a deeper knowledge of the game then most. So the stupid comments that are completely unrealistic drives me nuts. You always have that guy who constantly says things like they why didn't they blitz that play when it obvious they stunt a linebacker or the go deep every play guy on offense. It would be like me screaming moves at a grandmaster chess match where I have no clue what the players are trying to set up.

Fortunately at home games the people around me don't back seat coach and just cheer. There occasionally is that guy who arrives half way through the first quarter that will drive me up a wall. He will Monday morning quarterback until he leaves after the third quarter to beat traffic.

alone at home or sometimes with a couple friends, but no more than a couple... i can have the food i want and the beer i want all game long.. and i don't have to wait for the bathroom!!! [cheers]

The Villages & the Orlando Alumni clubs both have watch parties. Orlandos (Friendly Confines)is a 40mi drive,,,the Villages(Beef Obradys) 30mi....and in BOTH cases I would spend $30+ on food at the respective restaurants. (and I am on a diet celebrating having lost 55lbs)

I really DO like meeting alums but I prefer watching at home...solo....esp IF we lose LOL

I don't have a particularly high football IQ, and like Dirty Harry once said, a man has to know his limitations, so my comments are limited to bad plays such as dropped passes, fumbles, bad referee calls.

You should come sit in my section and listen to the guy behind me--you would love him. Wondering how he adapts to the Ash Era.

Or read the game day threads. The level of dumb in game day threads is frightening.

I am shocked how many people watch the game alone. My greatest memories are the celabrations with family after a big win. We do watch at home however (versus a bar), so this week will be a change since I don't have Comcast or the Dish.

No Name Saloon, Park City Utah, with friends (varied alumni from around the country). There will be many games on so I will be essentially watching alone unless it's a good game (fingers crossed). Would have traveled to game but decided to stay local.

In bars there's no escaping the idiots and the stupid stuff they say. In the stadium I can just put my earphones on and listen to the play by play effectively shutting those around me out.

I don't consider myself an expert or all that football smart but I'm sure I'm not alone wondering what game some folks are watching.

I love to watch not only Rutgers but NFL games alone but it doesn't happen very often. I don't like to talk much during the games and find others chatting distracting/annoying. With that being said I enjoy going to a few games a year and tailgating and having a blast so others find it odd that I also prefer a few weeks a year where I shut everyone else out and want to just sit on the couch and be alone having a few beers/ordering pizza with no distractions. On NFL Sundays I go out to a bar with all the games on and love it when I'm solo but usually at least my wife is with me and sometimes it's friends/family too

So a lot of loners on this thread. How many like to watch alone so that you can comment on the Scarlet Nation Game thread or start your own threads here?
I prefer to watch alone (or sometimes with family and/or RU alums). I did start posting in game day threads the last few years although I'm not sure if that's a good thing. I'm so invested in RU football and I don't like the person I can become when things aren't going well (which does show in those game day posts even though my posting style tends to shy away from over-the-top emotional reactions).

Alone at home rooting the boys to victory. Definitely a Nervous Willie while watching. This Saturday, wife is playing golf and kids are at college. I have my home, projector screen and TVs to myself. Just the way I like it
