well, if he doesn't play like Johnny Unitas, Tom Brady and Joe Montana wrapped into one, it was clearly the wrong decision...
If Rutgers had Tom Brady, Flood would still start Laviano over him (and Nova for that matter).

Thanks for the response Mrs. Dodd.If Rutgers had Tom Brady, Flood would still start Laviano over him (and Nova for that matter).
I have the same gnome in your avatar. Coincidence? I think not. RU by 10+.80% of the complainers would be asking for Laviano if Rettig was starting.
More than amused that all the criteria you guys are spouting is the criteria that favored Dodd and yet the Novatards crucified the Dodd supporters. Now it really does appear completely opposite. Hard to figure.
For all of the fans that know best. What would it take statistically and results wise to get you fully behind Laviano moving forward?
If you look at what happened on the field (you know, actual results) Dodd and Nova were pretty even in completion percentage, Nova threw about 1 more INT per 100 passes (maybe 3 a season) and killed Dodd in TD/INT ratio (TDs are relatively important in football)......the thing that has always been hard to figure is the Dodd love.
I get it, he outpaced Nova in "moxie" but nothing else (including w/l %, also relatively important).
Then again Carroo was hurt when Dodd needed him most and never five or six interceptions a game. (Turnovers are even more relatively important in football). Throw in Dodd's Hail Mary's at end of game and stats change significantly no? Not all that hard to figure if actually honest. Will overlook Dodd saving Iowa State game etc....
Mrs Dodd, your son will always be one of our favorites. What a tough nosed, smart player he was. But every time you do this, you make many who respect your son, have to justify why he was not a full time D1a starting QB. And that in itself, sucks. None if us ever want to say something bad about your son because he does not deserve it and we do not want to do it.
Every time you try to argue he had any reason to start for a long period of time, makes us feel the need to point out why he shouldn't have. And it comes off like we didn't appreciate who he was.
Thank you Mrs. Nova for your so insightful commentary. You have added so much so this thread with your statistics to back it up. But why quibble? We will ignore the Iowa Stae bowl win and the comeback win against USF and Va Tech, Kent State and PSU never happened. Or that Carroo was unavailable at UConn but hey thats not fair right?
So- like I said- Dodd was always appreciated and we all like the kid and what he DID bring to the table. Comparisons always makes it seem you are knocking one person when in fact I try not to.
But let's do the stats then. And plenty of games where star players were not available to either player.
Nova threw approximately 2x the amount of passes. 602 vs 1245. So it makes for a very easy fact based comparison.
By doubling Dodd's numbers and comparing to Nova, here you go...
Nova
att: 1245 comp: 689 55.3% yd: 9258 TD: 73 Int: 51 Rate: 129
Dodd
att: 1204 comp: 672 55.8% yd: 8158 TD:48 Int: 40 Rate: 119
Dodd was a very capable backup and we were lucky to have him but even the facts just don't support any possible argument for him to be the starter.
Dumb thread - I want him to throw for 500 yards min, 5 TDs and 0 INTs, check down, run around so to not get sacked and fix world hunger, US involvement in the middle East, financial world markets, Greece and naked women in Manhattan all by the end of the 4th quarter. OK maybe not the naked women in NY.

First and foremost win the game. Also, don't do things that help them win the game, like ints., getting sacked instead of unloading the ball, etc.
Taking into consideration that both of our QB's are still young and lack real experience, they will have to play it safe instead of going to low percentage things. A lot of this is on the coaches and the plays they call of course...but if we see either one of them getting rattled, get him out and put the other guy in unlike what we saw with Nova's bad games.
