Which lot are they putting the students in?

Why is the question being framed in a way that says, getting rid of out of control student parties results in cops making me move my pop up canopy 4 times? Who solves problems with such a simple minded approach?
Not quite as annoying a frat party on a pick-up but in this hypothetical scenario, if your adult, sedate tailgate takes up all the space between two rows of cars and spreads across many lanes with furniture, grills, tents, corn hole boards etc. you also are being space greedy. The fact you were asked to move the tent was because you were executing a tailgate land grab, don't blame the students for that.

If been to many venues with much more restrictive tailgating policies than RU. Even with the not so benevolent oversight of our friends from the County the Blue Lot is one of the rowdier and more wide open tailgate scenes I've run across.

Within the context of this discussion, this is a totally fabricated scenario. We're all very respectful of everyone's space. We have no reason not to be, since we roll into the lot with generally no fewer than 5 parking passes and 4 tents. We have enough of our own real estate that we don't need to co-opt anyone else's.

Perhaps you misunderstand.

Nobody is being "space greedy." It's an issue of a lack of communication. The tents get popped and put on a line with the okay of the parking attendants. Subsequently, Barney Fife rolls through on his armored vehicle and tells a row of people, who have been parked with a micrometer, to "make a hole."

I can call in an airstrike that will fly into your living room window, make a right turn, go down your basement stairs and hit you in the earhole while you're taking a dump. Rutgers parking attendants can't line up a row of vehicles and communicate said line to the constables.

Let's just say, it's hard for me to understand.

The overwhelming majority of tailgaters are well behaved and obey the social norms. But there have been times when somebody in the row ahead of me that is setting up behind their rig sprawls all the way into the space where I have been forced to set up in front of my truck. I know Barney Fife is coming eventually so when I ask him to yield a little space so we can also raise our canopy while leaving a lane for the scooter patrol I get a "We were here first" attitude. Again very rare and I'll presume from someone not familiar with our tribal customs, but it does happen.

Since the '80s I have taught my passengers (and kids) to open the door as soon as we park or you're not going to be able to get out of the car.

+1, my responses exactly.

I think that most of us have a common understanding here, so there's no need for over-generalization or further inflammatory posts. It is clearly not acceptable for 100+ person student/frat parties to be falling-over drunk, fighting with rivals and disrupting neighboring tailgates, nor do the students find it acceptable to be corralled into a small 'party' area by the Busch gym where alcohol is flat-out not allowed. It is additionally not acceptable for Fred and Barney sheriff to Scandinavian flick their ATV's through tailgate areas full of people and question the motives of every tailgater who looks younger than 30.

I, as well as several other posters, have suggested what could be workable alternatives to the former that would keep high-paying Blue/Yellow/Scarlet/Green lot happy, while allowing students to have their fun and continue attending as many games as possible in large numbers...
I agree with the statements here and would add one more issue/suggestion. You are forced to park in a certain space based upon the time you arrive. I know that the first row is traditionally the party row in Blue, so why can't we fill the lots from two ends and give people a choice? Perhaps tell the people who want to have big parties to turn right when they pull in and start filling in behind the Soccer field, and let the regular size tailgates start lining up in row one, or something that gives you a choice.

Again, something that looked great on paper but in reality is not the right spot for the reasons in bold.

I actually think this was a great idea and should've been kept. If people were peeing in bushes because of lack of porta johns, why weren't porta johns put there? If it started to get out of control, have cops in the surrounding area take care of the people that are making it out of control. Not a difficult thing to monitor and gave students and regular tailgaters the separation they wanted.

actually, people who don't donate enough park in light blue and tan or at the RAC. The Blue Lot is filled with people who donate plenty.. but thanks for your two cents.
The blue lot is filled with students that not only do not donate, but they don't even
pay for the parking. It is payed for fraternity alumni and other organizations.

For what you want it to be it is still too close to the houses.

Yes, a good idea. Just a bad location,

They did have the area to the right roped-off when I arrived.
What did they use that space for? I did n't look over there later on.

And that layout (even without the barbed wire) is such an obvious solution, I can't figure out why it hasn't been implemented.

Traditionally that section of the Blue lot is for late-arriving overflow. I've never gotten up there close to game time, but I know that for the really big games it represents the last of the capacity.

For what it's worth, this was the very graphic that I sent to Julie's team a year ago (barbed wire optional) and they chose instead to set up the area adjacent to Werblin. I can only assume that there was more going on behind the scenes than was visible to us - I know, for example, that prior to the Werblin area being implemented, they had at least one meeting with student & Greek representatives and laid down the law with regard to the big parking lot parties.

well, this past weekend there were no students. Our group of 5 cars and 4 tents arrived at 7am to set up. We were directed exactly where to park by the parking attendants. When we set up our tent they asked us to move it back about a foot. which we happily did.

fast forward to 9:30am. the lot is now filled to probably rows 9 or 10. row 2 has been set up practically in our tent. Moses on his ATV comes along, spreads his arms and commands us to move our tent.

so, to Hudson's point, why are we being asked to move our stuff multiple times when we are playing by the rules? RPD does not talk to Athletics. Athletics tells the parking guys to do something and by the time Moses comes along the parking guys are a half mile back in the stadium.

