Whoever wins the national championship

Would not have had an opportunity to win without the 12 team playoff. I could be wrong but I'm not sure any of the current final 4 would have made the 4 team playoff. Maybe Texas or Ohio state would have gotten in but that doesn't fit in my narrative lol.
Texas and PSU would have been in since they were ranked in the top 4. OSU (who looks like the favorite since the playoffs started) and ND would've been left out being ranked 5 and 6.

This year will produce a 3rd active a coach with a title as none of the current coaches have won a title.

If Ohio State wins it all, it would be so Ohio State for them to fire him for losing to Michigan.

Could Boise have stolen a spot as highest rank mid tier conference member? Or how did that work? Either way this 12 team playoff has given more teams an opportunity to win a national championship. Rutgers really has a legitimate chance to get there one day. Before the playoff idk if it would've been possible for Rutgers to build a roster that could go undefeated or have 1 loss in the big ten.

either way sucks that we have to choose between ND and PSU tonight. two teams RU fans hate . i have to decide who i hate less and root for them.

I don't hate ND, it will be easy for me to root for them tonight.
Tonight is tough. I grew up a huge ND fan when I was younger. Started to hate them as RU got better and competed in the Big East. I know a lot of PSU grads (including my wife) and they always turned me off due to their cult following. Will probably quietly root for ND since Freeman seems like a good guy. And Howard Cross Jr played on my son's HS team.

There was no such thing as a G5 rep in the 4 team format, you just had to be ranked in the top 4. Boise would’ve had to be undefeated and have quite a few things go their way to make the playoff in a 4 team format, just like Cincy that one year.

I actually think in this hypothetical they would’ve had those things go their way this year if they had gone undefeated. They would’ve had a nice Oregon win on the road like Cincy did at ND that year. Also the teams, aside from Oregon with 1 loss, they were competing with for the 4 spots all have 2 losses while Boise would’ve been undefeated, again just like Cincy that year.

Even if they change the format (up in the air atm) in 2026, teams from the G5 will most likely have a representative in the playoffs.

Interesting stuff..so in a 4 team format this year most likely would have been 1.oregon 2. Georgia 3.Texas 4.PSU ?
The big 12 champ Arizona state would be left out?

They definitely had to expand. This new format is clearly more inclusive..

Yea ASU, Boise, SMU, Clemson would’ve been left out from the non P2 schools.

OSU who is looking like a powerhouse atm would’ve been left out too.

12 (or 14 if they expand in 2026) teams ensures all the teams in a given year who have a realistic shot at the championship are in plus it gives opportunity for others down the totem pole a shot at some notable achievements as well. The regular season has so many more meaningful games too, especially at the end of the year.

Won't say I hated State Penn when I moved to Central PA years ago, maybe a hardy dislike. But I have come to root for them on occasion ( work with former players, who I like). So I guess tonight I will root for them tonight,

I’m looking forward to the semifinals, have four traditional big names in college footbalI who haven’t been there that frequently over the last decade. I imagine the tv ratings will be very good if the games are close. The PSU/ND looks like an old school, tough, defensive game on paper. The OSU/Texas game will probably have more explosive plays despite both having very strong defenses. For those that think defense doesn’t matter that much anymore, all four of the teams are in the the top 8 (out of 130+ teams) in overall defensive stats.

They weren’t in the top 4, so the answer is no.

ugh !

Let’s face it many (before you lose it… not all) root against ND because it’s a Catholic school (the wrong reason). On the flip side most hate the psu win with honor nothing matters more than football cult for the right reasons. This one is easy. GO ND!

agree i just can’t root for PSU especially since we are recruiting against them now. i never thought about the catholic school hate. but you are probably correct i’ve seen a lot of hatred toward christian’s the last few years. christian bashing seems to be ok now for some reason.

It is probably going to 14 in 2026... and 16 in 2031. I guess there is an outside chance at 16 in 2026, but ESPN would need to fork over more money.

No Way Sankey is going to Risk only getting 3 SEC teams in years where they are beating each other up. He wants 4-6 every year.... 14 and 16 teams gets that. Big 10 wants at least 4 Auto Qualifiers, so the 14/16 team format allows for that.

“get there” in who’s lifetime?
When I tell my spouse that I expect to pass away a day before Rutgers kicks off for a national championship, she tells me I’ll be 180 years of age.

Many Michigan fans are prepping for a possible OSU championship by saying that at least it will prevent OSU from firing Ryan Day. Kind of like back in my day when we would cheer when John Cooper was announced at the OSU-UM games 😁

If Meatchicken really wanted to up their troll game, and I'm pretty sure they will, a Meme or post- "

Co-CFP Champions Michigan would like to thank Ryan Day! Go Blue!!" 😂

I like the way thr ND coach comes across whenever I see him. Franklin, not so much. My wife's side of the family has multiple Penn State alumni that I like very much, but I still won't root for them tonight. I will root for Ohio State over Texas tomorrow. I would likely hold my nose and root for PSU over Texas if it comes to that because I am sick of the SEC talk, but I think at least one of them won't make the final.

I'm really ignorant to the different kinds of hate still prevalent in this day and age? Protestants vs. Catholics is happening in America? In 2025? 🙄

Yea they won the game but OState may win the NC. Great way for a fan to look at it.

I doubt OSU gets in. They were 10-2. PSU and Indiana were 11-1. Oregon was 12-0.
