If that is your main point, you're using a poor example to support it. The mechanism for partial qualifiers is different than a sophomore being ruled ineligible as a junior.
Eddie Jordan's basketball program is in a much different place than the football program. EJ doesn't have a choice, as it appears those two kids can play, and he needs B10 quality bodies.
Since Prop 48 was done away with, the only mechanism to take partial qualifiers is to let them redshirt and get their grades in order. They count against your scholarship limit. It's a trade-off that basketball programs make.
This is a totally different situation. Presumably, Barnwell is not sufficiently progressing towards the degree.
I have no opinion if he'll remain in school or not. But I've heard enough of the story surrounding his case that I would be shocked if he remained on scholarship.
