Had a goal taken away from us in 1st half of the Iowa game off a set piece & scrum in front of goal that was banged in by Colby, I believe. Soccer ref who made it to the game said that there was no way that it was off side. Never saw Mike O'Neil argue as long & hard. Completely changed the complexion & outcome of the game. In the Penn State game a crystal clear hand ball in the box by PS & a gross pull down of Colby in the box were not never called. Game ends 0-0. We would have tied Ohio State & won title as we had beaten them. We are really good but you can't always beat a good side & the Refs. This kind of hosing happens to us in other sports as well. Think that Pat Hobbs needs to find a way to let the Big know that this is not acceptable & that we're not going to stand for it.

Calls suck when they don't go your way, are great when they do, but the bottom line is the following:

We got 4 points, out of a possible 12, in the 9-day stretch which we played Minny(0), Wiscy(3), Iowa(0) and Nebraska(1). In my humble opinion THAT is why we didn't win the league. All we need were 4 more points in that stretch. UGH.

Anyway, hopefully, the "learning curve" = REGULAR SEASON CONFERENCE TITLE 2018!!!

These were far more than calls not going our way. They were blatant screw jobs, especially with Penn State. Don't know if you realize the club we have, how hard they compete & what an excellent year they have had thus far. I've been to every home game this year & watched all the away games either on TV or the computer. Don't know about yourself. During the Iowa, Nebraska trip many of the girls were under the weather, ie, sick. This is one really tough league. Any of these teams is capable of winning on any given day. Our girls have done a simply outstanding job thus far. They have never once mailed it in & our record shows it. To lay misplaced blame on them for not finishing first is more than uncalled for. They would have finished first if they had gotten a fair shake.

We didn't win the conference because we didn't score
have it your way but what rudad says about the flu weekend in the midwest is true and accurate. Did you question why, vrs iowa, there were 10 non starters playing for serious minute together. The dehydration was really bad.
The weekend killed the standings but took something out of the girls also.

A blanket we didnt score does not give ample explanation to the situation.

I'm not disagreeing about the calls being awful, they were, but bottom line if we're a little older/more experience on O, IMHO, we score more and get more points out of those 4 matches.

You watch them play and see it: they're GREAT in the 1st and 2nd third then, if one of them breaks with the ball into the final 3rd, they freeze, or slow down while deciding what to do, and TEND to take shots that are too hard and go over the net. That is going to change, we're going to score a lot more the next few years, IMHO, and not lose games 1-0 the way we do. We lost 2-1 and 1-0 this year and had 3 - THREE - zero-to-zero ties on the season. UGHHH but they'll grow from it!

yes they overpass, look for too good a shot, they all, as you suggest fire high, hit an incredible amount of goalposts. Can all be better

But we really have no parallel in college soccer. there are 21 freshmen and sophs dominating the minutes played
At the moment there is too much guessing about where players will be and passes go unconnected. So as you suggest when they figure it out a nod, or another silent signal and the connection made as well as the pass.

For next year , if you have not focussed on recruiting note. Emily Harrigan is the first striker we have had as an All American. Amirah was HS player of the year but not selected to the AA game
Mya Daniels , with the state tournament coming up still, is sitting around 40 goals and at her rate should easily pass 50.
Alicia D'aoust is all new york state and has played on our national teams
So help is coming for the offense. For the 2019 class with very limited scholarships available there are two strikers committed.

So perhaps Mike/ meg see it your way.
Quietly Jamie Frank , defense, whom much was expected of came in hurt and redshirted. Mid Ciara Terabasso has not been on the field this month and may be a redshirt also All American Jezlyn is being red shirted. Striker Aolani ( iforgot last name ) appears at games in an ankle to knee cast. Goalie Ferreira red shirted.

So with those 5 and 8 incoming commits there will be only 3 seniors on the team. We are in all likelyhood improving the attack next year and as you say this will be a much more experienced team . This team is set for the forrseeable future, to me anyway. With a chance to , if chemistry takes hold, to field an extremely explosive attack.

But we are on par with the 5 top teams this year and that title , as we are now configured, is certainly not beyond reach

Do you feel that there have been any teams this year that we struggled to compete with, even if the score was close or tied?

I'll repeat the girls were sick on the Iowa, Nebraska trip. Under the circumstances they did extremely well to bounce back & tie a very good Nebraska club after having been robbed at Iowa. And Minnesota is a really tough side. As you're fond of admonishing others--don't turn an excellent achievement into a negative.
