WITH TEXAS EXPECTED TO MOVE ON FROM CHARLIE STRONG STAGE IS SET FOR ROBUST TURN ON COACHING CAROUSEL

From the article under USC:

There's no obvious favorites for this job, as names like Kelly, Ohio State assistant Greg Schiano (he interviewed last year) and Utah coach Kyle Whittingham would emerge.

Thats interesting.

We just need a few NFL teams to tank so they throw ungodly money at DBag from Mich.

My buddy was right, had Long on his short list of coaches he didn't want to see come to Rutgers, said his teams don't produce up to the level of their talent.

Texas has recruited a whole lot of 4 and 5 star talent over the last several years under both Mack Brown and Strong, yet they've been mediocre.

Considering he cleaned house when he got there, this isn't particularly true. Guy got rid of a lot of players who didn't fit what he was looking for.

Not at you, but LOL at people who think Schiano could sniff the UT job. Some people on here give him way more credit than he deserves. Pretty sure he was a .500 coach who had an invite to the Papa John's Bowl as his biggest achievement.

Don't laugh too hard, he may end up in happy valley.

Schiano interviewed for every single HC job and didn't get any of them.

His good friend Meyer got him the DC job so he could rebuild his rep (see Tampa Bay) so he can get a HC job somewhere.

GS got offered the job because he is a great DC. Do you guys really believe a coach at that level is offering one of the top positions on the staff because he wants to do him a solid?

He also hired him because he's a very good DC, and he needed to replace Ash.

Their roster has a shit-ton of young, very talented kids, who fit what Strong wants. IIRC there was a ton of attrition when he was hired, as well, which we all know isn't good for ANY program.

I'd take Schiano as A DC any day of the week.

Schiano would be a great pro DC IMHO. Isn't the boss, doesn't have to worry about recruiting or being a micro-manager, just do his thing. The ONLY problem is - and maybe this changes or is changing under Meyer - can get keep his ego in check. I've always said I wouldn't mind him back here some day IF he got experience elsewhere and matured, due to this issue, just felt that last December was way too soon.

.500 coach. Do you realize how ignorant and dumb you sound?

Right here! I still think the guy can coach.

Record unfortunately proves otherwise. Read a review of OSU game and get back to me. Three years of the same. ND win looking less and less impressive too. Pretty damning.

2012. Rutgers. 9-4. With the idiot Flood but Schiano players

This was Schiano record. In the last 7 season Rutgers went bowling 6 times. I don't think he will be considered for Texas but if Franklin goes, he going to be considered a top candidate for Penn State. There just isn't enough proven winner experience HC in college but Schiano proven he a winning HC in college. Penn State will be lucky to get to 8 wins again.

Schiano destroyed Franklin when he was OC at Kansas State and they had a NFL QB that just defeated Texas. Franklin didn't know what hit him when the QB was sacked so many times.

68-67. Like kjb said, a .500 coach.

As much as you guys keep saying this, it doesn't make it true. PSU isn't hiring Schiano. Doing so would be throwing away any chance at legitimate fund-raising for improvements to Beaver Stadium and other athletic facilities. If/when PSU moves on from Franklin it will find another coach worthy of $4 million+ a season, and Schiano isn't that guy. I will gladly bet donations to THON versus a charity of your choice, with any RU poster who would like to do so, that Schiano is never the head coach at PSU.

No one was laughing when he got the NFL job. His biggest achievement is being a former NFL HC.

Based on that article every historically strong program that's not winning at a high level should fire their head coaches. Just replace college AD and head coaches names with names of pro GMs and head coaches and we're talking about the professionalization of college football. Win big and win big all the time or you're out.

GO RU

I'm not sold on that.

It was almost criminal the way he misused a rare talent like Revis while in TB.

Nice blind hatred. Schiano is simply doing awful at Ohio State isn't he?

Anybody that thinks Meyer "gives" his friends jobs with a team like he's got this year is friggin' insane. Schiano got the job because he's a great DC. Maybe he will be a great head coach somewhere else, maybe not but his record as DC is stellar.

This article was poorly researched and poorly written. It failed to name Kyle Flood as a candidate for any of these vacancies.

I don't think Schiano is a "great" coach but he was offered an NFL job and the Michigan job. I don't think he is a good fit in Texas but he will get a mid to top power 5 job with in 2 years.

Herman will go to UT, Schiano will get a HC job somewhere, and Strong becomes tOSU's new DC.
Strong the new DC? Still trying to figure out why Luke Fickell is still employed. Or better yet why he still has a $1.5 million contract and the co DC title if they keep bringing in new DC's.

I have heard multiple stories why he is still on staff but none make much sense.

I'm calling it now: Charlie Strong to Western Michigan!!!

I am calling it now. Charlie Strong Remains at Texas after he beats Oklahoma again and finishes his season 7-5 or 8-4.
This is all BS, it is 5-6 well placed boosters who are completely sandbagging him. There are other things that can be said as to why he is being sandbagged as well, but I will leave it up to your imagination to figure out what I am talking about.
(Hint: Has nothing to do with the product on the field.)

Isn't that what most big programs do?

Or maybe it's the fact he has gone 6-7, 5-7 and 2-2 and that Mack Brown only had one losing season in 16 years? At Texas!
