Tess Fisher of Vineland, who verbally committed to Rutgers, just won the NJ state singles title.

Fisher will continue her education and tennis career at Rutgers University next year. She said that she is excited to start a new chapter in college after ending her stellar high school career with a state title.

After a pair of setbacks in the semifinals and a runner-up finish in 2015, Fisher finally reached the pinnacle on Saturday.

The Fighting Clan senior captured the school’s first-ever championship with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Holy Angels’ Ashley Hess in the NJSIAA state singles final at Mercer County Park.

I think it's a very good thing - usually the top NJ girls end up at an Ivy League school or even Michigan (Kate Fahey). Hoping this shows that the new staff is ramping up recruiting efforts. We need six top notch players to have a chance of making noise in the Big Ten.
