Why The Rutgers Scarlet Knights Are Proving That Greatness Is A Choice (Forbes)

Just a side note.. there is another thread on this board about someone looking for six sigma certification and if it will help and others are saying that six sigma is pretty much a waste and it is dead in many places.

This is the sort of thing I was hinting at. It is big business for the consulting crowd to come up with new "solutions" and to sell management on the "problems" the solutions address. And to give management reasons to consolidate power behind those that will preach the new religion. The manager-followers win.. the consulting religion and its high priests win.. but do the stockholders and employees and customers win?

I first began thinking about stuff like this wan B-schools were pumping out people to preach "planned obsolescence". I also wonder when planned obsolescence will find its way back into favor.

Scientology tells its members that they have to get rid of (or disconnect from) all the people in their lives who would help them resist Scientology... they call these people "Supressives".

There is much cult-like practices among the management consulting crowds... and a fair amount of propaganda practices as well. Redefining all the language an organization uses is an example. Blaming regular employees for failures instead of the strategies outlined by the management consultants is a no-brainer for them.

I just cannot get my head around how getting rid of Jason Baum was a good thing for the organization. For Julie.. maybe. If she follows the strategies laid out in the story, she'll have more power and complete control of her organization. But can she steer the boat? Where is she taking it?

The Big Ten deal was done before she got here. Those revenues were on the way before she got here. Other than modling the organization to respond to her whip, what else does she bring Rutgers?
Yup!

Thanks, that's nice of you to say. I'll send you a note to see if there's something I could offer that you and your class would truly be interested in (I have a day job, so I don't "need" to do this, but I find doing things like this to be fun - have done a few lectures at RU over the years on chem eng'g topics, but never anything on org/mgmt stuff).

@ScarletRugby - started a "conversation" with you about 2 weeks ago (hadn't done one of those before), but haven't heard back yet. Just pinging you in case you haven't seen it...