I sent my letter to Athletics with photos. The letter was shared with the leadership team for Football. The senior Assoc. AD will be conversing with the cops and the parking attendants. Hopefully Saturday is a better situation.

Thanks Mrs Screw for being our Blue lot advocate. You know there are problems when the ultra agressive MCSD are hassling even more "mature" tailgaters. Their "do it because I say so" mantra is annoying at best and borderline harassment at its worst.

Where you the group to the left of us (facing the stadium) inquiring how we ran our television set up? We also set up at 7 am in Blue Lot.

Because the students were in an area where visiting teams fans have to walk through to get to the stadium. Most game day parking is in Johnson Park and the Greek Church and the designated area was between those two spots and the stadium. Arky fans didn't have a pleasant experience when they walked through thousands of drunken students that day in 2013. Maybe that spot could be "the spot" for students but they need to fence them in, give them port-o-johns and make sure visiting fans don't walk through there.

My understanding was that, visiting fans aside, most of the complaints came from the homeowners on Golf Links Ave. You pretty much have to give them their due.

we have our own TV set up although Direct TV was not cooperating so well initially.

If I was student and knew cops were looking to bust my chops in the tailgating area I'd stay in my on campus dorm/apartment or house with a bunch of people. Put the game on in the back ground and play beer bong.

Sorry. That is a reality.

How many times do we have to say it?

They do NOT have to be here. There are many close by agencies who would love the OT.

Again, nice idea but the wrong spot I (and others as well) said earlier for the reasons already mentioned.

* And forget the visiting team fans...the last thing we want to do is have Piscataway mad at us too.

Truth. He had to have taken a dive on that one. He's a smart guy and no rational person could have actually believed Navy was gonna rush for over 300.

Navy rushed for 330 on THE Ohio State University 3 weeks prior.

They averaged 365 for the year.

Let's not make RU out to be the 85 Bears.

Blind squirrels and nuts and all that jazz...

I just called my sales ticket rep, and he says the same thing
my last 3 reps have said. I asked how can the students afford blue they have no
priority seating, no consecutive season ticket holdings, and the answer is the
same, they do not pay for the parking, it a gift from fraternities, other organizations.
call yourself, and get the facts., before you tell people they are wrong.

RU is doing everything they can to ruin student tailgates. I was in between two attempted frat tailgates on Saturday in the blue lot and cops swarmed both of them and must've handed out 8 underage drinking tickets. They weren't even being loud and even if they were I would've had no problem with it. It was a part of my college experience and it should be for them as well. The police presence is really a downer these days. I can't stand that they are doing this to the students and is a surefire way to get students to alienate the games entirely. Also historically, the first game of the year is always a good showing for the student section no matter who the opponent so that shouldn't be a valid argument. RU needs to find a designated lot for students and allow them to have their own area where cops won't badger them the whole time. I really wanted to say something to the cops that were giving the students all kinds of headaches.
I agree, things have changed huge in the game day experience. Old days, early 1990's -2004 could walk right up to the gates with open beers and the Popo never bothered anyone. Now, You are under surveillance in the parking lots and you have to go through the BCP from the blue lot to the stadium. Also the students are being harassed. I know the little bastards can be a pain in the ass with their loud music and drunken behavior, but ALL of us were one of those little bastards a few years back. The students add a lot of energy to the game day experience and seeing the co ed's is not bad either! The police presence in the blue over the past few years has just gotten out of control. In all the years, I have been coming to RU games I cannot recall one serious fight or incident that would require police. Maybe two foot patrols is all that is needed. Last year was just ridiculous at the Penn State game when a Popo on a ATV was riding through a packed blue lot with narrow aisles and was expecting everyone to move their tables and hot grills. We are a tolerant group but moving a piping hot weber bar b kettle was a little much to ask. Also the harassment of the students should stop. Many have mentioned it is part of the college experience and unless they are completely out of control they should not be harassed. JMO.

1. The blue lot is not "filled with students". If it was, this thread wouldn't exist.

2. So they get the passes from somebody else. Duh. Everybody knows that. I asked "what's your point" because your post was in argumentative response to @MrsScrew's post that the Blue lot was a high-dollar parking area. You seemed to be trying to suggest that people are parking there for free. They're not. The people who actually bought the parking passes are paying a great deal of money for them.

The 2013 season was phenomenal for student tailgates. Students tailgated next to the stadium on what is technically the green lot grass. That should be the designated students tailgate area. Long live tailgates
