C'mon folks, step up and talk about how much better we are without Corey. Can't believe there were people who profess to know anything about basketball who thought we'd be better after losing our best player. It's mind boggling, actually. We miss him so much - we have nobody to go to who can create and make a shot. Nobody. Corey was pretty good at it. We'll be lucky to win our annual 3 B1G games this year.

Because we never got blown out at home with Corey...

He was awful too except for the rare occasion when he went off. Very rare.

The people who thought we would have “better ball movement” without Corey are the idiots who somehow thought we’d win 17-18 games. Don’t get me wrong, this is unacceptable but no way were we going to be better without him

Corey wasn't a good shooter. Please explain to me how he would help.

Because the people rushing to say we need Corey are only paying attention to his big ten tourney performance and forgetting about his inconsistency from game to game

Corey was always a threat and could take over a game at any time. Was he inconsistent at times? Sure. But he would still be the best guard on this team, if he was playing. No doubt about that. He could keep the team in the game until everyone else got there act together.

I don't think this team would still suck with Corey. It would be a much better team and very competitive in the B1G with Corey.

This is crazy! We were bad last year when the conference was worse. Why would be more competitive this year in a better conference??

Yes, I dispute it. I think we'd be mediocre with Corey right now, which is a decent step up from sucks.

But why? He was a 22% three point shooter last year. That's part of the problem, not the solution. We're not really much worse defensively and that has to do with losing Mike Williams too.

My thought was that with Corey we’d be a bit better this year, but playing a different game from what we would in’19-‘20, and so no Corey this year would improve us next year. That was my theory anyway.

A good part of the low 3-pt% was due to the fact that so many times he was the only option at the end of the shot clock and forced up bad threes. With the improvement in EO, Doorson and some of the new guys, plus Geo not having to do everything, he'd also have more options to pass to this year vs. last year, resulting in better balance and scoring. I'm not saying we'd be dancing, but winning 3-5 more games would've been realistic with Corey this year, IMO.

We lost our best player, we are a lot worse without him. Yeah you may say he couldn't shoot but he knew how to get the ball in the hoop and make things happen. If you disagree I am sorry to inform you but you are an idiot.

We are VERY slow on offense. We don't have 1 guy that can break down a defense. Mathis is probably the most explosive but is probably shooting under 10% when he penetrates but doesn't dunk.

We needed Sanders this year.

He definitely would have helped. He would be our best defender. For the most part though offensively he was too streaky and was a total non factor many many nights in the big.

Mostly NJ Hawk
And Greenrice plus others. Same guys said we could win just recruiting top 250-300 players. Beyond ridiculous on all counts. Last years class was good but we need to mix in more top 75 players and the occasional top 50 player. Until that happens we won't win. Bottom line.

The fact remains Corey was a huge loss and a lot of people here tried to explain it away to push their agenda. People that have been around here for a while.

The fact also remains that the 2020 recruiting class is key. If we finally put a good class together relative to our conference mates Pike can still succeed. Without Corey here to keep our momentum going that’s a lot harder task. But he does have the practice facility as leverage. If they class doesn’t raise the level of talent to the middle of the big ten it’s over.

That just goes to show how hard the RUTGERS job really is, The facility is good enough to make a difference with the right guy in charge though.

Green Rice is objective and reasons well. Hawk has no answers only 9 paragraph pontificating posts with no actual point to be made relating to the discussion and no solution to provide.

I only point this out because of how much sh*t he gave me. I’ve been resolute and objective in my analysis and yet still hold on to “hope” like the rest of us. And there is reason for hope because of the facility. Everyone else was creating reasons that didn’t exist or reasons that they thought they could point to if we improved over the next two years but they acted like that already happened/was currently happening.

Why even post this? Who effin' cares. Corey was a great "volume" shooter. In that he took too many shots and his shooting percentage sucked. Yes, I loved Corey, because he could go off and kill it like he did in last year's B1G tournament, but don't act like if he stuck around we would be that much better. As a nucleus we are better, but Geo is in a funk, because he's not handling the pressure of being the "guy" very well. I believe that will change. And we have four freshman and a transfer student that I believe will be very good by year's end.

I predicted we would win maybe 14 games this year. I also thought because we played a tougher ooc schedule and we have two more B1G games our record would be worse. Even with Corey here, I don't think we would be that much better.

But this is a process, accelerated.

You are delaying the inevitable and extending the learning curve next year with him here. If this was free agency or pro sports, you'd make sense. In college sports, the path to improving overall is not watching one player wheel and deal, while no one else learns how to process and deal with playing time. Next year, the goal is that this years bumps and bruises make your roster better in 2 years.

The window for improvement lies in playing time for kids now....in hopes that in 2 years, there's a mix of player development and experience. But make no mistake, there has to be another plus level player added to the front court or PF position.

We have watched a vicious learning curve with Eugene and now Geo on carrying a roster....the workload should get spread out some to Harper, Mathis, McConnell and Myles....None of these 4 players have Corey's athleticism and game, but collectively, I'm willing to take my chances on a group of players over 4 years vs 1 star for 1 year of shortened time.
