Seemed like he struggled and at 2 points total production....was equivalent to Mike Williams last game.

Williams on the other hand flourished/ scored 20.

So what's the point? Can we get, Sanders, Williams and Grier to ALL produce in the same game? Can we get Daniels to produce and be SMART with the ball?

Here's hoping!

Tough call for Eddie. Best chance for B1G win(s) are certainly at home. Can't play Corey 36 minutes every night or he will be on empty in 10-12 games. Think you'll see his bigger minute games (34-36) at the RAC.

Thought the concept was solid, but think Eddie waited a bit too long to get him in. I think it may better to insert him at the first media timeout (under 16), get him blow at around the 8 minute mark and reinsert him at the 4 minute mark. Accomplishes the same 28- 30 minute-ish game, but gets him in the game flow better (imo).

Corey seemed off today. And I don't mean like his shot was off. He was a step slow and missing things. And it wasn't an effort thing he was dropping passes and he was losing his handle something he never does. Add that to the fact that he didn't start or play as much as all is very intriguing. Maybe he is sick?

He tweeted after the game something to the effect that it's hard to get in a groove when you sit out for the first 6-8 minutes of each half... He quickly deleted it

Lets hope he was sick because if he didnt start it was criminally awful decision making. The only reasons besides that are sickness or discipline

Agree with bac, besides illness or discipline for team rule violation, there is no way you sit your most talented player and starting point guard. If he was really worried about his minutes, you manage his minutes sitting him against the timeouts every 4 minutes, or if we were up. Just another strike against Eddie in his poor game day management he has shown

I am a fan of keeping Corey at 32 MPG. However not starting is a bad idea. I am guessing there is a reason other than rest for him not starting. If so I applaud Eddie for not giving him the Rosario treatment.

Why is it a strike against Eddie? Williams had a good game. That was probably the reason Sanders sat longer than expected. Sanders is a freshman and playing point. He is not going to have his legs down the stretch if EJ doesn't manage his minutes.

No reason to save him for second half when the second half is not going to be close or competitive without him playing early and starting. Your most talented players need to play the most minutes, it's simple. These are 18-22 year old kids, they want to play every minute, If it was because of a disciplinary issue, kudos to Eddie. However, if it was strategic, it was a poor decision, IMO. And Sanders thinks so too with his earlier tweet that was later deleted saying can't get In rhythm sitting the first seven minutes

Maybe it was disciplinary based on this post game quote.. Bad attitude it seems

On Corey Sanders, "He didn't start. It's a bump in the road on the path to maturiy. He's got a ton of talent but he's got a lot of holes we've got to fill with his game and his maturity. That's what happens. If you're not on board and you don't have energy and a positive spirit, then you have to learn how to get it. That's what happened today. It was me, partly, and the basketball gods, the other part."

My read also ... Sounds like a semi-disciplinary issue in re Sanders ... not necessarily a violation of team rules, but working on correcting some attitude or behavior of some sort.

Which makes more sense than some criticizing Jordan's "strategy" for player substitution.

But if Laurent is out also ... oh my goodness! If he is not available for the Maryland game (though RU has no shot in that game anyway), that leaves RU with just 7 healthy scholarship players, and literally NO back-up for Foreman and Lewis ... the 6'4" WF/G Grier becomes the back-up PF/C (which the 6'6" WF Laurent had been forced to be), and the 3rd tallest RU player available. Goode will have to play at least 20 minutes ... oh my.

Green Rice FIG: Jordan usually DOES sub relatively early, by the 16 minute mark. When Sanders was not inserted until the 12 minute mark (RU's 1st sub) of the 1st half, and the 13 minute mark of the 2nd half (again, RU's 1st sub of the half), my 1st thought was that the Sanders' benching was a sort of unannounced disciplinary thing ... which seems potentially confirmed by Jordan's post game comments. Not a team rules violation, but an attitude adjustment move.

Laurent out....I can't imagine.

Sanders Daniels WIlliams Grier Lewis start with Foreman off the bench. Villanova 7-10 years ago.

Ouch

Jelly,

Jordan almost never substitutes before the 1st media TO and rarely subs during it.

He almost always leaves Foreman out pass the point of fatigue.

I have no problem with not subbing prior to the 1st media timeout ... about the 16 minute mark. That is a pretty common thing.

I do hear you on the Foreman thing ... but it is not like he has a lot of PF/C options ... either Foreman or Lewis have to stay in longer than they should (or really, both) because since Freeman and Diallo got hurt there is ONLY Laurent to sub for them, and though Laurent is pretty high energy, he is only 1 person, and can only sub for 1 person at a time.

I have never been a fan of subbing every 2-3 minutes of game clock. I actually believe that most players perform better when in a rhythm, and 2 minutes of game clock is not enough to get into the flow of the game in most cases.

Given that, subbing at the media time out slots seems reasonable to me, generally. But with the current bodies available now, you only have 3 players to man 2 front court slots. And Laurent really is NOT a PF. Foreman probably should not be playing more than 20 to 24 minutes per game, but has no choice in most games.

And if Laurent is unavailable for more than 1 game (presume he may miss the Maryland game) ... oh my goodness. Grier becomes the back-up PF? What the heck do you do as a coach?

Keeping Cory out was a rather desperate attempt to change things up by EJ

I think EJ is "grabbing st straws"

Hopefully it doesnt happen again

Not good to here and a stupid decision by Eddie if there wasnt a disciplinary reason
Agreed. I couldn't believe that Sanders was sitting at the start when he's the best player on the team, often sets the tempo, and quarterbacks the offense. He's not an instant offense sixth man .. And I'm no fan of Daniels. Weak handle , can't shoot , and often times can't finish with his out of control drives.

I have no issue with EJ sitting him for discipline issues, but more concerned with why Corey may have a bad attitude? Certainly the losing is a key factor. Players don't always bail out of a losing situation but if he thinks his coach doesn't know what he is doing or cannot get him to where he wants to be- I can see Corey leaving. All that combined with speculation re: Freeman's non attendance recently and no 2016 recruits this has become far more than a dumpster fire. More like a 5 alarmer.

Desperate times and its only the second B1G game. The psyche of the team can't be high with the injuries and the level of competition to be faced in coming weeks.

I didn't interpret it that way. I think Eddie sat him for "strategic" reasons and Corey had a bad attitude b/c of the sitting.

Also add to this is that Foreman is way less than 100%. If it wasn't for the other three out he would be out. I have never seen anything like this.

"fight or flight"

Rutgers BB on the brink as early as ever...man o man.

The strategy was to save Sanders for the second half when his scoring would make the difference. There is only one problem the score is 40-15 Maryland with 2 minutes to go in the first half.

Either is bad.

1. Sanders doesn't deserve to start based on behavior
2. Eddie thinks having Sanders off the bench is best for the team
